    As a former owner of a Grand Marquis, I would like to note that around this time Ford was building Explorer SUVs with independent rear suspension. For some reason they kept the solid axle on the Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Town Car until the bitter end.🤔

      @charlie_nolan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably for durability on fleet models, and not engineering a new suspension is cheaper lol

    I always thought Ford missed an opportunity with these to make a truly high performance version more mainstream with this car. I think even the old customers buying this car would have wanted it.

      Totally agree. Other than the Marauder, there wasn't much. Crown Vic GT with a 5.4 perhaps?

    • @hotrodray6802
      @hotrodray6802 ปีที่แล้ว

      They actually made some with the Marauder engine.

    What this video does not mention, is the Crown Vic's legendary
    reliability. It has very few mechanical issues, it is generally easy to work on, parts are reasonable in cost and widely available anywhere in North America.

    Let's be realistic ABS and traction control should have been standard across the board for a vehicle like this; especially for type of consumers that were purchasing them.

    • @yahmutha
      @yahmutha 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Which type of consumer? Elderly? They didnt have ABS or traction control most of their life.

    Very informative and compelling product video, superbly presented. Not just featuring and explaining this vehicle’s compelling safety and engineering story, but it also turned the practical car you need, into a car you want.
    Writing from Australia, I’ve never seen a CV in the metal. But now after watching this, I almost want one myself! Love those power-adjustable pedals, which btw were also seen for a time on our local Ford Falcons etc - where are they now?

    Those LX Sports were sweet. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but LX Sport underneath was essentially a PPV but with some nice interior bits and 17 inch wheels?

      From my knowledge. It had better suspension, console shifter, 3:27 gears and dual exhaust with resonators that bumped the horsepower up to 239. The p71 police models had 250hp with dual exhaust with no resonators, 11.25 inch torque converter with a higher stall, 80mm maf sensor with a bigger airbox, aluminum driveshaft, high output Mitsubishi alternator with a one way clutch, a choice of 3:27 or 3:55 gears with limited slip option. The police model also had a more aggressive engine and transmission tune with raised shift points.The police model had more ground clearance then its civilian counterparts. The civilian Crown Victoria had 2.71 gears, single exhaust, smaller maf sensor and airbox, 12 inch torque converter which is why they shift at around 5100 rpm at wide open throttle. The Lincoln Town car had 3:27 gears with non limited slip standard in the later years but it is also the heaviest of the 3 panther platform cars and also has more sound deadening for a quieter ride. I almost forget the handling package was air suspension. The police model used a beefed up firmer suspension no air it is great for high speed maneuvering and absorbing bumps but it will beat you up compared to the others. And im sorry I typed so much but this is the last of what I know I promise. The police model top speed is limited to 125 mph with 3:55 gears and 130 mph with 3:27 gears. The civilian models is 110 mph or 112 going down a hill lol. Which really equals 108 based on gps and obd readings.

      I had an ‘03 Interceptor (with Trak Lok) and a set of studded Goodyear snow tires and it was a beast in the snow (I live in NE Ohio). This setup was similar to what the local PDs ran in my area at the time.

    Without the Lincoln Town Car (the Crown Victoria's Cousin), the Mustangs wouldn't have the Ford V8 4.6 (the 5.0 didn't have enough power in the early 1990s).
