  • I FINISHED THIS VIDEO! HAHA! I TOLD YOU ALL I CAN KEEP A CONSISTENT SCHEDULE! Now let's just see if that holds up now that university is starting back up for me XD. Wish me luck.
Anyways, hope you all like the video! Thought this'd be a fun thing to do for 3's one-year-anniversary. I was honestly surprised by how similar the two games' update cycles actually are. So many people online are acting like Splatoon 3's content is super disappointing, but like, it's barely different from 2's post-launch updates lol. It's just a matter of how much content they add how often.

Hi everyone! I'm Maddie (AKA Kit), I'm a trans woman, film student, and all around geek! She/Her only, please. I love video games, particularly stuff from Nintendo and Sony, basically everything to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and animation! I'm apparently a Splatoon TH-camr now lol

Splatoon 3 is a 2022 third-person shooter video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the third game in the Splatoon series following Splatoon 2. Like its predecessors in the Splatoon series, the game consists of online multiplayer (player versus player and player versus environment) alongside a single-player campaign, all featuring combat based around ink.
The game was first revealed in a teaser trailer on 17 February 2021 and was subsequently released on 9 September 2022. The game received generally favorable reviews, with praise for its additional maps, single player campaign, customization options, and gameplay mechanics, but criticism for its matchmaking and disconnection issues and lack of new content. As of 31 March 2023 Splatoon 3 has sold 10.67 million copies worldwide, making it the fastest-selling game in the franchise and one of the best-selling Switch games.
Like its predecessors in the Splatoon series, Splatoon 3 is a third-person shooter. Players choose to be either an Inkling or Octoling as their player character. Both wield weaponry that uses colored ink as ammunition. Weapons are diverse in ability and imagery, with most resembling household objects. For example, Rollers are large paint rollers that can cover large amounts of area in ink but are generally limited to close-range combat. At the same time, Chargers are weapons which resemble a sniper rifle, and have long range for sniping opponents but are less effective at painting the ground. Splatoon 3 expands upon this by adding new main, sub, and special weapons to the game. Main weapons are able to be chosen by the player, sub weapons are assigned to main weapons and act as secondary weapons that use up more ink, while special weapons are also assigned to specific main weapons and require the player to cover the ground with a varying amount of ink in order to charge it up. Inklings and Octolings have the ability to morph into a squid or octopus form respectively. This form is referred to as the "swim form", and can be used to climb ink-covered walls or swim through ink faster than the humanoid forms can walk. Weapons have a finite amount of ink ammunition, and submerging in ink via the swim form replenishes it quicker than in humanoid form. All basic weapons from the prior Splatoon games return in Splatoon 3.

For the people who keep commenting I got the music quantity wrong for Splatoon 3, yes, I'm well aware, please read the other comments before you post your own lol

Squid vs octopus was and still is my favorite splatoon splatfest. It's mainly the gimmick I love, having all octopus members be octolings and all squid members be inklings was so unique and probably the best gimmick we've had in a splatfest.

"sappholopods" is the best way to describe pearl and marina

Theres a key point missed here though in that people naturally expect 6 years of progress and knowledge gathering to be reflected in improved content quality. And instead quality has backpedalled in some key areas. Splatoon 2s updates set a benchmark to be met or surpassed, so missing the mark becomes more noticable than the successes of 3.

My huge major issue with Splatoon 3 that wasn't really touched upon is how worrysome the state of the stringer and splatana classes are. We are basically halfway through the games "lifespan" and we only have 3 kits for each class and 2 of them are identical mechanic wise. These classes SORELY need need kits or better yet new variations and unique takes on each of their respective attributes. Stringers were a major marketing point of the game and Nintendo just being like "heres a new kit or smth lol" a year later is kinda frusterating

  • @originalname4701

I like Splatoon 3 i will admit the game has issues that need adressing but i think overall the game is really fun and i think it's a little overhated but that's just my opinion.

  • @Jtmcgee569

Why are you comparing stuff from splatoon 2 like it’s a brand new game and splatoon 3 isn’t a thing???? How could splatoon 2 win in main weapons when splatoon literally has everything 2 has and more

  • @Ratheartz

With updates i think the main thing people are dissapointed with is mid-late season feeling stale.

  • @gizzmo268

I dont believe splatoon 3 is a departure but rather just the fact that it hasnt improved on the update front, the 3rd game should be better than the 2nd not equal i believe the tie shows that

I still feel like we’ll get a surprise extra year of support. Not only would THREE years make sense for this game, but at this rate it doesn’t look like we’re getting third gets which they could be fine with but this is the THIRD game

  • @reece7285

I hate how they have the audacity to still charge 79.99$ for splatoon 2 decpite it no longer being supported and having a predecessor

I will say on the second kit front there are two things worth mentioning:

  • @k1baede728

Splatoon 3 is so overhated man,it's literally so good compared to it's prediseccors,I'd argue the only thing Splatoon 2 did better than 3 was most of the maps and splatfest😭 Splatoon 3 is literally better in every single way

one extremely petty thing i have with 3 vs 2 is the ink colors and how most of them are some variation of yellow and purple

  • @peggsnbacon

splatoon truly is a live service game that you can play on the nintendo switch

Your channel is really underrated, this video doesn't even look like it is from a channel this small, i hope your channel gets popular in the future! :)

  • @ComaToastHK

Such a well crafted video, and brings up several good points I don’t often see discussed regarding 3's updates. Seriously hoping to see this channel grow more, best of luck to you!

Challenges would be cool if they happened more often and didn’t have teeny tiny available windows that, for me, don’t run during the late hours of the night and early mornings. Idk why they don’t just have these challenges available all the time on rotation..?
