    I love everything about how Jack is portrayed in this scene. When he’s surrounded by Davy Jones crew he makes an epic getaway to face Jones 1 on 1, you get to see some empathy from him when he says “I can set you free mate”, he tricks Jones into showing him the key and beats him in a duel, the “Oi! My pistol!” line and him shooting the chest out of Jones hand is awesome, then he does some sick stunts and is ready to fight Jones again before remembering his sword broke so he picks up a log and fights him with that, then when Will is killed he gives up what he wanted so badly to save his friends life. Such a perfect scene.

    • @Twerkulies
      @Twerkulies ปีที่แล้ว +88

      I love that pistol scene but the gunsmith in me cringes so much. In good weather, smooth bore, round ball, your chance of hitting your tiny target in ideal conditions is less then 10%.... in that weather its probably less then 0.10%. Not to mention, flintlocks did not work well in rain. You have to have a tiny amount of powder in a tray where the flint sparks fly to which ignite the powder on the inside of the barrel.

    She was fated to find a handsome man washed ashore her island - someone she would fall in love with. But she could never convince them to stay and thus, would always suffer from a broken heart.

      The filmmakers cared about lighting, interation with human characters, using physical props/references where they could, giving the effects people enough time to polish.

      @user-jr3zr2mp9c On the screenwriters' commentry for the first movie they state as much. According to them, Will is the best swordsman in the film, followed by Barbossa and James Norrington, who are on equal grounds, and that Jack was the worst. It is inconsistent with what's actually portrayed on the screen though, since Jack clearly matches Barbossa in their duel at the end of the first film, and he is the only one who holds his own against Jones in this film (you could argue that he actually beats Jones since he disarms Jones, whereas Will and Elizabeth were beaten in seconds).
      Norrington is the only one who has actually beaten Jack in a duel (he disarms him in the three-way duel in the second film), but you could argue that Jack wasn't actually interested in the duel itself as his focus was on obtaining the key to the Dead Man's Chest, whereas Norrington was genuinely trying to kill Jack.

    • @fala5764
      @fala5764 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@kingofthering3343they probably meant it more from a technical or skill related sense of being better. We know Barbosa is extremely good with the sword, same with will and norrington who both practice a ton, while Jack isn't quite as good on a technical level but covers for it by using his brain in combat to pull of tricks or confuse his enemy. The only fight it seems he took completely seriously was his duel with Jones, where he showed that perfectly, using everything he had to his advantage. Against Barbosa jack was smart enough to be cursed before starting the duel, and his win condition wasn't to beat Barbosa in a duel, but for will to get the treasure to the chest and break the curse, meaning he had no reason to fight seriously. In dmc, he never really took the 3-way duel seriously because he doesn't really care who gets the chest, as if will gets it so what, and if norrington gets it both him and will will probably stop him before anything happens.

      Let's be honest, while build up to Endgame was great, final battle setting was extremely underwhelming. Here? Fighting on top of the mast of the ship in the middle of Maelstrom during thunderstorm? Setting alone elevates scene to 10/10.

      @@simpleneeds2582 Honestly I didn't mind that particular part that much. It was cringe, but also so corny and cute that I overlook it given more significant issues. Such as setting (boring pile of rubble), basic two sides running at each other and punching contest, or Private Marvel single highhandedly turning the tide.

    I like how you can clearly see Jack's ability to think on the fly with some of his own luck thrown into the mix. Break the thing that holds the sail down to make a get away, and be lucky to even stick the landing. Luckily an enemy with his pistol was swinging by, immediately shoots the chest out of Davy Jones' Hand-Tentacle thing. Sword is a no go, use the log instead. Oh, look, the Key is crawling by.

    I love how Jack accomplished 3 goals here.
    1. Kills his nemesis and biggest threat
    2. Avoids the whole cutting out his heart and become doomed to the Dutchman
    3. Saving a friend from atleast total death

      Jack goal was to cut his heart and become the Dutchman’s new captain. He wanted to live forever, be inmortal. Jones basically screwed his plan by having him choose between Will or immortality.

    Captain jack sparrow was indeed unlike any pirate we have ever seen
    Well he was never really the bad guy kind of pirate
    He struck a deal but had a heart for the lost souls he was to deliver and so he struck another dangerous deal that gave him his ship that set people from being slaves
    He was a good man

    There will be no replacing Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow...even if Disney does the most predictable thing which will be a reboot...if a movie is 10 yrs or older it qualifies for a reboot in today's Hollywood....that's sad.

    • @wafflingmean4477
      @wafflingmean4477 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish they would just let directors make new things rather than rebooting literally everything. Very, VERY occasionally a reboot is warranted for a film. It's more of a thing for video games where you can keep the same voice actors but update all the visuals and gameplay. It's so much harder for movies. You can't reboot Jack Sparrow. He's lightning in a bottle and no one but Johnny Depp will ever be able to catch it.

    One thing I really like about this battle is that it is extremely epic, serious and at the same time funny, but the humor is placed in such a perfect way and in the right measure, even though there are silly comedy scenes, the entire fight is still epic and doesn't lose its serious tone. Something that Marvel films almost never managed to do. Hans Zimmer's soundtrack helps a lot with this too. Simply everything is perfect and detailed in this battle and in the entire film. There are few films like this nowadays
