Here's the blotter update:
- I think I've worked out what's going on in Rouge Prive. It is essentially Habit Rouge edt, but presented in the form of an edp (as opposed to what's been sold for years as Habit Rouge edp, which has a markedly different balance from the edt). Somehow, Jelk has managed to maintain the equilibrium of the edt, but she's made it larger, 'broader' and more tenacious. Plus, the patchouli note is sharper and a touch more medicinal. All in all, a triumph. And I hope Guerlain make it a permanent part of the line-up.

Rouge Prive was never released in the US to my knowledge but recently found it on fragrancenet. I'm so happy I found this. Absolutely love this. This a true HR flanker! I also really like the new Parfum aswell. I've always wanted to track down some older ones. Maybe one day.

So so glad they didn't mess with my beloved HR. Absolutely no question that I'll have a bottle. At the rate discontinuations and price increases are happening, it'll likely be sooner than later. Interesting to see how that medicinal quality will manifest on skin. Don't hesitate to do a vid on the L'homme Ideal flanker too!!

Sir Persolaise, what a feast this morning! 2 Guerlains & classic vintage Eau Sauvage. Habit Rouge is my absolute favorite & have an over 40 year history with it. Thank you for your keen insights into Rouge Rouge Prive. Am seeking it out here in the US. & Eau Sauvage always makes me smile whenever I wear it. More thanks for your further insights into the vintage, how lucky a man you are. Will attempt to seek out a sample of the Jasmine upon your & Madam P’s enthusiasm. Now onto to watch the Lutins video. Your best line herein, in my opinion, was "lighter and less encumbered by the past... cooler." These words touched me as a description of how you reacted to this new version of one of your favourites. Great video and I really appreciate the background you provided on the Habit Rouge line. The original EDT has such a gentlemanly scent profile and I'm glad they haven't changed things too much with Rouge Privé. It just keeps wafting long after its been initially sprayed so fantastic sillage here! Glad I added this to the collection! Unfortunately it wasn’t available at terminal 4 at Heathrow. Apparently only available at terminal 5. Makes me wonder which flights leave from terminal 5. Thus it’s still on the list to seek out and smell if possible.
Wonderful new fragrance by Guerlain. Very well done by Ms Jelk. I have been wearing HR EDT and EDP for years. This resembles EDT the most …and I agree with you, there is a eucalyptus presence - and so this reminds me of the late Royal Mayfair from Creed. I really enjoy your reviews. Keep up the great work.

Hello Dariush I owe you for making me discover HR last year ou two years ago, thank you! I love it. Medicinal and pine make me think if Aromatics Elixir by Clinique and Shade by Lush, this is very intriguing! I am very excited to try it, I am sure I will like it. HR is still challenging to wear for me, but same as Shalimar, I love it, they command attention so I'll never stop exploring them!

Habit Rouge is a timeless masterpiece scent, like Caron Pour un Homme, which was good reformulated in the Eau de Toilette Millesime. .
Ah, Pour Un Homme is heavenly too.
Unbelievable! I have been to their Covent Garden boutique TODAY to smell it but, unfortunately, they had no tester!

Really nice fragrance indeed. I bought Habit Rouge Rouge Privé this morning for myself. It can be easily worn by a woman. I was looking for a citrusy fragrance for the spring / summer. I do not know the OG Habit Rouge. However there is something in the DNA (probably the leather notes + bergamot) that reminds me of Cuir de Russie
There’s definitely a leather facet in HR.

I'm really taken with it. It's basically like the HR we know and love, but stronger and, at certain points, sharper.

The medicinal vibe is coming from the leather accord which is similar to Gucci Guilty Absolute. Also Dark Lord by Kilian and purple oud by Dior. A Guerlain rep told me they use oud in their leather accord so that could be it. Personally I am a big fan of this flanker and picked it up yesterday. It’s more modern, with an animalic addition. Perfect summer evening scent.

I just received my decant sample of Rouge Privee and I absolutely can smell what you are talking about with the Leather/Oud. I wore Gucci Absolute last week and it is very much like that, but just a bit lighter with the magic Habit Rouge profile. it’s phenomenal.

Always makes me feel kinda sad to see reviews of „flankers“ or „reformulated“ masterpieces like this one or Heritage… they don‘t seem to (willingly?) manage to come even close to the originals… so i switched to completely different perfume houses (niche) that give me plenty of pleasure and satisfaction without reminding me of the „good old (in this case Guerlain) times“.
But thank you for the effort anyways and for presenting new niche fragrances as well. Very much appreciated!

I’ve been meaning to ask you this. If I were to continue sampling all the classic Guerlain fragrances, I should always go for the vintage version, right? Are the current versions of Habit Rouge, Apres l'Ondee, Vol de Nuit or Heritage up to snuff?
This is a tough question. It goes without saying that the current versions are different. They *have* to be different, for all sorts of reasons. But I think Guerlain have been particularly conscientious about maintaining the character of their classics. I’d say: sample whatever you can. And decide for yourself which you prefer.

Hi Persolaise. Interested in buying the Prive, but the issue I have with the original Habit Rouge would be the limited longevity. Can you tell me if the Prive improves on this?
I have to say I've never had a problem with the longevity of the edt.

I'd say it's pretty good. I don't think it's been messed with for a while.
So this is the masterpiece! Is it a Wasser's creation or somebody else? Do you think that they could get rid of it so easily, like they did for Dress Code? I believe the new version smells better than Shalimar..

Do you think it is still relevant getting the modern edt ? I never smelled the old one (the version you got in the video), i wonder if there's that much difference. To me the current version is too vanillic, i wish there was more leather/oakmoss.
