Cannot wait for the Ori 2 review. It is literally one of the best games I’ve ever played, I’m a huge Ori fan, and I can admit that the first game is like a 6/10, but Ori 2 is on a whole different level.
In my opinion, the second game felt a whole lot less focused and less polished than the first. But maybe that was because I played it around launch back when the bugs and glitches were abysmal.
@@cameronwallace8265 I've played both on switch at least 5 times from beginning to end and I seem to encounter more issues with the first game. Though I've heard that second games' the switch version could bafflingly be the best version of the game. Which is extremely weird since the switch is far weaker than the other platforms, but apparently they put a huge amount of effort into the switch port.
Will of the whisps is one of the few games I’ve one hundred percented. It wasn’t too difficult to do either. Awesome duo of games. I liked the 2nd more because they really made the combat pretty fun. Not to mention the great controls and beautiful art style.
Honestly, ever since I played Ori 2, I have not been able to go back to Ori 1. The sequel improved on every aspect of the first game by an indescribable amount, (which is saying something considering I didn't think there was much improvement to be made after I finished Blind Forest) most noticeably with the fluidity of the animations. Which by the way, the first game still has lovely smooth animations, but Will of the Wisps just absolutely knocks it out of the park!
Arlo hands down makes the best ad reads in all of TH-cam. One could make a compilation of nothing but his ad reads and I would watch it repeatedly! Love you Arlo
Arlo, I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts on Outer Wilds. Its approach to storytelling, its gameplay, and its thorough lore is fascinating and makes it one of the greatest games I’ve ever played
I just wish it was on Switch! It didn't hook me on PC but I feel that with a handheldy/hibrid experience I would have powered through way more cycles. Dying when feeling that you are about to make a major breakthrough is tough! Is it the darksouls of storytelling? I immensely am intrigued about the story, though.
It took me a long time to realise that Pikuniku is picnic in Japanese! 😆 It was a cute, fun game. The Ori games were both great. They were tough, though.
I played Gorogoa a while ago and was pretty astounded. When a lot of puzzle games just follow similar structures and paths, it’s nice to see something completely different.
Nice to see these review come out again. If theres even the slimmest chance of another one of these this year, i'm hoping 'The Wild At Heart' gets a look at, as its clear pikmin style gameplay should be right up your alley, and it really does deserve more eyes on it, such a beautiful game on it's own
Bash (boost) is my favourite movement mechanic in any metroidvania. I love it so much. Arlo, you need to try Tunic! It has a Zelda-like game and has a lot of exploration and discovery. It is probably in my top three games of this year. I highly recommend it. Also, the soundtrack is great.
there once was a dog named zeke to many he was a gamer and geek it was hard for him a game to choose out of fear that he might lose and yet he would often end on a winning streak
You should totally check out just shapes and beats! It's a $20 bullet hell rhythm game. There's a story to go along with it but it's pretty light, only really shown in the level map, cutscenes, and bosses. There are different areas you go through which have light themes in the levels. The story is basically about a pink circle monster invading the blue square world by corrupting the blue triangles and making them pink. Each level you get one triangle back and you have to like get all of them until you have the power to fight back in the last level. Very fun and has AWESOME music for the levels.
really hope youre gonna give ori and the will of the wisps a try soon because for me personally the sequel was way more fun and had a far more heartwrenching story then the blind forest
ori and the blind forest was one of the rare platforming games for me where the challenge/difficulty actually wasn't off-putting! every challenge always felt JUST within my reach and that made me want to try again and again no matter how long it took, specifically because of how much control I had over setting my own checkpoints and experimenting with different movement mechanics in different combinations. that's such a hard balance to achieve though, and I get that that specific formula of challenge vs. attainability vs. the tools you have to get there may not have had the same effect for everyone. gorogoa though?? blew my MIND - absolute masterpiece, truly nothing like it out there. so glad to see it getting some of the attention it deserves!!
You know, I keep hearing about Goragora, but still images don't do it justice. Thank you for showing how the game plays in this collection of reviews. My neurons are activated, and I will be heading to the eShop shortly.
There once was a dog named Zeke He was really shy and unique He had a third eye and could lift a bed by… Just blushing and Redding his cheeks I have no idea XD
I loved Defunct. I Made a small series for my channel a long time ago it's so cool. It's a pretty challenging game if you actually try to get all the collectibles. It's still pretty fun and cool
Can agree, the escaping water + chaining sequence didn't make me as mad as I could have been while retrying it over and over BECAUSE the music was making me feel good at the same time as I was feeling bad, it truly helped me stay rational by balancing out my emotions and I finished the sequence a lot faster then I thought I was going to.
I feel like Ori's music wasn't that good. It was pretty and well orchestrated, but it just isn't anything special. Definitely not a "masterpiece" since most of it is just a repeat of a single song that plays during the dramatic scenes. It's also VERY over the top at times.
@@Victini1734 Highly agree, it was fine and fit the atmosphere but also felt kind of generic at times and tbh the only music i remember is from the escape sequences. Ori 2's music on the other hand? masterpiece.
While I didn’t feel quite as negatively about ori and the blind forest, I agree that it wasn’t perfect by a long shot. I still think the game is great, but it definitely falls short in some areas. But, The sequel Ori and the Will of the Wisps is such an amazing follow up to blind forest. They honed the controls to absolute perfection and completely changed the combat, which was to me personally the weakest aspect of the original. As for the story, I don’t exactly follow your gripes with blind forest, maybe it’s a bit vague, but I personally didn’t find it that hard to at least get the general idea of it. It felt like it was one of those games that you get the main idea of the story and then go to the internet to watch someone break down the symbolism. I believe Will of the Wisps does better at the clarity aspect of the story, but even so, I didn’t find it to be the main selling point personally. It was great imo, but I found the finely tuned evolution of the game play and world design to be the real draw of this game. Will of the Wisps is a phenomenal game and I do how you give it a try.
Zeke was what he called the dog That he watched get roasted on a log He cut open a bun Licked his lips and said "Yum" Someone laughed "Who names a hot dog?"
Goragoa is a MASTERPEICE. My roommates and I downloaded on a super boring weekend during quarantine and played it together throughout the course of an afternoon. We were blown away by how much fun it was to do together. This can absolutely be played in a group where one person does the controller inputs but everybody gives ideas on how to solve the puzzles based on what they can see on the screen. It was like doing a big puzzle together, we were so happy when we finished it together. Highly recommend playing this one !!
I do highly recommend it! For myself, the traversal just got better and freer as the game went on (provided you get to mastering that mid-air redirect move).
holy shit i love gorogoa btw if you liked specifically how the game "plays with your perspective" i would strongly recommend for you to pick the witness, it has a similar idea of making puzzles that can only be solved by knteracting with the enviroment in a way only video games can do but in 3d, honestly my favorite game of all time and one of the greatest of the genre
I completely agree on Ori. The combat was tedious and cumbersome and the save system was more frustrating than anything else. These things bothered me so much that I didn't feel like trying its sequel, but I eventually did. And let me tell you it's a MASSIVE improvement. It shares a lot of ideas from Hollow Knight and rectifies nearly every issue of the first game. The combat is a lot more fluid and balanced, the chase sequences are no longer trial and error, and the game has normal checkpoints. I highly recommend you check out Will of the Wisps because it is a masterpiece.
Oh I LOVE Goragoa!!! I played the whole thing in one sitting when I first got it, and had my mind blown over and over by the sheer brilliance of the puzzles and art. So glad you enjoyed it too Arlo!
Is there any chance you're able to make a compilation of the Raycon ads? I seriously love following the Raycon Saga and it actually would be great binging a Raycon commercial for so many minutes straight 😂
These are my favorite things for you to do. Your review on Ittle Dew got me genuinely interested in a game I would've otherwise blown far past. Please never forget to do these!
Hey Arlo! I hope you're holding up well. We might not say it a lot, but we all love you man. Go relax, take a drive, and just think about the people who mean a lot to you. You're a good Lil Monster.
This is actually my favorite type of content from you. I love hearing your thoughts on lesser known games as it gives people with not as much history with indie games talking about them. I'm actually just about to buy Gorogoa because it looked so interesting. Good work!
Another game I’d recommend is glyph. Currently on sale for only a few dollars. Fun platformer exploration thing but annoying how much you need to slow down so as not to die
Wow! Finally someone who has the same opinion of Ori as me! I got it because it was so recommended and thought it was... fine? I really wanted to like it more, but felt held back for many of the same reasons mentioned. I did enjoy the end sequences though, but I didn't like how the enemies in each region you unlock are basically elemental reskins of ones you have seen everywhere else. But also, I am now definitely going to pick up Gorogoa! What a novel concept!
I hadn't played Blind Forest but I am kind of mid on Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which a lot of commenters really seem to love. It was beautiful and often fun to control, but it asks for a level of precision in movement and interaction that just wasn't there in the controls, at least for me. off-putting, sadly. Gorogoa is absolutely worth it though!!
I'm playing now Ori and the will of the wisps and it's fun. I skipped the first one because I heard about how the combat was disappointing. I also played pikuniku like a year ago and completely agree. The humor is its highlight

Arlo, you need to try Tunic! It has a Zelda-like game and has a lot of exploration and discovery. It is probably in my top three games of this year. I highly recommend it.
Also, the soundtrack is great.
there once was a dog named zeke
to many he was a gamer and geek
it was hard for him a game to choose
out of fear that he might lose
and yet he would often end on a winning streak
You should totally check out just shapes and beats! It's a $20 bullet hell rhythm game. There's a story to go along with it but it's pretty light, only really shown in the level map, cutscenes, and bosses. There are different areas you go through which have light themes in the levels. The story is basically about a pink circle monster invading the blue square world by corrupting the blue triangles and making them pink. Each level you get one triangle back and you have to like get all of them until you have the power to fight back in the last level. Very fun and has AWESOME music for the levels.
really hope youre gonna give ori and the will of the wisps a try soon because for me personally the sequel was way more fun and had a far more heartwrenching story then the blind forest
this is by far the most entertaining raycon commercial I've ever seen wtf
Guys are we gonna talk about how arlo is literally designing a videogame??
How dous this man make me want to watch a sponsered segment... Genius absulute genius
ori and the blind forest was one of the rare platforming games for me where the challenge/difficulty actually wasn't off-putting! every challenge always felt JUST within my reach and that made me want to try again and again no matter how long it took, specifically because of how much control I had over setting my own checkpoints and experimenting with different movement mechanics in different combinations. that's such a hard balance to achieve though, and I get that that specific formula of challenge vs. attainability vs. the tools you have to get there may not have had the same effect for everyone.
gorogoa though?? blew my MIND - absolute masterpiece, truly nothing like it out there. so glad to see it getting some of the attention it deserves!!
You know, I keep hearing about Goragora, but still images don't do it justice. Thank you for showing how the game plays in this collection of reviews. My neurons are activated, and I will be heading to the eShop shortly.
I bought and played Gorogoa on your recommendation and I am not disappointed. What an amazing game! Thank you, Arlo!
This is your cosmic signal to play Dadish on eshop, the absolute top tier 2D platformer trilogy that goes 2 Bucks every couple weeks.
I always look forward to the Raycon ads. I'm so into this Arloverse 😂😂
just wow at Goragoa, its so beautiful.
There once was a dog named Zeke
He was really shy and unique
He had a third eye
and could lift a bed by…
Just blushing and Redding his cheeks
I have no idea XD
Arlo, I don't think I'm ever going to buy Raycons, but you have the greatest custom ads. They are so fun to watch and I rarely skip them.
I loved Defunct. I Made a small series for my channel a long time ago it's so cool. It's a pretty challenging game if you actually try to get all the collectibles. It's still pretty fun and cool
Arlo's raycons ads getting more funnier and have more lore every video...
c'mon Arlo, how are you not gonna talk about Ori's music? That's one of the main draws of the game IMO. Absolutely masterpiece of a soundtrack.
@@Victini1734 Agree to disagree. There were a ton of unique tracks in Will of the Wisps
A Short Hike is one of the best games I've ever played, try that
Zeke was what he called the dog
That he watched get roasted on a log
He cut open a bun
Licked his lips and said "Yum"
Someone laughed "Who names a hot dog?"
UNDERRATED. YES. Thank you for your hard work!
I've missed your upbeat attitude and fun videos these last two weeks!
I’m loving Ooblets right now! It’s kind of like Pokemon meets Stardew Valley with that specific kind of dumb humor that gets me.
Goragoa is a MASTERPEICE. My roommates
and I downloaded on a super boring weekend during quarantine and played it together throughout the course of an afternoon.
That sounds like a good idea. Did 'tale of two brothers' with my non-gamer wife, which was fun. I'll try this one next. Thanks!
Everything Arlo complained about in Ori seems like my cup of tea, to be honest
I do highly recommend it! For myself, the traversal just got better and freer as the game went on (provided you get to mastering that mid-air redirect move).
holy shit i love gorogoa
btw if you liked specifically how the game "plays with your perspective" i would strongly recommend for you to pick the witness, it has a similar idea of making puzzles that can only be solved by knteracting with the enviroment in a way only video games can do but in 3d, honestly my favorite game of all time and one of the greatest of the genre
I watch Arlo videos almost exclusively for the sponsorships at this point.
I love the dramatic music over the generic sponsor
Okay, now I'm totally sold on Gorogoa and I'll be putting it on my wishlist. Thanks for the review Arlo!
Pikuniku was a surprising treat
I would definitely try ori and the will of the wisps because I thought it improved on the original and fixed basically every problem you had
These types of videos are some of my favourites. Super engaging, fun and get me right back to the eshop!!
I love the arlo ads
“Gals we found parking” (drum sounds)
I can't lie, I normally hate those RayCon ads, but...dag gummit, the ending of this one had me in tears. Well done, man.
