Have you or any of your viewers used or heard of a prop made by Indigo for Catalina 27's with an atomic 4. My 1983 27 has a 2 blade 12" rhythm 7 and I have trouble going upwind with the engine. The Indigo prop is a 3 blade 10" x7 and I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on them. Like your channel.
    Thanks

Hey, the atomic four gasoline engine was fitted to many 27’s from the factory in California. I’ve never personally seen one that was actually running. However they did work and should have plenty of power to push the 27 along into moderate headwinds. I would call Catalina in Florida and speak with their service department, after I searched the web for information and specs. Mine has the diesel m18 and diesels are quite low reviving with a completely different torque curve and that makes the prop selection way different. Sorry I can’t be of more help but the information is out there.
Here is the one I would try first, the price is far less than a bronze prop and CatalinaDirect know these boats better than anyone.

@@Catalina27 I have the M18 with standard 2 blade prop in my '86 C27 tall rig. Never been a problem even in steep chop and wind. I just finished a week on the Chesapeake, average speed 4kt under power at 1500rpm. Prior to the trip I installed the alternator upgrade from Catalina Direct, replaced the ammeter with the volt meter, and eliminated the wiring through the two "trailer" connections. I have much better battery charging now. I could run the cabin fan all night, anchor and cabin lights, and still start the motor without adding in the second battery. I found a leak in the hose from the cockpit drain to the thru-hull which is submerged when under power. It filled the bilge and the pump would pump it out, only to be refilled by siphon action of the bilge drain being below the water when under power. I am going to add a siphone break at the top of the hose.
