@@MichiganRocks Well it did some right up to me and didn't spray me. It was nighttime so all I could see was some white fur then I remembered to park people were talkin about skunks so went back and got a flashlight and we all bailed into the camper with our german shepard dog :)
Have you ever used glass beads in tumbling rocks, could you use them instead of the ceramic pellets or plastic pellets ? Sorry for all of the questions but I am just starting tumbling rocks and don't know anything about it except I like the looks of the polished rocks.
I haven't used them, but I suppose you could. The problem would be that they'd wear down really fast because glass is pretty soft compared to most rocks. Ceramic media is very hard compared to the same rocks, so they last a long time.
Question maybe you would know I have some softball to football-sized Petoskey stones that I would like to slice at about a quarter of inch. That's how I have won't cut all the way through any type of wire saw you know of?
I don't know of a wire saw for that, but have you tried rolling the rock as you move it through the blade? You should be able to get twice as much depth of cut that way.
Are you talking about the Kona Dolomite? I get that at Lindberg and Sons quarry in Marquette. However, I was just at Kingsley North and they have some old stuff that was picked up before they started blasting it out, so it doesn't have all the fractures. It also has nice colors. You really have to dig to find nice, dark pinks.
@@MichiganRocks Hi Rob. Thank you for your reply. I am talking about fossil stromatolites. I thought it was a video you made where you went to this particular quarry and picked up a bucket or two of stromatolites near Mackinow City. Maybe it wasn't your video. I apologize if it wasn't. Take care, John
@@johngiorgi4000 I don't think that was my video. I have not found many rocks Near Mackinaw and I would not have picked up stromatolites other than Kona Dolomite. I have picked up a few stromatoporoids, but never more than one or two.

Agate hunting on the North Shore will spoil a person compared to hunting in Michigan's U.P.! On our last trip up there, we found more agates in two days than we found all season on the "south shore"! (The water falls are pretty amazing on the North Shore, too!)

Can’t wait to get to Superior this year and hunt for agates. Can you grind the husk off of an agate? Thanks.
Yes you can grind the husk off.
I live in the Uk and the fact that the water is a lake and not the sea blows my mind ! You can’t sea the other side ..
No, you definitely can't see the other side. The Great Lakes are huge.
Out of curiosity, I looked it up and Lake Superior is over 82,000 sq km in surface area. I live near Lake Michigan and that's just over 58,000 sq km.
I know those beaches. :)
Lucky you. I wish I lived a little closer. Then again, I have some really great beaches near me too.
@@MichiganRocks I almost petted a skunk when I was a kid in the Porcupine Mountains cuz I thought it was a cat. Loved your mineral identification video with the geologists. Thanks.
@@kzbay1685 Pepe le Pew?
@@MichiganRocks Thanks, and I love your show.
They're so tiny! But very cute.
You're forgiven. Just keep hunting. ❤️🏏🎸
They weren't all tiny. I was happy with the size of them.
@@MichiganRocks It wasn't a criticism
I wish you would have shown your whole pile of agates together at the end😊
Sorry, I didn't think of doing that. I did show some of them in the thumbnail.
@@MichiganRocks thanks great idea. Looking to tile a fireplace surround need some 8 square feet
* LOL ~ "Stripy" rock would be called a "Wishing Stone" in Scotland because the stripe goes all the way thru.
I think they're called wishing stones here too, but I prefer stripy.
Hi Rob. Hope you are doing well. Please tell me the name of the quarry where you picked up some Stromatolites in Northern Michigan. Thank you.
@@MichiganRocks OK thank you Rob. Sorry my mistake. Take care, John
Did I miss the final count?
I didn't count. Brett was nice enough to send them all home with me, so I suppose I could count them. I didn't film all of them since he was also making a video. There must have been around 20 including all the small ones.
Ps. Agate Dad is great company 😊
I hoped to get together with Taylor, but his wife was very pregnant that day. She was not pregnant a couple days later.
@@MichiganRocks haha! Gotcha. Next time for sure.
Agate hunting on the North Shore will spoil a person compared to hunting in Michigan's U.P.! On our last trip up there, we found more agates in two days than we found all season on the "south shore"! (The water falls are pretty amazing on the North Shore, too!)
Yep, I'm aware of the risks. It sure was a fun day though.
@@MichiganRocks Rob - you might have meant to reply to a different comment.....I found no risks in hunting for agates in Minnesota, other than getting REALLY spoiled by the quantity!
@@fredh5731 That was the risk I was taking about, being spoiled on such nice agates.
Very Nice!
Just Make Sure you take anything from a Federal Operated Park $280 fine....And Feds will inforce if you are cought. My friend was fined for taking $280 for taking Dead bark off fallen branches of the Federal forest floor.....Wow times have changed 😮
Ok, I'll be careful.

Is the red clay riolite? Enquiring minds want to know eh?
If it's clay, then it's not rhyolite. So, no, the red clay is not rhyolite. There may have been rhyolite on the beach, but I don't remember if there was or not.
have u done any japanese rock hunting or china rock hunting or any india rock hunting high up in other places
No, I have only hunted rocks in the United States, mostly in Michigan.
Chert master you are. Take it home eh?
👍👍👍
That should be called agate beach!
You could have slabbed up that banded chert.
I was trying to pack light. This was only my second stop on a two week trip. The Jeep was pretty packed with camping supplies, so I didn't want to over do it with rocks.
9:03 Would be a really cool rock at the corner of the yard or near a tree - but of course you don’t wanna run into it or have to mow around it. L O L.
That rock was awesome.
Banded genesis I do believe
I'm not sure which rock you're talking about, but do you mean "gneiss" or is there a rock named after the first book of the Bible?
suksekses salam dari indonesia
Dont Take from Federal Land..😮
2:59 "Its a glower, not a shower!" Lol
Is this another video where it's titled agates galore but you only find one microscopic chunk of carnelian?
Did you watch the video?
So happy you visited my state! Not much here that I can find but glad you found some.
I’m moving to NC in a couple months. Plan to take the long way around up thru the UP for rock hunting. May be the last (?) trip I get. Then a stop in Akron to visit family.
Maybe a couple beach recommendations with an inexpensive motel somewhere on the shore? 🥳
Thanks for taking us along ❤😊 I’ll be watching forever.
I'm sorry I missed this message. I don't know how it slipped by. Good luck on your trip!
