    Thank you for the tips on the process to getting used to breathing with the snorkel on, particularly the part about having water up your nose. Most of the other videos just gloss over this important step

    I used the snorkel so much that I realized I forgot how to breathe on the side lol. But since I don’t swim competitively, it’s not a huge issue for me. The snorkel allows me to push myself to swim harder without having to worry about air.

      I bought one, and I can tell you have to behave like you have a cold and your nose if full. To train this outside water you can put your fingers at your nose holes and only breathe with mouth, and if you feel air on your finger you do it wrong

      Hello sir. As your body generates a suction to inhale the atmospheric air the negative pressure is bound to suck the water in through your nose. You can block the suction from acting at 2 main points:
      1. At the external nares i.e. by using nasal clips
      2. It's pretty easy just be patient and go through the steps I mention in sequence. (To understand this you will need some knowledge of anatomy and functions of pharynx in our body, I would suggest you to watch basic anatomy videos on nasopharynx, oropharynx and very importantly something called as PASSAVANT'S RIDGE) You can create a barrier in between the nasopharynx and the oropharynx with the use of your soft palate and your throat so that the negative sucking pressure that your lungs have created don't get transmitted to your nose. To do that put two fingers gently in both the nares and inhale and exhale with your mouth open. you will feel air moving around your fingers. That is what you would want to not feel in order to prevent water entry. For that swallow some saliva and the moment you feel that your PASSAVANT'S RIDGE is in action and there is a barrier between your nasopharynx and oropharynx, you breathe out and in and out and in. At this point you would feel like you are breathing as if you had a bad cold and you should also stop feeling any air around the fingers you have in your nose because there is no pressure transmission to your nose. Practice it a few times and you will get the hold of it.
      Good luck. I would put a link of some video if I find it online on how to do it.

    I've been learning to swim for four months and, having watched your video and others about training with a snorkel, I was delighted to be sent one for free from Amazon Vine. I swam two joyous lengths with it this morning before I was informed I needed to stop using it as they're not allowed at my pool... nor at any, it seems, here where I live in Leeds. Major bummer. I'm wondering where I could go to practise with it...

      Weird.. how can they forbid you to use this simple training tool.. are they afraid people might drown? I am about to get a snorkel, too, hope the pool attendants are more relaxed at my pool.

    • @ElBeeEss
      @ElBeeEss 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Martin23673 I even emailed Swim England about it, and got a response from them saying it's a health and safety thing. So, yes, I think they're afraid you drown. Or that the pool attendant might not notice you're drowning. Or maybe even that you'll poke someone in the eye with it. I dunno. But if you live in the UK, Martin, definitely check with your pool rather than spend money on something you can't use.

    It amazes me the primal fear of breathing under water induces even amongst great swimmers. It's incredibly humbling for them, almost like starting again, reexperiencing that fear. For instance, how to casually blow air back out of the snorkel without panic. More importantly to purposely do it after a flip turn so training is comfortable and uninterrupted.a

    I gave up on the snorkel because water gets in the tube by rge end of every 50m/y. It annoys me to have to stop every lap. Any advice on what I may be doing wrong? And yes, i am swimming slowly and the snorkel is above the water 😉

    Thanks for your video. I have been using the snorkel for a few times with the nose clip as advised by a swimmer. For the first lap just with the fins and snorkel ,it will be fine. But once I used my arm movement, water will get into my nostril ( even with the nose clip) and I can't breath and have to stop and blow out water from my nostril and mouth. Appreciate any advise from you. Thanks
