I rolled away from my first rock and roll today. That was one that always eluded me when I was younger and actually skateboarded regularly. After 8 years, I’ve been back on my board for about a week and today I finally got a rock and roll and after a week of stumbling and falling around it was the perfect small victory to keep me moving.

Picked up the skateboard after 3 years, haven’t been any good for the 20 years that I’ve skated. Started from the bottom a few days back, a lot of lessons that I’ve watched on this channel were things I was doing naturally to warm up. It’s handy as to know where I’m getting it wrong, getting hung up and not knowing why. Now I know 😁🤙

Sorta like the OG,S SKATE TEAM . just for fun like old dudes that surf together or play soccer or softball. Trying to get it together and SPL ,s fits right into that. Yea I know if ain’t hardcore or super Gnar but it gives us old guy an excuse to get back on our boards. Screw what society says. I’ve been laughed at and told I’m gonna break my back. Shiii you can do that going to work. I love skateboarding. It’s in my blood. It’s in me. It’s in us.
I’m not gonna quit. I’m 51 and havin fun . 😂 more fun then when I was trying to desperately get sponsored.
It’s all about fun and air dude ! It’s no wonder that my day job is fixing in flying airplanes. Makes total sense.
That and a love to build skatable structures. Me and my buddies made our first skate park when we were 17 we were lucky and had a whole chicken house a commercial chicken breeding house that went bust and it just happen to have the most perfect cement floor and a nice roof to cover it from the long island, rains and winters. A lot of awesome sessions went down in the chicken shack. I’ll tell you that much. Lol.
Many guys added to the LEGENDARY RIVERHEAD CHICKEN SHACK . Nobody bothered us neither. It was the strangest thing. Peace to all the Mattituck dudes ,Riverhead cats. And anywhere else people came from. It was so epic for its time. Rain and winter in the East meant long weeks of no skating or just dreaming of skating. It was harsh for sure. I spent many nights dreaming of living in SF or SD I even made it out there a couple times but the vibe and time wasn’t right. Skating was in a struggle for survival at that time so really only the best of the best we’re gettin on.
Well deserved I might also say. Guys like Mike V , Bucky , Sean Sheffey , later on inspiring guys like Keith Huff ,Bobby Pulio sorry if I misspell shit. But these dudes were not being stopped ! Man not to say the west had it easier but the East Coast Cats ..man they had to come hard as fuck or get laughed out of a spot. The Cali guys had to also but the chances of hitting all the right buttons to flow then on to making to a full sponsorship and a board felt like trying to win the LOTTERY to me.
Anyway I’m just an old head getting off subject but I hope skate company’s take heed please. We need to take care of our own. I feel like skating is a family and look at what this family did. We got parks in almost every major city ! That’s huge. Thanks Tony and many many many others.
I still have a hard time with the normalizing of it and I’ve never been a contest head but that’s my own trip. If you want that so be it. Just please pay it forward. I read a crazy thing about Ben Schroeder being laid up and almost loosing his leg and not having money to pay for a place to stay !? That’s nuts ! Dude that’s what separates us from what we do from the rest of the worlds if you wanna call sport. Man we’re more than monkeys on Sticks my man ! We’re artists ,musicians and we got heart like a mutherf….r ! Let’s pro anything run full blast and bail at walenburg ,get up and do it again ! Or drop in on a 13 ft ramp and 720 on the other side . That takes commitment like a mofo bro.

Great video as always! I would love to see a video on the 'fakie bonk' (don't know the actual name). Like the fakie pop rock, but you land back in the transition rather than on the coping. A blunt to fakie video would be great too!

Awesome video again, when I try half cab rocks I get up to the coping spin and just seem to hit my front wheels or trucks and hang up , I can never get into rock position .

You need more speed to ride up further and land in the middle of your board. Remember to kick turn Before your wheels stop rolling. 💙🛹💙

So first of al sick video! Really informative!
I do have one problem though...
The “half cab rock” every clip you have before the final “half cab rock and roll” is more of a fake kick turn rock than a half cab since it’s only your front two wheels coming off the ramp. However your last clip all 4 wheels were completely off the ramp. It would be sick if you could make a video explaining the ‘pop’ part.
Once again, not hating AT ALL. This video is sick.

@@SkateparkLessons and maybe try a progression sequence of shots in series. The smallest to biggest; do your hand wavy stuff, show the expansion of it. From the smaller stuff as you suggested.

i just love your videos!! been skating on/off about 6 years but i have never progesset so much thx and i felt that i had to start over every summer ( long winters in sweden) but this year iam skating alot more miniramp and i have finally been able to do my first rock to faike and tail stall. still haveing trouble getting my axle stall over the coping ( i lean to much in to the ramp so i cant really get up and stand on the coping but pratice make perfekt! :D thank you soo damn much for all the great informaiton and HOW TO BAIL! not many people tell you how to bail out of tricks. by the way iam intressted in spitfire conical full ( i have always just ridden normal wheels) will the shape hinder me or is it easier to lock in to coping with stright edge on the wheel?

JB! Question... I can't get over that mental hurdle when I go up to rock to fakie. I nail the stall perfectly... but ALWAYS jump off as soon as I start to rock back down. Any advice? Thanks for the vids!
You’re not alone! Practice the movements I teach in my rock to fakie video and then practice them on a bank to build confidence and muscle memory. Wear pads and helmet and try only putting your wheels over the coping on the smallest quarter pipe you can find to build commitment, then start to do it the right way and pump out. 💙🛹💙

What do you call a “half cab rock and roll” when it is done nollie? i’ve asked SO many people what this trick is called and no one has a definitive name. it’s done the exact same as a half cab rock and roll except you’re riding normal and then you nollie revert/rotate on your front trucks to get your back trucks over the coping and then revert back out to fakie essentially doing the same nollie revert again but out of coping and down the ramp/bank/etc
It doesn’t really have a name, since you’re not popping into it. So it’s a no pop nollie half cab rock and roll 💙🛹💙 and it’s a good trick 👏🏽
