I read a book about Albania during the communist era ("Błoto słodsze niż miód" by Małgorzata Rejmer, highly recommend) and it left me speechless. Being from Poland, I thought I knew how awful that time could have been for people in Eastern Europe. Boy, was I wrong. It was pretty awful for most of us behind the Iron courtain and there were people that were wrongfully imprisoned and even killed in many (if not every one) of those countries, but the atrocities that took place in Albania were just another level. They literally made me cry. Lots of love to the Albanian people! May the history never repeat itself...
what a bullshit. communism in albania was like everywhere else in eastern europe. eastern germany shot dead hundreds of people at the border. this never happend in albania.
I think that's a fair point as we probably thought the same. But I didn't for one second feel unsafe. And bare in mind I'm carrying around an expensive camera etc.
That's the first vlog from Albania that I've ever watched! I dont know much about the country either, I'll learn a bit via you guys. The cable car up the mountain looked fun. Reminded me of doing similar in Switzerland, only there definitely was snow up there 🥶. Those crêpes looked yummy.
Loved the video , myself and wife are in Tirana 3 weeks Friday for a few days , we gave up on the boring same old same old ,so we went off to Kansas Lithuania kosovo twice Serbia north Macedonia and trust me the best ever decision we’ve made , our travel now is full of excitement and different is king . We to get what you going there for but ignorance is a bliss lol more to life than Majorca. A lot of stray dogs in kosovo but like I noticed with Albania dogs there tagged which means all injections give mm etc and Fed. Brilliant guys enjoy
My dad R.I.P escaped Albania during the communist regime left his mother and his older brother and finally returned to Albania with my mum and 2 brothers in 1994 after 35 years! Finlly reunited with his brother after all those years! I could write a book on his life and it will be a sad tale with a happy ending! Dads life story would make an amazing movie! I wish I could tell his life story in the comments section!
Hey Guys, Enjoy your holiday! Cheese and bacon...where's the pineapple Rob! LOL. This is a great episode. Albania wouldn't have been a first choice of destinations. But you have now changed my mind!
@@CharlieandRob Poland and Albania used to be the "eastern block contires" under the influence of Soviet Union. I know that 48 hours is too little to draw conclusions, but.. have you noticed anysimilarities and differences between the two countries? What is it like from the point of view of a Brit?
As nice as it looks 👌, still not as good a view as from Mt. Wellington , well, I'm probably a tad biased 😅👍. I wonder, do all dogs in Albania have those ear tags🤔. Charlie, just yum choc strawberries with coconut 😋
Mount Wellington would have been perfect if it wasn't so windy haha! I assume it's to show that they are stray dogs almost like how they tag certain animals in Africa.
Wow what a great place, we were looking to going to Sarande in Albania 🇦🇱 from Corfu town next year. (Ferry over) Where did you fly to Tirani from and with which airline please? I have looked and mainly Luton with wizz air. We live on the South coast too….Dorset.
I watched it, I'm happy you liked a capital centre of heart Albania, summarise my trips to Albania , I have family there, first I will write about positive: food is amazing, still not involved chemicals in this country like in all Europe. Nature - up country beautiful mountains, down amazing beaches. People, dependent where and what you doing, up country they are more strong in mindset - there womens has little bit difficult life... Down country less restrictions, better for womens. Rubbish everywhere, homeless dogs cats everywhere, they see you are foreign/ outside country they wanna more money when serving time comming, next step - corruption- long way for them to be free , like we are in Europe. I m foreigner for them too, but I saw many things, good and bad. I understand them language, little bit even speak, I like this country because nature, food - but nothing else - not really amazing when you are inside

Thank you for mentioning the book. It was indeed, terrible. Communism, the cruelest idea ever invented by mankind.
Looks a really amazing nation 🎉 love Albania from Belgium 🎉
Great video. Looking forward to part 2. Albania is one of the last places I'd think of going to because I thought it was dangerous for some reason.

How long is the cable car please

I enjoyed watch you both

@@CharlieandRob 😅agreed 👍. Oh really, that's a bit sad about the strays. So they are allowed to roam as long as they have ear tags?
@@leandabee I assume its just to keep track of them.
It means that the dogs have been jabbed or vaccinated.
Only street dogs have taggs no owners
Bravo bellissima vidio.
Thank you!
Where about is that grill meat place please , is it to far from Centre ? 😋 Thanks
Not far at all. Just north west of the square

The Js in Eastern Europe are pronounced as Ys, > Dayti.
Nice video.
Yes I should have assumed that considering im learning polish!
Its definitely not the number 1 tourist attraction in Albania😂, maybe Tirana you meant, even then debatable
What did we say?
