Step 1 - Buy high quality, properly roasted coffee beans. If you use low quality beans, you can do whatever you want and the coffee will always taste bad :)
any suggestions? I honestly don’t know which would be good.
@@gunga834 Pact Coffee is really good.
Where did you find the Clever Dripper for $15?
@@gunga834 local roasters are good
@@gunga834aldies sells phenomenal organince single source beans. No fancy additive flavors just beautiful tasting coffee.
Step 2.5: wet the filter paper in the dripper and discard the water to avoid any paper-y taste
I came here to write that!! Bravo!! 🥳🥳🥳👋💪
Yess 😂😂
I like paper
@@diazzsamasounds right 😂😂
better yet use metal filter
Absolute best! Yes, if that’s how you like coffee. If you hear James long enough he encourages against the elitism that exists around coffee “experts”. Drink it espresso, pour over, etc. Tastes are subjective. Glad you like it the way James showed you. It’s really good and straightforward
He is against elitism yet so much of his channel is very elitist.
Lance Hedrick is the best, a fun, unpretentious guy with a real sense of humour. Hoffmann is the President of the Very Dull Men's Club, UK chapter.
@@itsgonnabeanaurfrommeJames Hoffman's channel is not elitist in the slightest. At no point does he imply anything negative about anyone's coffee tastes. even going so far as correcting other people when they say something like a dark roast being bad coffee as just 'not to my taste'. a lot of his content is for coffee enthusiast sure but no part of his content is elitist
@@itsgonnabeanaurfrommehe's just British
I'm a chemist, & I've been trying every method for many years methodically, recording every parameter & result of every coffee, & I independently came to the conclusion that the best way to make coffee for ease, flavour & consistency, is the same as what this guy just described. The only thing I'd add is you should control the water temperature based on the roast level, aim for around 6% coffee (6g beans per 100ml water), & around 4% creamer. And use a medium grind, a bit finer than for filter coffee
Thanks for the advice Heisenberg 👍🏽
HOW DO I MAKE METHAMPHETAMINE
Been watching James for the last 7 years and man, when he says something is best about coffee, it actually is best !!
Did he actually recommend this recipe though?
$40 right now on amazon 😢
It’s for sale at Americas Test Kitchen Shop website for only $18 right now if you’re still interested! :)
Aeropress is my fav!
maybe random but i really love your voice and the way of speaking!
That’s what I’d recommend for someone who doesn’t want coffee making as a hobby or a fun experience
I advise you to try Ethiopian coffee, you'll be blown away.
Oh, and to elevate your experience, make time to sit through the entire coffee ceremony.
Ali - I love you so much ❤ ! Your content inspires me
Love the grams and mils.
I juz do it my lazy easy way.Put everthing in the cup, pour in water & then strain with strainer.
My dad does an even lazier way! Doesn’t even use a strainer. Just put coffee in cup and pour in hot water, wait a few minutes and drink lol
Thats just french press (immersion brewing) with extra steps.
Immersion plus percolation, and the coffee is ground finer than a French press so different profile
no, filter coffee is originated from karnataka and was invented way before the french press
It's actually simpler and easier clean ups
With a HUGE extra step, percolation
I don't like drinking the fine particles of coffee that comes out of a french press though.
This is the laziest and consistent way to make paper filtered coffee for someone
who simply doesn't want to mess with a specialized goose neck kettle.
This is filter coffee is originated from southern India.
No it is not lol
@@ShlongMaster5000 yes it's is lol u need some knowledge
@@AstroInfinity-ri4dr You need do your research buddy. The coffee you make is nothing like the coffee he made. You add milk and sugar to your coffee while real coffee does not have such additives.
The Clever is so underrated. Great Cale choice as well!
Bonavita ceramic immersion dripper. I have made coffee a hundred ways and more and my favorite will probably always be the bonavita immersion dripper.
it looks like its been discontinued which is a shame. personally ive always disliked ceramic or glass brewers because they soak up a lot of the heat so need more aggressive preheating
you should wet the paper by some hot water then pour that water out, add the coffee powder, pour 40 ml of water on it slowly, let it drip, then add 130 ml and then 130 ml. it's in 3 pours and should take 3 to 5 minutes.
I like that the coffee spends more time submerged in the coffee.
Wtf this guy was teaching me to type fast a few months back now he’s a coffee guru😭
So this device is basically a cup with a fit for a filter and a hole. Can just use any mug and pour into another mug through a filter
you can but its messy and wont give as even an extraction. the clever dripper done right creates a bed of coffee grounds at the bottom which the coffee water then filters through which provides a more even extraction. also pouring a coffee water slurry through a filter tends to clog the paper which makes extraction really slow, using a clever dripper and adding the water first is a lot faster. the dripper is more convenient and will produce better, more evenly extracted coffee
I have tried so many different types and how it is made. Cowboy coffee I like it the best because I no longer have acid reflux
Love this ❤️ thank uou
I tried this gadget, it was decent, but I prefer french press
This is his South Indians drink coffee for centuries but with milk 😊
Everyone here commenting about the coffee. Meanwhile, here I am thinking James Hoffmann looks like Steve Buscemi's long lost brother. 😂
nice!....wish I still drank coffee😓
First comment. I really appreciate your video. Love from India ❤
This edit looks like one of them 2008 TH-cam videos.
The drum beat at the beginning sounds very familiar..
Coffee by weight is ridiculous because each variety and kind of coffee is different.
I just put ground coffee in my cup and then add boiling water 😅
Beast mode
This is just unfiltered french press. Drink that coffee and eat the mud for extra caffein
Clever dripper is $40
That’s right, it is about $40. “$15.” lol
This is the best way for YOU to make coffee. I prefer a prewet filter.
Wait so not everyone mixes their ground coffee with a tad bit of water into some sort of sludge and throws it back like that? 💀
I have used drip coffee over machines for years.
Shouldn't steps 3 and 4 be switched around? As in put your coffee into the filter and then slowly poor hot water over it soaking it all nicely. I use CleverDripper. Having lived in Sweden which lives on filter coffee I have never seen the coffee being put into the water.
It makes the drawn down quicker doing water first
tests found that the coffee gets more evenly extracted and the draw down happens faster if you go water first as it stops fine psrticles in the coffee from clogging the paper
@@JadeNeoma wow thank you, I'll try it out
I don’t get it there’s a hole so once u put the water it starts to drip. How do u wait 3 min… ?
Come to chennai once, and taste the authentic filter coffee.☕
You don't have to fly all the way to a random place to drink some mediocre coffee bruh.
$15? It's now $40
Step 0.5 get a 500$ grinder
Which grinder should I buy?
Me watching this while sipping my Nescafe 😁 Aaaha...ennit
I know it's BPA free but that plastic and hot water still sketches me out
Yeah, that's why I prefer the Hario Switch. It does the same thing, but is made out of glass.
Wait till you hear that some pipes are plastic
@@Ashevlyn But you're not putting 210 degF water in your pipes. Home hot water is normally between 120 to 140 degF.
@scamster71 You shouldn't be brewing with 210 degree water either, burning the coffee isn't much better.
@@scamster71 its alright dont worry
gale makes the best coffee ig
Espresso all day! Haha
Bro is that old man from Tokyo Ghoul
Moka + a good milk frother is the way to go for me.
a moka pot is another great choice. personally i prefer filter style coffee but if you want a milky coffee or something very strong the moka pot or aeropress are great ways to get there without a home espresso machine
Wait 15 bucks?? Why is it so expensive in my country 😭😭 it's like 80 bucks here
Stall The Fall Method
You skipped rinsing the filter paper.
😊 I saw him and he made a statement about it doesn't matter if the actual pourer is plastic or ceramic. Never ever ever poor boiling water inside of something plastic. Get a ceramic device.
the plastic has been heavily tested and doesn't transfer anything to the water. the clever dripper doesnt come in ceramic the only equivalent is the kore expensive hario switch and using glass or ceramic makes it more difficult to get the high temps that light roast coffees need to brew at their best
Whats the grind size
Why is non one mentioning the rather funky suspicious bgm.
Wait, you’re not going to provide steps on how to enjoy the coffee?
Usually you put coffee first, then pour water
For the Clever dripper you put the water in first. This improves the draw down time and prevents over extraction leading to better flavor.
Step one drink pure black coffee for reasons?
Did anyone notice The PH Hub Intro song in the beginning?
Step 1. Put coffee in water.
Step 2. Boil.
Step 3. Let grounds settle.
Step 4. Pour and enjoy your far less acidic coffee.
Do you belive that i don't drink coffee or any type of caffiene at all 😂
Why would anyone care?
Buy Indian steel Coffee filter ☕ No paper 📜🗞️ required simple , reusable, environmental friendly 😊
You have no idea what you are taking about do you? Indian coffee isn't the best so using a coffee filter is the best option.
No Ali, you’re supposed to put the ground coffee in the filter before the water.😞 it will taste even better.
Though counterintuitive, water-first draws down way faster (the results are delicious either way).
Nah, this immersion is more even and less clumpy this way and easier to handle because this device is for the common folk who want a good drip and don’t own a gooseneck that you gotta precisely pour back and forth to get a bloom and then wait and repour to finish off the brew.
Clever dropper is $40!!!!!
reminds me of Viet coffee 🤔
It's an ancient practice in India
No it is not
$15? More like $50 (Amazon, CAD, idk where you got yours)
Broooo, edits brooo, how do you create them, tellll meeee😭😭
You should try South Indian filter coffee
It's not bad but it's certainly not a practical way to get your caffeine.
What beans tho?
15 dlr? Way more expensive.
Coffe w/ out milk & sugar hmm🤔
can'r beat South Indian Fiter Coffee
Even a mediocre latte beats the abomination you call coffee
Isn't that the regular way to make coffee?
Check out South indian Filter for coffee.. it's stainless steel... And much cheaper..
Not viable tho...
South Indian metal filter does the job eat better.
Can anyone please tell me or give links of tutorials how he edits these shorts?
Years of video editing experience?
Hot water in plastic
Cancer
nope, the plastic used in this has been heavily tested and doesn't transfer anything to the water
Espresso...
Is that thing plastic.
Definitely don't put boiling water on plastic 😵
its a heat safe plastic, plastic is a really general term for materials and they behave very differently.
Sticking with my chemex
y tho
For your daily dose of micro plastics!
Don’t pour boiling liquid through plastic then drink it, if at all possible. Use glass!
the plastic has been tested and it doesn't leach any microplastics. the plastic is perfectly safe. in general hest and plastic aren't a good idea but it doesn't hold true for all plastics and the plastic clever dripper is perfectly safe
@@JadeNeoma all things break down over time, especially when heated repeatedly. This may be a high grade plastic but it’s still plastic. If they offer glass or metal, that’s preferable.
coffee is made with the moka
That's one of thousands of ways to make coffee.
RINSE THE PAPER FIRST DAMMIT
Step 1: Buy a 100 dollar gadget
Step 2: Mix the coffee powder in water and wait 4 hours
Step 3: Enjoy!
Are bhai…James Hoffman ne mere ko bhi to sikhaya. Tu uska bhatija hai kya
Bro i can make way more better coffee then that sh!t 😂
Edit: im typing this while drinking coffee
Why does he kinda look like his dad
3min is too much, the water will get cold
No, the water won't get cold in 3 minutes. That said, I use 2 minutes on this. Even with 5 minutes it will still come out hotter than you would want to drink.
South Indians after seeing this:
So early
But filter coffee without milk is crime in South India
Thankfully we are not in south India.
yummy
I love watching the "coffee experts" get triggered
😂😂
Too much coffee.... It's not tea
$20 mr coffee at Walmart
You’re welcome
Won't it be cold ?
Nope! It will still come out hotter than you would want to drink.
Yeah thats not how it works
this is just filter coffee making, nothing fancy about it
its kinda different, normal filter cones are always open at the bottom so the water drains over the whole brew. the clever dripper has a valve so the water doesn't drain while brewing so it's a mix of immersion (like a french press) then a filter stage
Not really. Filter coffee is just a worse version of a latte.
Do you guys drink coffe without sugar?
Every day.
Yes.
@@error.418 isn't that too bitter?
@@dormamo6917 Not at all, you may just be choosing more bitter beans or roasting levels.
@@error.418 we drink nescafe brand coffe the black coffee. Is that bitter?
Can someone explain why the absolute FUCK did he pour the water first!? Because holy shit my OCD is gonna kill me
Ong lol
you put the water in first so the fines in the coffee don't clog the filter paper which causes issues with extraction and draw down
