Nice first hunt of the year! I had my first rock hunting of the year in February. I went last weekend and hit my favorite spot for agates. It did not disappoint, thanks to a good storm that came thru a few days before I got there. I have finally gotten my grandson trained well as he found a couple of nice agates. I found a few myself over a couple of days that we were there. It was nice not to freeze like I did in February. I even got hit by a wave, and the water didn't feel too bad. Can't wait to see where else you hunt this year.

My boyfriend is from Michigan and we stayed at lake superior for a week at a campground. I had the time of my life finding rocks. We both walked the beach and he was so sweet to take the time every day to help me with my favorite pastime. I love finding rocks that are just unique. If I was there they'd find me months later just shriveled up with rocks all around me and a big pile that I would be clinging to still. So many beautiful rocks. I'd just be drooling and walking in circles. 😂
I was up on Lake Superior yesterday. I left home at 4:30 in the morning and didn't get back home until after midnight. It was a long but really great day.
@@jillvasquez1010 Yes ma'am I'm so easily distracted by unique stones. It's funny though Steve's Mom was the same way. He used to help her up in Michigan and everywhere she would go she was always picking up rocks. So when he and I met he was amazed that I was just as crazy about the stones. Now he just knows how I'm looking down for some stones to take home. Up in Mackinac he actually rented us bikes to haul the box back and forth every time we went to the beach. I love that you are a stonie too. 🫶🏻
And here we go...another day on the rock pile with Rob! 😀 Some great finds today!! I guess if you leave a place alone for a while, the rocks regenerate--sort of a rock restock.

Beautiful day, thanks for taking us along, Rob! That banded chert Is going to be every bit as pretty as that one from your Rocks in Box 21 video, great find!
Great to see you back on a beach again! Let the rock hunting begin! I'm in the western part of wisconsin right on the minnesota border. Last week we had a blizzard with 15 foot drifts blocking roads. This week, it's been 85, 88, 88, and 84 today. tomorrow it's going to be 43! Back to reality. :( Have a safe and Blessed weekend!
Oh my gosh I enjoy hearing your excitement when you get to go rockhounding. I’m planning on going to Michigan this spring and find my very own petoskey and pudding stone. I can hardly wait!
Oh my gosh THANK YOU for pointing out and telling us what Gowganda Tillite is! I found one on my first ever trip to Lake Superior last fall and I couldn’t figure out what it is! It’s probably my favorite stone I found 🙌🏻
Wow! Those larger rocks were gorgeous. I especially liked the pink, black and white one. I thank God too for the marvels of nature. Thank you for all of your hard work that you generously share.
I can't really call this hard work. I spent seven hours on the beach, but I enjoyed every minute of it. The editing isn't quite as much fun, but I don't really mind it either.
Great video 👍 Unbelievable self control being able to leave so many of them behind 😬 It was really cool when you picked up the one rock and then the video cut away to the scene of the same rock cut into slices, I wish you could do that with each rock but show the rock after polishing.
Love love!! Been waiting for this adventure. Finding that banded chert was awesome. I don’t know how you don’t use a wagon on the first hunt of the season, I saw so many! 😂😂 Thanks for letting us tag along ✌️❤️

Beautiful day for the first hunt on Lake Huron. Thanks for taking us along, and for leaving some great specimens for others to find. Hope you’ll show us the big banded chert again after it tumbles.
Hey Rob! 👋 I apologize in advance for another long-winded comment... On the bright side, the TH-cam algorithm will love this one! 😉 Isn't it nice to finally get out and do some fair-weather rock hunting?🌞 I know I sure was excited when it reached almost 80° recently! But then it snowed the very next day...🌨️ You had some great finds! Thanks for sharing them with us! We live in such a beautiful state, with such a diverse variety of stones to admire and collect! I appreciate all things Michigan has to offer more and more each time I'm outside, enjoying nature. I'd like to make a couple of comments about the video, if I may... 1.) That was an amazing piece of granite you found at 7:44! It would have been in my bag very fast! FYI - there is an aluminum oxide based polish (calcined alumina) called #61 Rapid Polish, and it's known for putting an excellent polish on stones that are prone to undercutting. I'd love to see you finally bring home some of that beautiful granite, and polish up a batch with #61 Rapid Polish! Just imagine how thrilled the missus will be when she finally sees some granite in your bucket! If you want to give it a try, I'll be more than happy to send you a few tablespoons (I think it's 1/2 tsp. per 4 pounds of rocks). I owe you a package anyway... 2.) That banded chert at 19:26 is another one I would have taken home to tumble... I've been running chert-like stones (some banded, some not) pretty much non-stop since January, and I've learned just how unpredictable they are. Some stones look beautiful going in, but blah coming out. The reverse is also true... often times, it's the ones you wouldn't hold your breath for, that end up taking your breath away! And yes, that amazing piece of banded chert you found at 27:03 would have made me happy, happy, happy as well! I'm interested to see how it turns out after you're done tumbling it. I had a piece that was very unique, with extremely well defined bands, some of which, due to uneven weathering, actually protruded out of the rock, causing the bands themselves to take on a 3-dimensional look. Unfortunately, by the time it came out of final polish, the bands were barely distinguishable, and it looked just like an average piece of ordinary chert. I tell you this, not to rain on your parade, but just as anecdotal evidence that you can't judge a chert by its cover, good or bad. 😉 3.) I can't believe you walked away from that very unique piece of Unakite at 22:01! Crazy that you picked it up, but didn't even comment on it. Are you losing your love for the Christmas rocks (that's what I call them on account of the red and green)? 4.) I've had some good luck lately tumbling silicified coral. Yes, there tends to be a little undercutting, but if you're willing to accept a small amount of "character," they repay you in spades! With the right polish (Raybrite A and/or Tin Oxide and/or #61 Rapid Polish), they take an amazing shine! They also show some great color variation, with beautiful browns, whites, grays, and even some blues thrown in for good measure (think honeycomb coral with different colors in alternating cells)! I'll DM you a picture of a piece of silicified horn coral that I just took out of final polish. Well, that's all I have for you. It's taken me two days to get this far, so I better just send it before I forget, and/or the content becomes irrelevant. Talk to you later, my friend! Happy tumbles!
Just did my first one Tuesday at Sturgeon Point! Met a few rock hounds along the way who are fans as well. Finally wised up and strapped that five gallon bucket to a hand cart, one more messin' around 😄 , gotta find some more beauties to get the shower walls done!
Wow, the banded chert was incredible. Looking forward to seeing that tumbled ! The temp has hit 80 degrees here in northern Indiana the past few days. All the shrubs and bushes are leafing out and the trees won’t be far behind. Some parts of the yard are ready for the lawn mower.
Now, it is officially spring! Thanks, Rob!! I enjoyed seeing the found rock in the lake, followed by your sawed stone. Seeing what it looked like cut, was a nice addition! Get Nancy out there!! I look forward to your rockhounding adventures, again this year!
First rock hunt, was cooler at Lake Michigan with the off shore breeze. Horn coral, favosites, and death plates. Also a couple of unakite. No petoskey stones. Didn't wear my boots and feet froze in the cold water. So many more rocks where you were. Mostly sand where I was. Thank you for sharing. I can never get enough rock hunts!
Love your channel Rob, lake Huron by us has been pretty muddy because of all the rain we've had, I went yesterday to the lake and it was clear and calm, and I hit the jackpot for Petoskey stones, best day ever finding them, I felt like a kid in a candy store, beautiful stones, it was a great day, and 83° besides 😊 and I think I found a banded chert my very first one.😊
🙋♀️❤ Didn't see much on the way there, but it was a hair raising adventure ! Gorgeous rocks on the way back, I must say! Kyle's heartfelt agate song made me cry! Loved it! Thanks gents!😊
I think that black part was probably a thin, black seam in a larger rock. I'll bet it broke along there because it was weaker. That's my uneducated guess, anyhow.
Excellente!!!! Outstanding!!!! I was waiting to see if you were going to throw that #1 Rock you found, back into the water!!! My heart was beeping fast!!! Thank You for taking that rock home with you!!! You explaining why you don't take some of those beautiful rocks home with you, helped me understand better of why you weren't taking them home with you!! Great Video!!!!! 🤗♥️🙏🏼
Good to see you back on your and mine favourite beach again finding gorgeous rocks for us to enjoy ! That banded churt is so beautiful and I can’t wait to see it after it’s tumbled 🥰
Rob, I couldn't agree with you more when you said how beautiful it is here in Michigan! We are so lucky to live in this unique and beautiful state! I always baffled by people who say they don't like Michigan and usually speak up and tell them they should really try to get around it and actually SEE Michigan, EXPERIENCE Michigan. As an avid snowmobiler, trail rider, camper, hiker and rockhounder, I have been privileged to see it in all seasons and like you, count myself among the lucky ones. Thank you for sharing your adventures! I love'em!
I think it's a case of the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. You're right about getting out and seeing it. If you just sit around and feel sorry for yourself, you're not going to be happy anywhere.
"As always, if you see something you like, just yell out!" I can't tell you how many times I've done just that...too funny!😂😂 Looks like you had a great first day out!👍🏻👏😎
Thanks for the first beach walk/ hunt of the season, always great videos. Love the orange and green rock, I was yelling for you it bring home, haha. Thanks!
Rock hunt? you mean treasure hunt!! ❤ I've been bringing home rocks since the age of 3. I'd love to fly across the Atlantic one day and come to Michigan to go treasure hunting 😇 Best wishes from the Netherlands
Any good rocks in your neck of the woods? We do have some great stuff here, but I'm always interested in what can be found in other parts of the world.
0:40 as a former Michigan resident and avid camper, I would say the most beautiful rocks I found were while camping at muskallonge State Park in the up. Lots of agates!
There is no one I’d rather go rock hunting with than you, Rob. Great finds. The way you show us the rocks as you go along is almost like we are with you. Please show us those rocks when you finish with them- though that banded chert will take a while like the last few have that you prepped. Thank you!
@@MichiganRocks Don't I know it! I have a batch of banded chert from Norwood that's taking forever. You mentioned a stone "meta arkos"? How do you spell that? I find them regularly down state and never knew what they were called.
@@JonathonMerrick I never knew either until last summer. you spelled correctly. here's where learned that one: th-cam.com/video/F_t4LC13utM/w-d-xo.html
That petoskey stone with the silica, and that very pink granite, would have both joined my collection, as is….🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 Oh, how I wish I could rockhound that beach….!!! We don’t have much here in western Pennsylvania…..
I haven't had good luck tumbling either of those which is why they stayed behind. At one point in my rock hunting past, they would have come home with me too.
Very cool video (thanks!!!) lovely stones and great tumbling projects. Here is an idea regarding the really lovely mudstones - get a good one, polsh it as much as you can - and once dry and clean give it a very thin coat of slow curing two component slow curing epoxy (brush some on it) it will give it a wet look and shine. If you find a small stone - you can mail it to me and I will coat it and return it. It will be an interesting test...
I feel like that's cheating. I know it sounds silly, but I like the stone to still be natural stone when I'm done. That's strange because the shape and very smooth texture are anything but natural, but coating it with something is a step too far for me. Of course, I don't mind if you do that to your rocks. Here's the finish I'm able to get on them. It's not terrible. th-cam.com/video/7poV_x1POJ8/w-d-xo.html
I was probably on the east coast of the lake looking at the rocks over here with my son at the same time as you were making this Great video. We had a few beautiful days and then a dusting of snow. I'm enjoying learning what I have been looking at from your identifying the rocks you pick up.
What a beautiful day! And wow, you found some great stuff; that banded chert was pretty spectacular! Gorgeous and that little one after was too! Thanks for sharing!
Normally that little one would have been pretty exciting. It would have been better if I had found them in the reverse order, not that I'm complaining.
So incediable excited to see you back on beach. I love rock hounding, but over past couple years my knees have not been good. Knee replaced this spring n just excited to get to Beach. I am in upper Michigan and have been following you for a few years now. Thank you for explaining fossils and rocks.
It's not back breaking at all. The camera stuff is easy. Editing takes awhile and isn't quite as much fun, but I don't mind it either. I'd much rather make these outside videos than the inside ones. Those are much more work.
Wow awesome, so cool to see you out rock hunting again. I recently went on a dream rock hunting trip with a friend. We went to some of the best beaches in New Zealand. I now know exactly what you mean about being selective about taking stones home. I made a you tube vid of them. Gemstone beach, you would love the place. Love your video 😊😊

3.) I can't believe you walked away from that very unique piece of Unakite at 22:01!
There's no message here. It's blank. I have no idea why.
Just did my first one Tuesday at Sturgeon Point! Met a few rock hounds along the way who are fans as well. Finally wised up and strapped that five gallon bucket to a hand cart, one more messin' around 😄 , gotta find some more beauties to get the shower walls done!
How much of the wall is done?
@@MichiganRocks I'll finish today 👍
All Done!
No leaves here yet, but we had weather in the seventies and just barely eighty too.
Now, it is officially spring! Thanks, Rob!! I enjoyed seeing the found rock in the lake, followed by your sawed stone. Seeing what it looked like cut, was a nice addition! Get Nancy out there!! I look forward to your rockhounding adventures, again this year!
Nancy wanted to go, but was sick that day. I'm sure I'll get her out sometimes this summer.
I was at Lake Superior yesterday and it was awesome up there. Offshore wind there too, so the water was almost perfectly calm.
Thanks just beautiful 🙏❤️
Love your channel Rob, lake Huron by us has been pretty muddy because of all the rain we've had, I went yesterday to the lake and it was clear and calm, and I hit the jackpot for Petoskey stones, best day ever finding them, I felt like a kid in a candy store, beautiful stones, it was a great day, and 83° besides 😊 and I think I found a banded chert my very first one.😊
That's great. Spring is the best time for rock hunting. All the winter wind and ice movement really replenishes things.
Congrats on the banded chert, wow, that's a beauty
I was pretty excited. You might have noticed.
🙋♀️❤ Didn't see much on the way there, but it was a hair raising adventure ! Gorgeous rocks on the way back, I must say! Kyle's heartfelt agate song made me cry! Loved it! Thanks gents!😊
That pink, black and white rock needs some carving tools! Favorite by far.
I'm glad you didn't die or anything while watching this one.
So many unique finds! Beauties indeed.
Good to see you back on your and mine favourite beach again finding gorgeous rocks for us to enjoy ! That banded churt is so beautiful and I can’t wait to see it after it’s tumbled 🥰
We'll be waiting for awhile. Those things take forever. They're very hard.
@@MichiganRocks I know , but I’m sure it’ll be worthed ! 😊
"As always, if you see something you like, just yell out!" I can't tell you how many times I've done just that...too funny!😂😂 Looks like you had a great first day out!👍🏻👏😎
People tell me that they yell at their screens all the time so I figure I may as well acknowledge that.
Thanks for the first beach walk/ hunt of the season, always great videos. Love the orange and green rock, I was yelling for you it bring home, haha. Thanks!
I'm not sure which one was orange and green. It really helps to leave a time stamp when you're commenting on a specific rock.
If I was on the walk with you. I would have 100 pounds of rocks by now. Love rocks
You must be very strong.
Rock hunt? you mean treasure hunt!! ❤
I've been bringing home rocks since the age of 3.
I'd love to fly across the Atlantic one day and come to Michigan to go treasure hunting 😇
Best wishes from the Netherlands
Any good rocks in your neck of the woods? We do have some great stuff here, but I'm always interested in what can be found in other parts of the world.
0:40 as a former Michigan resident and avid camper, I would say the most beautiful rocks I found were while camping at muskallonge State Park in the up. Lots of agates!
I go to that area a lot. Here's a video from just down the road from there that I filmed on April 15: th-cam.com/video/mIqS3Fp6tv4/w-d-xo.html
The water sounds were relaxing on this one. The Petoskey stone was nice. Lots of big, beautiful stones that day.
I sure missed your hunts!
I missed them too! I'm glad the season's back!
Spring is here! Great finds Rob!
Beautiful finds
There is no one I’d rather go rock hunting with than you, Rob. Great finds. The way you show us the rocks as you go along is almost like we are with you. Please show us those rocks when you finish with them- though that banded chert will take a while like the last few have that you prepped. Thank you!
You'll see the banded chert for sure, but it will be awhile like you said.
Woah Rob! What a fantastic banded chert! Can't wait to see that polished up!
I think we'll both have to wait. Those things take forever and I haven't even put it in the tumbler yet.
Good job on finding that banded chert! Can't wait to see that one tumbled! Good video!
These take awhile, so we'll both have to be patient while waiting.
You had me at "fossils*. Good to see you back out in the field.
TFS ❤️🏏🏏
P.S. I have a backyard full of jasper should you want some.
There are plenty of fossils here!
Love the green!
I'm not sure what it is about green rocks, but I love them too.
Geez I love all rocks I can’t not stop when I see rocks. Makes my husband crazy.
He should just go with the flow and learn to like rocks.
I liked the double striped rock. That one will look neat tumbled.
Great video and thanks for gearing us all up for Spring hunting!
I love it that I can learn so much from you!!! Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
I saw the Rock at the 15 min mark!!! I thought I missed it because you continued on but you backed up!😊
My skills are getting better.
Good eye! I went past it on purpose.
I was probably on the east coast of the lake looking at the rocks over here with my son at the same time as you were making this Great video. We had a few beautiful days and then a dusting of snow. I'm enjoying learning what I have been looking at from your identifying the rocks you pick up.
This was on Monday of that week before it got really hot. It was a nice summer, but even shorter than usual.
So cool 🤙🏼 love all different rocks.
So incediable excited to see you back on beach. I love rock hounding, but over past couple years my knees have not been good. Knee replaced this spring n just excited to get to Beach. I am in upper Michigan and have been following you for a few years now. Thank you for explaining fossils and rocks.
Good luck with the new knees, Anne!
Hey, I like when you showed the red rock with Hemitate and then showed it slabbed in your hand. Nice.
I've been trying to do at least something with the rocks I pick up to show some sort of change.
Thanks for the great back--breaking camera work. Really appreciate it.
It's not back breaking at all. The camera stuff is easy. Editing takes awhile and isn't quite as much fun, but I don't mind it either. I'd much rather make these outside videos than the inside ones. Those are much more work.
The rock hunts are baaaaaaaaaack!!! Yipee!!!👏😄
Weeeee!!!
Love green rocks too!
This beach of stone without sand is so cool! Nice video!!
There's nothing much worse than a sandy beach.
