I know I’m late but you people are dumb as fuck
When I was young I thought a snorkel PROVIDED air underwater! IT DOES NOT. It's simply for floating on the surface facedown and breathing through a tube. The bit I don't get is the resurfacing after a dive and you are meant to blow out of the snorkel toiler the water. Problem, you are short of breath! You have been diving for two + minutes! So, most of the time this snorkelling at the surface is defeated by a shortness of breath? You need a clear airway to the mouth GUARANTEED on resurfacing? So, I don't see the point most of the time, you might as well hold your breath? Breathing through a small volume to ratio tube over 8-12" is not relaxing or the correct pressure for the lungs to inflate fully?
Lol same this happened when I went snorkeling 🤿 in Puerto Rico my bf at the time wana go deeper underwater so we did the salty water when all inside our tube and we almost drowned luckily we know how to swim 🏊♀️ we took it off and swam up the surface 😅
You can get a snorkel with a seal valve and keep the snorkel in the mouth. I don't use this. I actually use not the tube snorkel but the snorkels with a drip valve so the water can run out the bottom when you come out the water. I don't actually come out of the water, just surface and then blow out air through the tube, clearing it of water.
Amazing how he stay so long underwater. If it was me, after i pick up the camera, i will fight and struggle my way up in the surface for air like a mad man 😅
So in short you're not using the snorkel in any way *for* diving underwater, you just happen to have one present *while* doing so. Got it.

uberduke what is the point of snorkel if you swim with body under water most of time. When you go up for air it is faster to just breathe normally.

Being relaxed before you dive is good once I stayed under water for 10 mins relaxed till someone thought I was drowning I was kinda mad I was going for my record but if not relaxed I can only go for 4 minutes

What’s the point of even have the snorkel? Just breath in then swim down? Seems like a useless tool unless you plan on keeping your head underneath the water for longer then you can hold your breath?

I've FINALLY learned how to sleep underwater! First I need to get a weight belt that's real cheap and keeps me from floting, next I grab my snorkel and goggles, then I go to the shallow end of the pool near the stairs, then I put on the goggles, snorkel, and weight belt, and finally, I point the snorkel up and sit on the shallow end floor, and doze off. YES! Now I can not only impress my friends, but achieve my marine part of my persona!

[TheDoge] Popeye not they are not! Have you seen people floating chilling on the surface? It is all possible bc as far as your lungs are fill with air you have max flotation, not need to struggle or waste energy! Now try doing that in choppy waters...! Then you would miss not having an snorkel.

Mabye seas have alot of seaweeds and fishes that you cant really see underwater. But the pool is clean and clear to see.

When you are In the sea you can swim on the surface while looking down till you see something you want to look closer at, then you swim down. If you don't have a snorkel you have to raise your head to breath every time.

snorkel that is for what me from 5 to 33 years old i can stay under water 12 mins my i’ve learn this for my great grandparents fisherman underwater that’s why i’ve learn it for practice and practice of how to breath

Why on earth would you take the snorkel out of your mouth when diving down? You need it in your mouth and clear of water when you surface. In the sea you may be hit by a wave when you surface. You need to be able to breathe through the snorkel.
You can exhale into the snorkel when still below the surface when ascending, and the pressure change will clear the snorkel of water when you surface.

As you begin to dive lift your head and upper body out of the water then immediately bring your knees in and tuck momentarily then diving with your head down extending your legs vertically out of the water. Use the weight of your legs to drive your entire body down through the water column . . .
Wish someone told me this right away. Diving straight down is the only way to get down while holding a floaty gopro in one hand. Once your flippers are fully submerged you can get about 3-4 feet deeper without using arms. More than that it takes too much energy, so I just angle down about 45 degrees and kick slowly to move horizontally without rising.

That's not true. If you take the snorkel out of your mouth, you have to stick your had above the water to take a breath. But when you keep the snorkel in, you can just blow in it to get the water out. Then you can keep snorkeling!

uh I just go down with my snorkel in and then use all my strength to blow the water out, I can easily dive down and go back up without surfacing

You spit your snorkel when you descend deep so if you black out your airway will shut and may float to the surface for one last chance at life. That's if your not over weighted on your belt.
