      Well thank goodness she was only making it for herself, and possibly showing others who'd want to make this at home for themselves and family and friends, rather than for customers, right?

      @barbara gill I don't believe in eating a steak Well done and cooking prime rib or tenderloin to well ruins it but I'm willing to make it how a person wants it. I base it on the cut of meat as to how well I cook it. To each his own but if I pay $20 for a steak it better be the way I want it or it will go back. They don't have pros working the kitchen in these places and it isn't hard to learn to cook a steak but it's easy to fuck up if you don't know how.

      @@dontdiscriminatehateeveryo9263 you're right there. It's usually strip steak as well which isn't even a very good cut. You can always find ribeye on sale at your local supermarket. Butter, garlic, thyme and a skillet will give you a delicious steak meal for 2 for 20. Way better than applebee's 6 oz steak...cooking steak dinners at home changed my life! I eat steak all the time now that I don't treat it like a special restaurant meal.

      Outback is disgusting as fuck. Take it from me-I used to work at one. Their "Bloomin' Onion" has an IMMENSE amount of calories that take about an hour's worth of working out to burn off, and most of the other items on the menu are nasty as hell. Ethically, they're a pretty shitty company too.

      Omg yes! Texas Roadhouse’s sauce is so good!!!!! I can demolish 1/4 of one of those by myself! Going to Roadhouse on Thursday and SO EXCITED for a bloody steak and THIS! And RANCH DRESSING on my salad! ALL THE CALORIES!

    This is so funny I was just telling my wife about this onion how much I love them. I moved to the Philippines They never seen nothing like this. Well the biggest onion I can find here is about half that size maybe even smaller. One day My wife and I will make it back to the states for a visit and I will let her try one. You videos get me so up beat and my energy going. you one of the best here on you tube

    Just found one of these that has been sitting in the back of an old cupboard for literally over a decade, unopened. I totally forgot about it but everyone around here loves blooming onions and I've been making them by hand. This easily cuts about 30-45 minutes off the preparation process all by itself for me. Without it you get to peel all the petals apart one by one and the cuts are almost never eye candy like this even when the onion wants to cooperate.

    As a previous long time kitchen worker at outback (and the best bloom maker at each of the outbacks i worked at), soaking the onion in cold water isnt just for helping it open, it also helps loosen it up making it easier to man handle while breading it without it break. It also helps the flour stick a little and get a better crust.

    That is a beauteous fried onion flower. I'm still working on the right ratio, and the best base ingredients, but one of my fav dipping sauces is a mix of mayo (more creamy, and not tangy), with a BBQ sauce (something without corn syrup, but still a bit sweet, along with some smokiness is good), and a smidgen of Lawry's. Are you gonna hang on to this appliance?

  • @15743_Hertz

    A separate pretreatment of ice water and then cornstarch before you begin the flour mix helps as well. It's the secret to the batter sticking better to normal onion rings as well.

    We have been cleaning up things here at home and came across the 'blooming onion' thing like you have. We used it one time and that was enough.
    From now on we head to Out Back Steakhouse and order one. They have the big pot of oil to cook it in and no cleanup on our part.
    Frying this onion is like making a full blown Chinese dinner from scratch. When you are finished you are too tired to eat !
    We gave our 'blooming onion' thing to some friends to use. I hope they have better luck than we did.

    Buttermilk is just off milk isn't it? We don't have it in the UK much so we make it by adding vinegar to milk making it go sour fast! That onion looks so delicious!

    • @ingriddubbel8468
      @ingriddubbel8468 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No its more like keifer (sp?) milk.

    • @Rik77
      @Rik77 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ingriddubbel8468 oh yes that is similar. But I think that's more like a different form of buttermilk called "cultured buttermilk". The basic buttermilk in US shops I think is just an acidic soured milk. I don't think they sell true buttermilk much. So any acid added to milk and left for 20mins should give you something very similar that you use to replace buttermilk in recipes. Saves buying a carton of it.

    • @nevesdarocha

      Buttermilk is the milk that is left over from butter making. It's naturally fat free and slightly tangy.

      It's so good~ It's slightly sweet, tangy, creamy and it's got a kick. Louisiana hot sauce is hard to find where I live (Australia) we can only get it from one restaurant and it costs a small fortune lol. So if anyone can't find Louisiana hot sauce, any hot sauce (eg. Cholula) will work. Except Tobasco.. That didn't go well.

    As a kid one of my grandfather's favorite snacks was cornbread or white bread and buttermilk. He made look so delicious! So one day I asked him if I could try it. He said you aren't going to like it but you can if you want. Needless to say it wasn't my fave! My sister as well liked white bread and milk, salt and pepper. Not my fave either. I don't know if this is a southern thing or if other people do this in other regions. But I would love to see you give it a try as simple as it is.
    Ingredients:
    Buttermilk (cold or warm)
    Cornbread
    Salt
    Pepper
    Or
    White bread
    Milk(cold)
