    what coolant system does it use the engine coolant system?

    • @chriskamen2152
      @chriskamen2152 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ask, because in theory wouldnt upgrading your engine coolant system(ie adding another aux radiotor driver side or adding beefy radiator) be the same as improving cooling for the transmission and engine oil.

    • @kern417
      @kern417  ปีที่แล้ว

      it doesn't use coolant. it is direct cooling for the trans fluid.

  • @Toca_driver

    Will this work if you have an upgraded charge cooler like Wagner or csf? They are a little thicker than oem. So maybe not enough room between the radiator and the bar inside the kidney.

    Great video, one thing to comment on. The coolant for the transmission cooler is not in the same loop as the engine coolant. It's on the A2L loop where the your intercooler coolant is from. So it actually doesn't heat up the trans oil as you stated and there is an internal thermostat on the cooler that stops oil flow until it reaches temperature. The nice feature of the BMS cooler is that it separates the A2L coolant loop, so the trans oil is not heating up your intercooler coolant. Which in favor returns cooler IAT numbers when the loop is separated.

    Hi!
    What could be the cause of transmission not getting up on temp?
    I recently changed my trans heat exchanger as I thought it was the issue. But my box only reached 25c after 20min drive and coolant reached 90c.
    No codes no nothing
    Every other hose in the cooling system is hot to the touch except the outlet hose on the heat exchanger!
    The oil level in the box is correct and coolant system also bled. I had the box itself level out and not car. When the car is level the box tilts slightly backwards but the bottom pan is totally level. I check with spirit level under the fill plug to confirm
    Regarding my 435i with zf8hp45

    • @kern417
      @kern417  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say. But there's a controller or thermostat that manages your oil. Maybe that's bad.

    • @lucasborka3714
      @lucasborka3714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kern417 I don’t have a thermostat on the cooler lines, the oil is free flowing through the heat exchanger. There is a thermostat for the coolant but it seems slow to open.
      But it is maybe just slow to warm up, drove 26mins yesterday and the box reached 50c

  • @brakthru2
    @brakthru2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very informative. I always wait for engine oil temperature to be over 180° before flooring it. I honestly never thought about waiting for the transmission to warm up. You think short single gear pulls are damaging to transmission if temperature hasn't reached 165°? Just looking over my logs, I've seen transmission temperatures 90- 100°. I'm stock turbo custom e60 tune F22 M240i. No track but I drive it! Also, what mileage you recommend transmission fluid change?

    • @kern417
      @kern417  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it's a huge problem. Trans always takes longer to warm up so that's the good thing about the stock setup.
      Fluid change is recommended around 60k-100k

    Hi, could you please help with one question, somebody told me that if I would upgrade the 340i 1st gen to 550+ hp I have to change the full gearbox and I have to upgrade to 8hp70, this is true? Can you please help and let me know if 8hp40/45 can hold this amount of power? Thank you!

    • @kern417

    This is going to change the transmission fluid service pretty significantly. Hopefully there is literature that users can refer to if they decide to purchase and run this cooler.

    • @kern417
      @kern417  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ultimately you never drain all the oil from your engine either. But you can still pull the line and drain what you can from the rest of the cooling system manually.

    • @payamh9118
      @payamh9118 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kern417 @xxthe_remedyxx Correct! You will just drain the oil from the pan, then undo one of the lines off the billet adapter and let the oil drain from the lines/cooler.

  • @MrErball
    @MrErball 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    More of an open ended question posed without any frontend research: What type of line pressure would this see? I know from the vw/audi world the cores on these would never last due to the upwards of 8bar line pressure. I could see doing this in the future for track purposes (with turns, not 1/4 mile) for extended hot lapping. Nice to know this exists, and not a terrible price either.

    • @payamh9118
      @payamh9118 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That pressure is inside the valvebody between the solenoids. The cooler side doesn't see anything close to that. The OEM lines are plastic, they would blow up if it saw that kind of clutch pressure you're thinking of.
