    Great units and their customer service is top notch. My house got hit by lightning (copper bell tower) and it blew a fuse inside the charger unit. I couldn't find anywhere what the fuse size was, customer service helped right away and offered to send a replacement fuse. Servicing the unit was very easy.

    The page for the Mini should be updated with the adapters it comes with. From the manual:
    14-50 natively.
    Adapters for:
    5-15 (aka standard household)
    14-30 (modern 4 wire dryer with neutral)
    TT-30 (Travel trailer 30 amp. The manual says 240V but these are 120V)
    6-50 (like a 14-50 without neutral)

    I will be buying a Smart 40 from Grizzl-e, once I'm pull my permit. I see they offer both 6-50 and 14-50 plugs. Since so many people have these hardwired why not save some money and offer the 40 amp units with an option for no plug. Even if you don't offer a credit for the plug delete (its already a great price) the cost of the plug can go on their bottom line.

    I've been using the Grizzl-E Duo for the last two years. Excellent unit, rugged, good price. Easily keeps two EVs charged and I bet we could keep four going by alternating every other day. That's all from a very economical, single NEMA 14-50 outlet.
    80 amps is expensive to set up, but for a rural destination or fleet use it could be ideal. Too powerful for typical home panels though.

    Having a 80Amp Wall Connector is a great idea, Super off Peak rates are only for 6 hrs and with my Model Y if I'm below 10% it takes over 6 hrs on Tesla's 48Amp Wall Connector. However the real issue is that BEV manufacturers have 80Amp AC charger capability on board the vehicle. Would love it Tom if you would pass this on to any EV manufacturers that you have contact with to bring this to their vehicles in the near future.

    The GrizzlE Mini TT-30 adapter is shown as a 208-240V adapter, but TT-30 is a 30A 120V circuit. Usually these adapters have a resistor that signals to the EVSE the voltage and the max current. TT receptacles are wired with L1 and N, so either United Chargers engineered their TT adapter/EVSE wrong or they need some better copy editors and tech writers. IDK, maybe I'm missing something.

    Most people won't have a panel to support an 80 AMP EVSE and if they want one the price to upgrade your service can be astronomical (+$5000). It would be nice to have that charger as a standard but that's pretty much wishful thinking. Not many vehicles can take advantage of it! The bright side is if you purchase that unit and throttle it down the settings and still be future proof, I guess? The price is right for sure!

    • @StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney
      @StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you can throttle it all the way down to 16-amps if necessary and then raise the output in the future when and if you upgrade the electric.

      The specs show the Ultimate 80A supporting 80A, 48A, 40A, 32A, 24A, 16A, where the current classi 40 only supports 32A, 24A, 16A.
      The EV9 can support up to 48A, and getting a 50A breaker into a 200A service home should not be a problem. Not to mention as per the interview the Ultimate 80A will have payment processing and be targeting small commercial installations as well.

    • @charliesullivan4304
      @charliesullivan4304 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@YKSGuy To use 48 A, you need a 60 A circuit (and breaker) per the "125% rule" for continuous loads. If you only have capacity available for a 50 A circuit, you will want to set up for 40 A charging. Or get a charger with automatic load management (Telsa, Wallbox and Emporia have that) to be able to install a 60 A circuit and only run the full 48 A when you aren't using other major loads.

    This is all a big learning curve for so many of us, but if I understand this right, this is more than what you need for say the 2022 Chevy Bolt's 11KW on board charger which requires
    a 60 AMP load in order to charge from zero to 100% full in the 7.5 hours theoretical specs published, but of course your panel in your home has to be upgraded right?
    Is there any harm however in using a unit like this for the 11KW /60 AMP requirements for the 2022 and later Chevy Bolts?

    • @StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney
      @StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is no harm. The vehicle always dictates the upper limit of power it takes in, so you can use a charger that can deliver more power, but the car will only accept the power it's limited to.

      @@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney Thank you I was hoping you would say exactly that, on a almost important unrelated question, I can't get the correct answer to this question, maybe you could look it up more quickly as i'm not a Bolt owner myself yet: Question: ? Is the standard 6 speakers in the non Premier trims, also provided by Bose ?

    • @charliesullivan4304
      @charliesullivan4304 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To get the maximum charging rate on the '22 Bolt you need a 60 A circuit for 48 A charging (or larger). This has an option for a 60 A circuit or a 100 A circuit. Either would give you the same charging rate on the Bolt. Or you could buy a cheaper charger that has the option for a 60 A circuit, but not the 100 A circuit, and you'd get the same charging rate.
      Whether you need your panel upgraded depends on many factors--many people have enough unused capacity available to install that with no upgrade. But even if you don't have the spare capacity, an electrician with the right expertise can install a Wallbox, Emporia, or Tesla charger with a monitoring system that automatically adjusts the charging rate on a minute-by-minute basis according to how much capacity you have available.
