Thank you indeed for the film sharing. This magnificent view of the locomotive and its previous history in Vietnam used to be part of my life many years ago.
This is the best train film I have seen on TH-cam ever! The scenic vistas, the train itself, your camera positions, the sounds and the quality of the film is breathtaking!! Thanks you so much for sharing this Gem!!
Very skillfull filmed, would do in any profesional production. Like they fact that the railway goes straight up there where the road needs serpentines, shows how steep the rack section is. Last time on the Furka pass is almost 20 years back now, when we have been climbing some mountains there, but now the railway is finished I need to go back and do a trip.
I travelled on this line in 2009. Back then, the final section between Oberwald and Gletsch was not yet finished. Really a fantastic effort, to think it is only in existence thanks to a few visionaries and the toil of volunteer workers! I do like the way they sprinkle the forest to prevent potential fires. You will notice that the train slows down to cross the road. this is because there is no rack on the level crossing. The pinion disengages just before and resumes opertion just after the crossing. You can even hear it grab on to the rack.
Video was put together really well, especially some of those shots, beautiful video, beautiful loco & excellent scenery! Always nice to hear a steam loco working hard, although not a fan of her whistle. In Tasmania here in Australia, we have a rack railway. It uses the same rack system, ABT to climb the steep 1 in 12 grades between Queenstown and Regatta Point (Strahn), under the name West Coast Wilderness Railway. Beautiful little 0-4-2 tank locos work this line. I have a couple of videos up now if your interested.
There is a great article in Trains Magazine May 2013. The article goes into discussion about this railroad and the history behind this beautiful railroad. The view of this railroad and the backdrop must have been breathe taking.
What a stunning last shot. Brilliant!! Unusual to have a cog rly where the loco is pulling instead of pushing. Why did they have the sprinklers on that far up the mountain? Great stuff......Tim.
Cabrio Driving In The Alps no, the flora around sucks much more than the Trains produce. they closed it, because they built a new base Tunnel for winter

Thanks for watching.
Not only a fantastic video, it also goes to show how much less invasive a railway is, when compared to a relatively narrow road.
Thanks for watching
Stunning shots Phil, and not a spikey fence or piece of litter to be seen anywhere. Thanks for sharing with us!5*
That's just sublime Phil. Cracking little loco and scenery to die for. I do hope the rest of your holiday is as good. Chris

That makes a change from Ais Gill Phil, what great shots and scenery.
Fabulous video Phil, great camerawork throughout to capture both the superb scenery and the train. That final sequence was just pure magic.
Fantastic footage Phil, from every location. I really need to go back over there one day and get some footage of my own...

Excellent ! Many Thanks.
this is so cool!!!
it's the final panning out shot at the end that's the killer

Sprinklers are to avoid wild fires in the pine trees down there. They work automatically and will switch off once the train arrives
Very nice layout and video.
Thanks for watching and glad you liked.

What's the gradient on that track? And why is the rack gear not moving?
its 11%, its a combined loco, the rack gear is underneath the boiler where you couldn't see it from this distance
@981smithy Are you in Switerland at the moment and using the hotels internet?
Formidable

Wat enorm irritant dat TH-cam van die popups toestaat , zodat je ongevraagd reclame ziet !
Where does that engine get it's coal or is it oil?
Its in her tiny backpack. Its around 1.5 tonns of coal in there

Didn't they finish off this railway due to CO2 emission nonsense?
Cabrio Driving In The Alps no, the flora around sucks much more than the Trains produce. they closed it, because they built a new base Tunnel for winter
Cabrio Driving In The Alps and before it was closed it was completely electric. now they take the old steamlocos for touristic reasons
