He's right about character mods. Some are balanced well to where they feel right at home. And then you get mods that add Goku, Ganondorf, and Gurren Lagann. And Ganondorf is just beyond busted. Gurren Lagann basically has access to a screen nuke. And Goku. He's Goku. Fun in their own right, sometimes too much.
I think there's one modded survivor that I really like, and that's Paladin. Other survivors have a hard time comparing to how satisfying it feels to use his kit.
I think he’s the only modded survivor that even feels balanced, and I’m pretty sure that’s just because they’re melee, but gog damn they become OP so fast
Another good modded survivor i've been having fun with lately is Rocket, though I think he is a bit strong, his mobility is very very fun up there with loader I think.
Most of the time I'm not even able to loop my runs because I'm usually only able to play games during the evening and RoR2 runs can take quite a while. Even then, I only decide to attempt a loop if I've got a god run going, and even then still I usually clock out at either stage 8 or mithrix depending on how I'm feeling. I absolutely see the appeal of looping runs, but the majority of the time, the circumstances for me wanting to loop just don't line up for me.
If u haven't u can download the save mod that allows u to save your run to pick up later. It will allow u to play from the start of the current stage u are on. Might not be a perfect fix depending on your schedule, but its something to look at i suppose
I agree with your opinion on mods, but hearing you shortly afterward say that you liked RoR1 makes me think that you would like the mod which adds RoR1 items into to the game. Also I prefer default R to desperado, stacking damage is good, but I prefer getting my cooldowns reset.
He's said earlier that he doesnt think there are really any balanced item mods out there. They all break the games balance in some way so even if he would like it conceptually he wouldnt like it gameplay wise.
@@hunterace4275 which is just factually not true... especially when he complains about certain things being too strong in Vanilla, I just don't get the logic here. bro should just play with the mod that lets you turn off items so he can play his dream game of getting nothing but harpoons
On modded survivors and items: TL;DR, it comes to preference but I think some mods actually do strike a really good balance point. Yeah, a lot of them are generally not very balanced, I'll give you that. But Paladin actually feels pretty balanced (maybe a little strong) to me. Like sure, he is tanky, but he needs to be up close to do any real damage and rewards you for playing well in that way. You are rewarded for playing up close with relatively low mobility and no invincibility frames, all while staying above a health threshold or keeping a barrier up. Fighting Mithrix as Paladin with his base kit is probably one of my favorite things, because you cant run away, you just have to constantly be playing around him and moving as he moves. It feels like a dance almost, especially if you get a hardlight. Sure, he has alt m2s that are ranged, but one still rewards you for being up close (and has a charge time) and the other is just Mithrix shards meant to tickle wisps and stuff (and compliment his monsoon skin). His numbers feel fair, and he has a defined power curve: You are really good early due to good crowd control but fall off late if you cant find items to let you stick on an enemy. Honorable mention to the Henry mod, which isn't the most balanced thing but the sheer variety of loadouts you can form for him make him really fun in multiplayer. From offbrand commando to an ungodly mix of huntress and merc, with everything imbetween. Also, on the items being "power fantasy" heavy. Yeah, they really are. But most people play ROR2 for that sort of crazy power. Even when Hopoo themselves added items for SOTV, some of them end up disturbing balance pretty heavy, like safer spaces (being really good) or harpoon (pretty much just dilutes the green pool IMO). I think generally just adding more items into the pool by itself does a lot more to balance than people think it does, which is why mods that add like 40 items are never gonna be balanced even if the items are all really well designed. The only item mod I really feel fits in to the current game balance is MysticsItems, because the items it adds are all pretty unique in concept without being incredibly gamebreaking. Its a hard line to walk. I think its just a matter of preference. Like, when I started playing eclipse, I made a seperate mod profile with just stuff like autosprint and UI improvements, because eclipse feels better as a raw experience. But for general gameplay and enjoying it with my friends, the extra items and survivors are a way to keep us thinking about new builds (we all play the hell outta the game, one even 100% logbook) or playstyles that can heavily change gameplay, and I think it makes the game more fun.
