You gotta love when once in a while on TH-cam someone actually knows what they are talking about. Thanks fellas
I know, a lot of hair care channels know what they’re talking about for healthy hair, but when it comes to loss it’s literally just “dht bad” because they haven’t ever dealt with hair loss. I don’t blame them - I wouldn’t look into hair loss if I wasn’t incredibly susceptible to it - but it’s risky business not telling them the whole story, because blocking dht reduction A: isn’t going to solve hair loss, and B: if fin doesn’t work, it gets people from finasteride to dutasteride without knowing that if you don’t have the t score of 1000 gorillas you might as well schedule your own breast reduction surgery a year in advance

What you said in the end is so true, A lot of doctors don’t tell you about what you can do to prevent the hair loss, just go straight into making money for themselves
I've been taking 1mg Finasteride daily for around 4.3 years. I'm NW 2 with no crown thinning. Just a receded hairline. For the first 2 years, Finasteride had worked beautifully in preventing further loss. But at 3.5 years of taking Finasteride, I've noticed my hairline thinning ever so slowly once again. So I'm now taking Dutasteride.
I've also been using a high strength Minoxidil for 4.3 years which I still use today.

Have you considered taking Minoxidil?? Remember that although Finasteride can potentially regrow your hair, it is mainly used to “Block” further hair loss. Dutasteride only blocks about 93% DHT and stays in your system for a long time when it reaches a steady state in your blood by taking .5mg per day for
three of four weeks.A single dose of .5mg has a half life of about 2 or 3 days. One .5mg Dutasteride per week
will block about as much DHT as 1mg of finasteride every day.
Is this real?
You recommend Finasteride at 1mg 3 times a week, which is less than the prescribed dosage. What's your recommended dosage for Dutasteride?
I have the same question

@The Hair Loss Show
@CVK 1mg a day which is 7 mg a week. However, these doctors have 25 years of experience and suggest 3 times a week 1 mg or splitting a 5mg tablet in 4 and take three of those.
CVK No, 1mg 3 times/week or 0.5 everyday of propecia is just as effective as using 1mg everyday
Great video. So clear and concise. Do you have any opinions on topical dutasteride?
What I think is the most important is food. If you eat garbage, no medication will help. You need nutrients to make you and your hair healthy. Why we bald is because our ancestors started eating food that isn't designed for humans like grains. Native americans ate buffalo and based on animal fat and they had amazing hair and were tall.
Can you talk about the effect of finasteride on neurosteroids like allopregnanolone and the use of finasteride in people with existing depression? Is it safe to use finasteride whilst being treated for depression with an SSRI or SNRI antidepressant (given the sexual dysfunction side effects of such medications)? This information would benefit a lot of people as depression is a very common illness. Do you have any patients who use finasteride who also take antidepressant medication? Do they tend to experience more side effects?
Would love to hear an answer for that, too.
Ive been on finastride for about a month and Sertaline (anti depression drug) for about a year and I have lost the ability to ejaculate I can still get hard and sexually aroused but can't cum
Austin Sajdowitz dude you should try stopping either 1 and see which is the root of the problem. You try stopping the anti depressant drug first or switching into another one. If the problem still persist, finasteride may be the cause of the problem
Austin Sajdowitz You should speak to your doctor about this. If it is the SSRI causing the problems, they can change your medication to something like bupropion or agomelatine. Did the symptoms begin with the addition of finasteride, or did they begin when you started sertraline?
Or try lowering the does of finasteride to maybe a few times a week

What’s your thoughts about dutasteride and finasteride and the PSA blood test for prostate cancer? I have read that both drugs can make the PSA test slightly more accurate. I have also read that there is a slight possibility for an increased risk in a more aggressive cancer in the prostate. I have been on 1mg finasteride for several years to maintain my hair level and thinking about switching to dutasteride.

My friend, Avodart works better for hair loss, but you can't just ask these men, you've got to ask your doctor. If they reply to you, they can get in trouble if you have a bad reaction.
update please
I'd be careful taking fin or dut at such a young age. Dht is an important hormone for the development of male characteristics and vitality.
is it normal to not experience any sheds with finasteride but lots with dutasteride 11 weeks with dutasteride addition first 6-8 weeks lots of shedding it has decreased lots, looks worse than baseline lots,
i have long hair but shedding lots of short hairs like 3-6 inches vs 12-18 the rest, are they improving or is it to late for those hairs,
i am thinking 3-6 months needed for every new medications so i'll wait for the 6 months mark for dutasteride addition, then asses if i want low dose oral minoxidil added.
I was about to dump 15mg of Proscar (3x tablets) in Minoxidil until someone told me about the filler coating. The question that I would have: when adding 15mg of Finasteride, wouldn't I create some form of metastable super-saturated solution, which - under certain circumstances - might destabilize?
May crushing pills and then adding all of it with fillers into Minoxidil solution cause some problems? One of my biggest concerns are the fillers. Might they interact with the Minoxidil molecules? Might they destabilize the solution? Might they form chemical complexes with Minoxidil?
My advice is do not mix finasteride with minoxidil. Everyone would be using finasteride topically if it worked that way. You've got several things to consider, including if finasteride itself is even soluble in the minoxidil-based solution, and even if it is, if has any topical effect whatsoever. If you should experience results, I'd wager it's from the finasteride being absorbed into your system, that I gather you're not in favor of taking. I suggest you try Nizoral 2% shampoo three times a week alongside your minoxidil. Look it up, there's evidence to show it helps.
Hey, you might want to check out that etude ijpc.com/Abstracts/Abstract.cfm?ABS=4749 apparently there is no bad interaction between the molecules in a topical usage :
_The results from this study suggest that the new hair-loss topical solution may be considered a safe and effective treatment option in male AGA patients._
@@randomfullywonderful People are using finasteride this way and it does work. Also, nizoral does very little. Fine to use as a further treatment but using it on its own or instead of fin or min isnt recommended.
People are using fin this way. Search on TH-cam. Fillers are just that - excess materials and they dissolve quite well in both minoxidil and serioxyl.
Thanks guys for your time and great advice on all your channels.
Anyone else wondering Finasteride vs Minoxodil? With all of Minoxodil's steps and daily effort, it seems if you are at an early stage of NW 1- 3 that Fin would just be easier and that the side effects of Fin are often overcome with continued treatment or decreased dosages.
Finasteride is more powerful and long term but both put together are ideal.
Hi,
Which is best finasteride 1 mg daily or dutastaride 0.5 mg weekly twice? Iam 40 years male.Bald head started already
I'm 34 and have been on a finasteride / minoxidil combo since I was about 19 or so. Tons of baldness on both sides of my family, and I'm fairly confident that it's been my usage of these products that have helped me preemptively retain my full head of hair. That being said, I have noticed gradual decaying of certain gains (whereas in previous years this had not been the case). I'll probably always be the harshest judge of my own appearance, but objectively I do take comfort knowing that I'm doing all I can.
I have generally spoken directly to my primary care provider about finasteride, although I've also spoken to a dermatologist in the past. Any recommendations on the type of physician that would know most about the effects of dutasteride?
Bro may i know your finasteride daily doseage please
@@Abhi-xy9ew Just 1 mg daily. Bear in mind I began using both finasteride & minoxidil when my head of hair was probably 95% in tact (due, in part, to my own proactive anxiety and vanity). Let me also clarify that in the past couple of years, I have started to see somewhat gradually diminishing effectiveness -- the hair at the corners of my hairline has begun to noticeably recede, and I tend to see more shedding than I'd like. I always want to use products that are marked and regulated as safe, so in addition to specialty shampoo, I am researching things like dutasteride & nanoxidil.
@@eliasb22 It's probably you getting older so don't panic too much, if it has been working out good for you all these years then continue. Have you thought of starting dutasteride? It has been officially used for mpb in South Korea and Japan and off label worldwide.
@@redlightning9130 Thanks for the reply -- much appreciated. That is a good point. While I am satisfied with how these products have helped me, I am certain that aging plays a part for sure. As for dutasteride, I have watched some of this channel's videos on it, and am open to it considering its usage in other countries. Not sure how my physician will feel about it, but worth looking into for sure! Thanks :)
Oh, also -- I made a big switch. After years of "minoxidil foam in the front and back," I increasingly felt curious about nanoxidil's claims about it being beneficial for both front & back scalp usage (whereas minoxidil is apparently only good on the back, despite my using it in all areas). So, I took the plunge and ordered some nanoxidil. For the past month, I have been taking a blended approach of "nanoxidil in the front; minoxidil in the back."
Other than the routine taking a few minutes longer, I've been satisfied thus far. No side effects (aside from some scalp initial "tingling" which dissipates after a minute or two). TBH I was not crazy about the "studies" that have purportedly been done for nanoxidil -- the "journal articles" seem to be a bit more like glorified MS Word documents, and there don't appear to be that many, at least not available to me. That being said, the product is well reviewed and discussed enough that I decided to give it a try. I think I've generally noticed less shedding, but will continue to evaluate it over the next two months as well. Right now, I am leaning towards continuing it, and will remain patient, open, and optimistic :)
Hola amigo Una pregunta.

I wonder what would happen if a person stops or reduces their normal intake or dosage of these medicines ??
I had more frontal thinning after 1 year on dutasteride as well as in the crown. I had to go back to finasteride. I attempted the switch 2 times with the same results. When I go back to fin, it thickens in the front and regrows hair in my temple region. If you don't get results on Dut 6 months to 1 year I'd be skeptical. Maybe our genetics just aren't meant for it? IDK. Finasteride works for me in that time frame.

Great video, guys. Thank you for the info!
How much dosage you guys recommended for dutasteride?
Well thanks for asking Yayat. Well that’s not a straightforward answer as all patients are different in terms of aggressiveness of hair loss. Most patients will be fine with only Finasteride. For those few patients (the 14%) with more aggressive hair loss non responsive to Finasteride we would consider Dutasteride. Now I prefer to titrate the dose. Now this means I would prefer to start low and progress the dose from there depending on the hair loss response we can achieve. It may be the case that only 1 capsule per week is all that’s required to bring back control of the hair loss. If it is not we can add a further dose per week and reassess accordingly. I hope I have been able to answer your question and wish you all the best. Dr Wilkie.

All those videos are very informative and it is great that someone can easily take all the info from one source, i dn know whose idea is this, but ur podcasts rock)) I am just curios, stopping one and starting another brand - does it harm the results? let's say - stopping Propecia and starting fin.?
The drug is the same. Certainly after it came off patent. It shouldn't be a problem. Thank you for your kind words. Glad you are enjoying the content. Just finished filming a few more episodes. Will be uploading those soon.
I wish I had this podcast 3 or 4 years ago lol. Appreciate the knowledge now anyway, I’m putting it to good use.
Don't beat yourself up. It's always easy to look back in retrospect. Hair loss is a 'journey'. All the best.
wonderful information- THANK YOU SO MUCH. God Bless you!!
Durasteride have half life 5weeks can I take it once weekly?
yes you can
No. It won't build up in your system at that dose. Take it regular
These docs do a very good job of explaining the nuances of which patient type makes sense to move over. There are side effects and they both have them. There may be options and these guys even look at 1x fin week w 1x dut wk just in case the results are good w/ o side effects. That's intuitively good medicine.
Please reply.....
Dutasteride stay for a long time in body. So is it ok to take dutasteride once in a month or twice. To reduce the side effects.
depends on what you mean by "ok"
Hi, is mesotherapy an effective treatment for hairloss?
I use dutasteride for 2 months and 10 days plus the wires continue to miniaturize very fast, is it too early for the medicine to take effect? should I include minoxidil in the regimen? hug from brazil 🇧🇷
They say results begin between 4 and 6 months so just wait a couple more months
I've been using Dutasteride 0.5 mg d and topical Minoxidil 5 percent everyday for the past 4 months. I have been loosing around 50 hairs everyday though. I was previously on 1 mg Finasteride everyday for 2 years. I haven't noticed any difference after switching from Finasteride. Not sure what to do here. My anxiety is getting worse cause of this. Should I consider using Topical Finasteride? Any advise would be appreciated
Hey bro...any update about your hair?
update
Hey Drs, if I suffer side effects from your advised 3x 1mg per week, is it better for me to go down to 2mg per week? And if so, would I still get the benefits of finasteride enough to suppress dht levels to stop further hairloss? Or is not even worth taking it if I’m only going to take 2mg? Thanks for the advice docs, you guys are awesome !
How are you doing
I’ve read that Dutasteride MW is 528 Dalton and generally MW for skin absorbtion is below 500 Dalton.
Can we use topical Dutasteride and is it efficient considering MW >500 Da?
Hey doctor. I've heard that Dutasteride has a half life of 5 weeks. What if someone can take it once a month and can save their hair as a stand alone treatment?
@@tagada7 what is better
Fin every day at 1.25 mg
Or fin every day at 1.25 and one Dut per week ??
Will be there any difference or should someone stay at 7x fin per week ?
@@tagada7 What about the free T in the scalp that raises from Dutasteride
In studies it has been shown that it raises as much as double the Testosterone in the scalp than Finasteride ? I know that T is nowhere near as harmful to the hair follicle like DHT but it can still cause some hair loss. In my country ( Greece ) we do not have a topical anti androgen like Ru or Cb and we cannot find any of them. The only one is the ketoconazole shampoo which by the way is awesome.
Hello dr vikram jayaprakash, can you tell me the correct dosage of dutasteride 0.5 mg, if someone is completely on Dutasteride, do I have to take it daily or alternate days dosage will also work? Please answer, its the most common doubt!
Take everyday so it builds up in your system
@@rihansa199 my doctor prescribed me for M, W, F
@@viratkohli-jr6md yea that's enough. How's it going for you?
@@viratkohli-jr6md you began all days?
Hello Doctor, I have been using Finasteride for almost 2 years now. I had very little benefit and my hair has been falling rapidly. I have also restarted using Minoxidil. Now I've started using Dutasteride daily. Is this a good way to move forward?
Dutastreide having side effects of sexual problems know ???
How about your hair naw ?
Can we get an update on your hair loss journey, I'm currently on the same boat you were
Just looked up side effects for dutasteride (avodart). They’re significant. If you’re younger, it could ruin your libido. Older men must be concerned with potential heart issues such as palpitations and prostrate cancer. Nothing comes without side effects. Lowest dosages should be agreed upon initially. But the fact remains that dutasteride blocks both forms of 5-alpha reductase. You have to take something post surgery to prevent further loss. If it doesn’t have sides, I’d take it.
The side effects of dutasteride are pretty much the same as finasteride so it’s still safe
@@tomberver1075Safe for the most part but no there is definitely still risk of side effects. I've taken both fin and dut and had side effects on dut
Hi doctor. I'm currently taking finasteride 3 times a week & dutasteride once a week.. can i lower the dose of finasteride to 2 times a week & maintaining dutasteride once a week?
I'm not a doctor, so this is my two cents, just take it properly, and if your doctor aren't okay with that, I'd be surprised,. It's be like me with my out of control blood pressure that a maximum dose of lisinopril isn't working for, now if he saying "here, take this lisinopril three times a week and one or two olmesartan on the weekends, I'd think he's lost his mind, and I'd say could you give me my lisinopril but with diltiazem, BOTH of which I'd take daily. You're playing a game where you don't know the outcome. When you combine the two drugs, you increase your chance of side effects, because they're different substances, but not different classes of drugs, they work the same way, so that's one thing. Another is simply popping a Propecia everyday would be more reliable and effective in my non-medical opinion which you should not take. Now, if you find taking that amount normally isn't working for you, once again, you could just ask your doctor for the standard dose of Avodart. I've nread about people doing the opposite of you, they take 2.5 mg or 5 pills of Avodart a day, obviously they're importing illegally from India, but these are otherwise educated people. It started out okay for them, then they got these weird rashers after about a month that wouldn't go away for yet many more months. Don't experiment with drugs, always a bad long-term solution.
Does taking zinc while on Finasteride lower the risk of side effects related to estrogen like Gyno and if I took it with Fin , will it lower the efficiancy of Fin and wont give the Fin the best results?!
Taking the supplement dim will help from getting gyno. The docs' are not good at responding. Thought I would help mate.
What about topical finastride??????
This very recent study published in January 2020 suggests topical finasteride is a safe and effective medication for hair-loss, although not so effective as you'd expect with oral form.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/32023218
Unfortunately you can't read the whole process as it is for the moment under license and you'd have to buy it, but I invite you to search for others studies on pubmed about topical usage. Every of those I encountered showed positive results.
Thank you for this. I am taking Finasteride and using minoxidil as a Keeps Ambassador. I’m regrowing my hair. I would like to start the dutasteride once a week. I think this will be good. I’m 32 and I want to keep my hair for a while.
Hi, How is the results.
And I red in Google dutasteride is one of main side effect is decrease sex and sperm counf also..is it correct?
How much hair shedding is expected before hair grows back thicker and does this happen in the first few months. Also, has there been cases where the hair sheds, but it never grows back thicker. That's my only concern.
Good question. I’m worried I’m balding because both my brothers are. Idk what to do. I don’t want to wait too long until it’s noticeable. Hair loss is the worst thing.
i just 21. Can i take dutasteride 0.5mg per day with minoxidil5% plz reply me sir.
