When I was in labor, Paul Blart, Mall Cop was on TV. It was too funny, and it hurt me to laugh, so I asked my husband to change the channel. He did, and Anaconda came on. My son was born to the sounds of Anaconda. 😂
When you described Ice Cube discussing the urethra I just visualized every Ice T scene in Law and Order SVU where he repeats some phrase in laman’s terms for the audience.
The amount of times I've seen Anaconda is insane, my grandma loved all the shitty B creature movies. She and I watched low budget horror movies all the time. Lake Placid was another favorite of hers. This episode brought back so many memories of her, thanks you guys :) Great episode as always
Even though there are silly elements , back then You could tell that a movie was a production and a lot of work was put in. Now everything that’s bad is actually just shit. IMO anaconda isn’t a b movie. It’s a big Hollywood movie . The subject matter is just not normally given this budget or focus. Also, the effects were top notch. Now they just throw shitty cgi everywhere with nothing tangible.
It is warrior snake and it's a callback to earlier in the film when Serone talks about the Shirishama worshipping anacondas and according to legend being protected by warrior snakes. I may misremember this but it may be that he even says that there are two warrior snakes which is why there's a second giant anaconda.
Jon Voight's line was actually "You killed my WARRIOR snake??" because there are two types of big ass snakes in the movie apparently. The green male warrior snake and the big red female one.
I don’t know why but the bit where Chelsea’s talking about Mateo missing and the rest of the characters are like “we should go back” and Chelsea goes in John Voight’s weird and wonderful accent “No he dead maybe some other time” had me absolutely crying with laughter. This whole episode has been so funny but that one moment made me laugh so much I had to replay it because it just tickled me! A wonderful episode ! 💜
Snoopy’s brother, not cousin, name is Spike and he lives in Needles, AZ. He has three other brothers Marbles, Andy, and Olaf and a sister named Belle. That reference was made for me and I very much enjoyed it
All three are solid choices! I fucking love Razorback. It's visually gorgeous and surreal. Rogue beautifully captures the Australian locations. I would also throw Black Water in there (from the makers of The Reef).
Another Australian creature feature I like is the 2012 shark movie Bait. If you don’t know what/about the movie it’s when a tsunami hits the coast of a city(never told name) and some survivors get trapped inside a grocery store with two great white sharks in there with them, with half of the survivors inside the grocery store and the other half trapped inside the parking lot underneath the store; as everyone is trapped inside and vetted picked off one by one everyone starts getting cabin fever and start fighting for their lives. It’s a really good short film with likable characters and decent CGI, if you haven’t seen it you should check it out!
this movie is responsible for my lifelong fear of snakes. Condas in particular Yup the anamatronic snake scares the shit out of me still. I see what he means when he says lifeless but god damn the trauma is too deep for me lol
one time i walked into the living room and my mom was watching this movie. It was on the scene where the snake spit out the guy after digesting him some, me being like 8 years old was forever traumatized by that image that looking back on it is extremely tame
Eric Silva-Gomez she is. From Selena to Rom Com classics like The Wedding planner to heavy roles based on socio-economic status in Hustlers. Out of Sight is also really good. Second Act was a great movie as well. I think in pop culture, we have set people we’ve deemed “talented and not talented” and people have put JLo in the latter. I recommend doing a deep watch of her filmography. Of course, like any actor, there are some duds, but man she has so many diamonds in there.
All of em though? maybe the first one because it actually had practical crocodiles at some points but the others are all CGI which James usually hates lol. God that bear getting chomped fucked me up as a kid just the sound it makes is awful it's like ahh fuck poor guy was looking for some trash or a tent to root through minding his business and gets dragged.
46:30 James, it might have been unbelievable, but that kill kicked ass. Jumping up to strangle her, then killing her like how an anaconda would was amazing. And Jon Voight said "Warrior Snake". He explained this when he was telling Cale about the legend.
When Chelsea asking if Ismay was the guy who called in the iceberg I believe she meant did he call for help cause they hit the iceberg, but I thought at first she meant he called the iceberg to be in front of his ships pathway
Regarding Titanic. A second class steward survived, and even managed to save 20 people from the water. When he returned home he was disowned for not going down with the ship by his family.
I'm so happy that you did a podcast on this movie! I remember requesting it when you asked about requests for future kill count series a few weeks ago. You're 100% correct when you say: "it's so stupid, it's good."
Man, I"ve been in a kind of "guilt love" with the Anaconda movie since pre-teen days cuz it was released in Brazil as soon as my father let us know that we were moving to Manaus-AM (I'm from the southern part of Brazil, btw) and I really thought I'd be a heroic kind of kid, crossing the river frequently and fighting giant snakes. HOWEVER, to my disappointment, Manaus was such a developed (and growing) big city and the closest I got an anaconda and the real rain forest was years later while in military service. Plus, sometimes you were just walking around the city, saw a commotion near to one of the "tiny" river streams and it was the fire department and police removing an anaconda from someone's house... Saudades.
From time to time here in BH - MG and surrounding cities we have to call the fire department to remove snakes too. Of course they're cerrado snakes, I mean, we're pretty far from the Amazon, but it causes the same kind of commotion hahahah 90% of the times though we just find random cows running around.
I was just listening to this for a few minutes, and when I looked back up, I was like "Holy crap, a cat!" The several minutes of Lucy's mean-mugging the camera was hilarious.
They’ve talked about it throughout some of their podcasts and there was one podcast where they compared horror characters to see who would win in a fight and FranknFurter was one the characters :)
Anaconda and Lake Placid were childhood staples for me in the creature feature genre (thx mom!) so I'm really excited to be heading straight for your video on seeing Lake Placid for the first time!!
Oh yes this is everything I hoped for. I love your concise yet opinionated views on a movie when dissecting it but oh I love these fun ones. Time for popcorn, cross stitching and settling down to this gem about one of my favourites.
Thank you so much for covering this movie!!! I was obsessed with snakes and obsessed with this movie as a kid. Everyone hates this movie, so I'm glad to hear you guys had fun watching it. Y'all and Roger Ebert are alright for enjoying Anaconda
As a child I was obsessed with this movie. I was in first grade when the second one came out and I used to draw all the scenes for my art class. I am still obsessed with snakes but super scared of them haha
The first time I watched this movie was in either 2002 or 2003 when I was 7 years old. I rented the film in vhs from my home town public library. At the time, it never crossed my mind, but today, I wonder my my parents let me watch it. Despite my age, it never bothered me and around the same time, the sequel, The Hunt for the Blood Orchid was released in theaters!!!
Roger Ebert adored this movie and thought Jon Voight's performance was worthy of a Supporting Actor Oscar Nomination. No joke!!! Still shocked by his adoration for this film!
if you want another "Paranormal Pool Party" you could do the Conjuring series since there's plenty to pick from? Or possibly the Amityville series? I'd even enjoy ya'll looking at "children's/childhood horror" and look at Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark (maybe pick your favs if you watched it or just cover episodes fans suggest. I'd also suggest possibly getting the youtuber Pushinguproses in to talk about those since she's covered them on her channel but I know doing guest stuff is harder right now)! There's also the obvious coverage of I know What you Did Last Summer for a summertime horror marathon!
This was one of my guilty pleasure horror movies and between this, Jaws, and the 1976 King Kong being my gateway into the horror genre. Also if Phelous has taught me anything it's that Jon Voight's legs can be just as constricting as the anaconda

Really liking all the screen time Lucy is getting in this episode
When I was in labor, Paul Blart, Mall Cop was on TV. It was too funny, and it hurt me to laugh, so I asked my husband to change the channel. He did, and Anaconda came on. My son was born to the sounds of Anaconda. 😂

I'm sure Lucy has interesting things to say about Anaconda

Anyone else love when Lucy stares directly into the camera while James and Chelsea talk about the movie?
I was playing Animal Crossing while listening and looked up to see Lucy's death stare 40:31
Tysm for pointing this out
I am obsessed with Chelsea's stunning green nail polish! Matches the writing on her shirt and looks so good w/ her red hair, loving it
Lucy very polite to keep Chelsea in frame for her film debut.
According to the script, it's "You killed my warrior snake!"
Which makes even less sense somehow...
Voight tells a story earlier explaining the legend of the warrior snakes and the snake god I believe.
It is warrior snake and it's a callback to earlier in the film when Serone talks about the Shirishama worshipping anacondas and according to legend being protected by warrior snakes. I may misremember this but it may be that he even says that there are two warrior snakes which is why there's a second giant anaconda.
It sounded like “wild snake” to me lol what a mess
I always heard “white snake” a la white whale lol
Mathias Eggimann Bahahahaha
Jon Voight's line was actually "You killed my WARRIOR snake??" because there are two types of big ass snakes in the movie apparently. The green male warrior snake and the big red female one.
Wtf I didn’t know there were two snakes
I like “you killed my wife snake” much better 😂
_You killed my live snake!?_
It's a reference to Moby Dick; the White Whale = White Snake.

Lucy staring at the camera like “these people keep taking my humans attention away from me 😑”
Lucy looks like she’s contemplating some big life decisions for a good portion of this episode.
