    9:39 an iconic presentation moment. Alexander the Great is known as a mightly military commander but the prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is belittled as warlord even though they both did basically the same thing! Paul pulling that tweet up was a such classy move.

    • @MPERTER
      @MPERTER 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I understand what you're trying to say, but saying that The Prophet and Alexander "did basically the same thing" is abominable, and disrespectful to the Prophet. Alexander wasn't a "good guy," and war atrocities were committed in his reign.

    • @aq4356
      @aq4356 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@MPERTER Plus, Alexander the Great wanted to conquer the world out of greed and power, Muhammad alayhi salaatu wa salaam did not believe in wars for material gain, rather, everything was for that the words of Allah would be supreme, and his companions followed that, that's why they didn't divide into seperate states and fought each other, the same cannot be said for the companions of Alexander, who also held the same ambition, their master had.

    • @MPERTER
      @MPERTER 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@aq4356 More precisely, he did it for fame first, while power and greed weren't his main objectives. He idolized Achilles, and wanted to engrave his name in history just like him, something that Islam abhors more than greed, which is vanity and ostentatiousness.

    Paul,
    You must provide these lectures back in the UK as live seminars for the Muslims here.
    We desperately need this knowledge so we know the landscape we are operating in.
    You come with a certain package which makes this even more appealing, white, westerner, ex-Christian, philosopher etc. the only other person I can think of like this is Timothy Winters

    I am surprised at the people who are surprised by Br Paul being good at public speaking 🤷‍♂️. What do you think he has been doing all along in his TH-cam channel ?! If you say it's a different mode of delivery, I would say there are many common elements in the interviewing and public speaking. You should have noticed the dizzying eloquence and fluency of br Paul in his interviews. He many times very succinctly and eloquently summarized long chain of ideas of his guests. So, it shows his command of English as well as systematic thinking in delivering complex ideas. Thank you br Paul, it was very enlightening compact lecture.

    Great lecture, Brother Paul.
    10:47 I really like that point, that Alexander is looked on relatively positively in the West, but Muhammad (Saliyahu Alahi Wa Salaam) and his successors are viewed negatively as some kind of intolerant warlords...and yet, ancient religions, cultures, and even (in many cases) ancient languages still exist to this day in areas conquered by the Islamic Empire. Yet Alexander and his successors (especially people like Antiochus Epiphanes, who's deeds against the Jewish people are found in the Catholic Deuterocanonical books/Protestant Apocrypha) were brutal in their assimilation of other peoples.
    The double standard is really apparent when the Muslims are viewed as "occupiers" of Spain for the entire time they were there--800 years, a time three times as long as the United States has been in existence. Or how the Turks are viewed as "occupying" the Hagia Sophia when they've been there since before Columbus sailed. Turning to the west, the Israeli state hasn't been in East Jerusalem more than 55 years, but dare not call them "Occupiers"...and you'd never say the United States "occupies" its current geography, even though we've only existed as a nation for 1/3 of the time the Muslims were in Spain.
    This is especially egregious when you consider that the Muslim rule in Spain was demonstrably more tolerant, intellectual, technologically advanced and materially successful than what came before it and what came after it. In addition, the same Spanish state that kicked out all Muslims and Jews also began a horrible exploitation of the Americas in their lust spreading their Catholic faith, acquiring gold, and bringing personal glory to the conquerors.

    Just a couple of observations pertaining to Raphael’s fresco:
    1- Socrates is there in the fresco in profile - the guy standing in greenish clothes in the top center left.
    2- it’s Ibn Rushd (Averroes) rather than Ibn Sina who is depicted in the lower left.
    Of course a number (some) of the people identified in the fresco are educated guesses by scholars as compared to others who are identified by the books etc they carry or by their actions etc.
    But terrific presentation as always!

    Great stuff, I like to see that you are up on the stage. But some constructive criticism if I may:
    Try to eliminate the vocal fillers from your speeches/lectures. Pausing is fine, the audience does not care that you fill in the space. And I'm sure you know by now that having moments of pause and silence in the speech is actually powerful and REQUIRED for a great speech/lecture. Take care brothaman.
    Seeing as it's your entrance into the lecturing scene it will be a learning process just like everything in life for all of us. We can all always improve in whatever we're doing.
