    I needed this video today, now I know I don’t need a $300 kit to do this. I have a new video up today showing a repair/modification to an Ed Fong DBJ-1. Thanks again for all your support Chuck! I now have a channel name as well lol, 73 my friend de Gary KC3NHE

    Nice job chuck. To be honest, I've yet to try one of these. I've been using compression fittings exclusively but can see some benefits of these.

    Great video..thank you! I use old-school lead solder on connectors, because it melts at a lower temperature.

    I like to use anti-oxidant compound on the shield area, both on the connector and the crimp rings.

      Jimmy that's awesome , I was going to make that jumper and decided to make a video out of it , glad it helped!

    Makes for an easier job. Not a lot of braid touching the shell however. I have done thousands of F crimp connectors before the compression types and they usually work. Getting good quality connectors that crimp well makes the difference. I’m going to look for a crimp set for RG 8.

    I finally got to watch this one! I have a different stripper from DXE, I don't hate it, but I don't have a better alternative. Coax isn't an easy thing to work with.

    How come you don't push the heat shrink all the way up ? I recently bought a coax crimper and will be
    making some jumpers

    • @KK6USYHamRadioAdventures
      @KK6USYHamRadioAdventures  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I could have pushed up a little farther , but you want space to unscrew the line.

    Y'all ever do a video on doing this on some RG-8X or similar??

  • @Paul_KG

    I've seen videos where people insist you have to put the iron on the center conductor and the wire... Never with just heating the center conductor. Very nice! How do you know when to stop feeding the solder into the canal?

    Can you tell me what heat shrink you used for the 400 coax? looks like a nice fit. Thx

      I think it is Doorman from O'Reilly's and the size that just fits over the connector.

    • @user-ss6zt2mo1l
      @user-ss6zt2mo1l 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Look for Heat Shrink that comes with glue on the inside that binds to the coax to keep out water/contaminants

    the stripping tool went and cut almost 3 ft . th cant get cutting setting right. guess i need some input on this

    • @KK6USYHamRadioAdventures
      @KK6USYHamRadioAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul what I have found is get a good quality strip tool from somewhere like DX Engineering or Ham Radio Outlet hopefully it comes with some instructions. If not they are usually close and you just need to use the adjusting screw to dial it in. Coax can vary in size from brand to brand.

      @@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures all I ever use rg-213. Been thinking about it's Thin coax for the truck and getting to the wanting to be portable. 5-100 not sure. Been out of
      the too long. Radio 991a for. When things get crazy. and gave to leave

    Suggestion. Watch other people's video before you attempt to make your own. You showed exactly what NOT to do to put that PL259 on the coax.
