I really miss Paul. I watched him every week and wondered where he went. I think HGTV made a really bad decision cancelling his show. How many flipping/realtor shows can we watch!! Gardening is so popular and no one does a more entertaining, informative show that Paul James!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE as noted in the posts below, let Paul Know so many people love him and have tremendous gratitude for his energy and passion shared with all of us. another year or two, my retirement begins and it is focused on a small market garden, my love of fly fishing, and Tai Chi - He was the final "straw" that allowed me to pursue becoming a Master Gardener and merge my love of hands on connection with Nature (including tree to furniture woodworking) with every day of my life. ❤
Joe, you literally made my day, heck my whole week - having Paul James on your program. He was a Saturday morning fixture in our home for MANY years ! I truly loved this sweet teddy bear of a man - who wouldn't ? The wealth of knowledge he shared with the world is priceless ! I rarely watch a video that brings tears to my eyes, but this one did ~ THANK YOU !!!
Thank you, Ellen. Paul was a fixture in my house too. He's a very smart guy and is constantly reading! So fun to have him all to myself for a few days. Glad he let us share our time together with the world. Thanks for writing.
He was a fixture in our house too. My wife was the gardener but Paul James drew me in. Seeing him here was like seeing an old friend from years ago. Thank you. I hope Paul sees these comments so he knows how much he meant to people.

When HGTV stopped showing your show, Paul... that was pretty much the end of my watching HGTV. Your show taught both me and my husband so much about gardening... and emboldened us to take our two acre plot and turn it into our two acre dream. But thankfully I can still see you on TH-cam.
Gosh I’ve missed Paul James. Thx for bringing him back. His shows really influenced me in my early gardening career. I didn’t have the familial history of some but some of my earliest memories are of flower beds so it truly has been a lifelong interest.

Thank you for guiding so many of us in our gardening journeys, you are a treasure! Now, can we get the two of you to do more shows together? Such great chemistry between you two!
Wow! It is fabulous to see Paul James talking about gardening. I think I saw every "Gardening by the Yard" episode. The lack of educational garden shows on TV is one of reason I do not have cable TV any more, so long as I can watch You Tube gardening like"Growing a Greener World" I will continue to go without the fluff when it comes to not having quality content.
Good feedback, Terri. So unfortunate but interesting to know that TH-cam is filling the void and rapidly becoming a replacement for broadcast television for finding the shows we want to watch. Thanks for your comment.
It was SO GREAT to see Paul on television in the garden again! I was a dedicated follower of Paul The Gardener Guy! Really miss watching him! Thank you.
Thistlesmom - Little Sister , thanks for sending me this video. Just got home a while ago & hadn't had time to check my email videos. This literally brought tears to my eyes ! Paul James' gardening show was a long time Saturday morning tradition for Roger & I for many years. Roger walked in the room right after I started watching this & I said, "Look whose on here !" His face lit up & sat there just grinning as he watched it !
Soooo Loved this episode Thank you watched Paul for years.. Grateful you are on TH-cam watched you as well!!💌🌹HGTV has lost me as a viewer since there is nothing about the G in there name..I am a gardener not a house flipper😳 I am on a plethera of British Gardening TH-camrs so grateful for you in our U.S.A.💌
Thank you, Anna! I'm happy to share what I know on TH-cam too. It's a great resource, that's for sure. But I'm with you about the G in HGTV. Not so much of that anymore. Thanks for your message.
What a great episode! It was so nice to see Paul James again. I spent many hours watching and learning from both the old Victory Garden shows and then The Gardener Guy. It was great to see someone with a true passion for gardening sharing and laughing with us! Thanks Joe!
Late to the party here, but I will say the same thing. Old school Victory Garden was a weekend staple growing up and Gardening by the Yard was watched as an adult. Growing a Greener World carries the torch quite nicely. We definitely need more gardening shows and less of the home "reality" shows.
Growing a Greener World is always a great show and this is now my favorite episode. So much humble, down to earth wisdom from the two of you. It was very touching when Paul told you it was an honor to be on your show in your garden and how proud he is of you. It brought a tear to my eye.
Like a torch being passed. Thank you for this episode. Grew up watching him and so happy to see my “then” and “now” coming together. You are both awesome ambassadors of the art of gardening.
loved Pauls show .My mothers father inlaw was Bob Thomson from PBS show The Victory Garden we need these shows . And of course Growing a greener world is great too :)
I also loved Paul James The Gardener Guy show, and miss it very much. So how about it Paul do it on You Tube your own videos, and I know I will follow you as I love what you teach us about gardening, so get your phone or camera out and do some episodes..........! Thank you Joe for featuring Paul James on your show, like someone else said it wasn't long enough, but a fabulous show indeed. Look forward to seeing you really soon on here Paul.....!
I remember watching him with my father on HGTV. It was on Saturday mornings and after it was over my dad and I would head out to our garden. I learned organic gardening from my father and Paul James. I was so happy to see him again. He always made mt dad and I laugh. It was great to laugh at his sense of humor again. 😄
A priceless episode! Your excitement in spending time with Paul James was palpable and I think I smiled all the way through:) After that last comment of Paul's, I wish I could have heard all the off camera conversations! So happy for you & so grateful to both of you for being SHINING examples of the wonderful world of everything gardening! Thank you so very much!
I wish we could have had the mics recording all the time too. But if you want to hear more, be sure to listen to the podcast episodes I did with Paul, including one on the last day of this filming. The links are here: www.growingagreenerworld.com/episode-1006-catching-up-with-tv-garden-legend-paul-james/
Thank God for Paul. He was so easy to learn from when HGTV started out. I wouldn't be the gardener (and teacher of gardening) without his influence. HGTV never recovered from the loss of his show in my opinion. Thank God for Joe who is such a pleasure to watch. You definitely reminded me of Paul and now I know why. I love you both so much and I'm so thankful for this segment. That comment about gardening is inspired by memories made me cry! My real dad, who left us when I was 4, had a huge vegetable garden. I was my happiest in that garden. I guess I never connected the two. TH-cam is my new Garden Network. ❤🌼🌱 Good to see you again, Paul. Thanks for your wonderful show, Joe.
I so miss Paul....thanks for doing a segment on him!!! Him and Elliot were my super heroes when I was learning to garden. Back when H"G" Tv actually had "G" shows. I Love your work on Growing a Greener World and keeping the tradition alive.
Paul my wife and I have missed you and your show tremendously never missed an episode or the rose parade. HGTV really took a dump when they moved from the real world to the world of drama.
What a fabulous video. So happy to see James. I totally agree I don't know why they cancelled the show. I cancelled HGTV right after that and have never returned. Thanks for some great ideas and I will look into BS too. Thanks Joe! ps love the last little bit Paul said lol.
Gardening by the Yard was where I began thinking I could garden! I could do that! So, Paul James was the one who got me started gardening. And Growing a Greener World helped me wanting to try different things. Thank you, Joe, for bringing Paul into Growing a Greener World. Awesome! 🙂
I loved (I mean really loved) watching Paul's shows! I was very disappointed when they stopped back then. He was always so funny & entertaining, all while teaching so much about gardening. I learned so much from him! Thank you so much for having him on this show, I'm sure you made many people's day (including mine!)!
My pleasure. It was a wonderful experience and I honored that Paul gave me that first opportunity to bring him back in front of the camera. It's been too long for sure!
HGTV needs to take the G out of their name. I don’t watch their channel anymore due to the lack of gardening shows. Gardening by the yard was my favorite gardening show. I glad there are gardening shows like Growing a greener world still around.
OMG, just loved seeing Paul again. Loved this episode. Joe, you are helping to carry the torch forward! From another old grey haired mustached gardener guy. :)
This reminded me of why I fell in love with him on the victory garden and gardening by the yard. He’s so right, enjoy the garden. A true gem. I so miss him. I watch the old shows. I wanted to be a master gardener but the program was full in those days, I think it’s because he created a passion in all of us. One that never died for me.
Another great episode Joe! From the old Garden Smart episodes to Paul James The Gardening Guy! All you need now is Rebecca from Rebecca's Garden. Let's get those hands dirty!
Great show Joe and Paul. I loved Paul's show on HGTV but sadly HGTV is now focused only on the young who hire all their work done. I watch very little on HGTV now but I don't think there are any garden shows. Joe, I love your programs. Linda
WOW.What a GREAT EPISODE this was.It would be GREAT to pick Yours and Pauls brains for gardening info. You need to do more episodes with Paul and podcast. Were we can ask questions.I put this episode tied with The Bronx Machine. The two BEST episodes.
Oh gosh I remember watching Paul’s show, loved it...he’s so funny and knows his stuff! When he spoke about you, I could see you both getting choked up, I just lost it! You guys are the best and thanks Paul you still tickle me🤣😆❤️
A year later, but I thank you for talking with Paul James. I learned so very much about gardening by watching "The Garden Guy." Over the years HGTV has canceled so many good and great gardening programs. Thankfully knowledge learned can be eternal. We are fortunate for programs like "The Garden Guy" and "Growing a Greener World," and for the people who love sharing gardening information that is tried and true. Thank You!!!
Joe thank you so much for having the great Paul James as a guest on your show. My wife and I were avid fans of his garden by the yard show and I used to watch him when he switched over to TH-cam for a while when he had his own website. Many fond memories of Sunday mornings with coffee learning how to become an organic Gardener for my home. I have even corresponded with Paul and he actually help me with moving a large shrub in my backyard which is still in pristine condition thanks to his great advice. I always check every once in awhile to see what Paul James is up to and I was so surprised to see he was on your show. So not only did I get a treat watching Paul as if it was just yesterday I also became a subscriber to your channel thanks and keep up the great work.
Greetings Joe from Surry county, NC. I thoroughly enjoyed the video. My wife and I never missed an episode of Paul's. It brought back many memories. Thank you for inviting Paul to your beautiful garden and taking the time to produce the video. Y'all stay well and God bless.
Oh I just ❤ Paul James the Gardener Guy! Sadly, I had totally forgot about him until watching this video 🤦♀️ You brought back all my memories of watching his show before I ever had a garden...he was always so much fun to watch! I thank we need to start a petition to bring him back! The 2 of you collaborating on a show would be beyond awesome!!!!!!!👩🌾
I know this is an old video, but I had to comment. Thank you. Thank you to you Joe and thank you to Paul. This was such a great and fun video to find. My mom and I were huge fans of Paul back in the day and still miss the show to this day. It was really nice to see him again. ❤🥔
What a truly wonderful show of two of my favorite gardeners in the entire world kudos to both you I have all the same traits that you both have and I've been organic gardening for 35 years and will continue to do so All the best my friends 🙏😬🙏
So glad you enjoyed this episode. That was one of my favorite filming trips. Craig is a dear friend and we had so much fun shooting that one. Thanks for the kind words and keep up the good work with your organic gardening. 👍
I cannot adequately tell you how happy this episode made me! I started gardening in the early years of my marriage ...a city girl transplanted to a crossroad 4 way stop unincorporated town in rural western Kansas. Our property had a long established 40x60 garden. And I actually thought I could manage it with no experience. And we had no cable tv. Then along came dish tv and my intro to hgtv where Paul James ruled the yard and garden. I learned so much from Paul - most importantly to have fun and chalk all experiences up to learning and improving. Your admiration of Paul and admission of how much he has inspired you just made me like you and your efforts even more than I already did. Btw, I’ve caught Paul on some episodes of Oklahoma Gardening here on TH-cam! (Another great and informative program!)
You looked star struck looking at Paul. I wouldn't have been able to speak to him. Thank you for getting him to come on your show. Your garden looks so neat.
I'm a little late watching this but I so enjoyed this episode with Paul James. I used to watch him every week and sure miss him on HGTV! I agree with him when he said "there aren't enough gardening shows on TV". I quit watching the New Year's Day Rose Parade on HGTV when Paul James left, he was one of the bests hosts ever. Glad you had him as a guest on your show/garden, thank you!
I am finally catching up with missed episodes on utube and this is by far one of my absolute favorite! Thank you for this great opportunity to see both of my favorite gardeners and wonderful words of wisdom.
Let Paul know he is still making fans. Now that all the episodes of Gardening by the Yard are on Discovery +, I have watched and periodically rewatch his show. Even my 6 year old gets excited when i have it on. Inspiring and educating current and future gardeners.
Oh my goodness!! I loved watching him when I was younger!! Thank you for having him on... like I needed another reason to watch your channel. I've learned so much from both of you. I hope you have an amazing day and weekend.
Loved Paul James show on HGTV! Totally don’t understand HGTV decision to not have gardening shows. They are missing out! happy to have found this episode. Thankfully gardening is abundant on you-tube.
I agree!! He was the best. Is there a way to access his old episodes?? I only discovered him the last few seasons. I learned so much and always laughed. By the way, us "older" tv watchers are the ones with more disposable income. Why target millennials. They are up to their eyeballs in debt. So much for smart marketing on the part of TV executives. Great advise about just enjoying observing the garden.
I sure miss Paul. It’s crazy that the Home and Gardening TV channel has very little to no gardening these days. They need to rename it to the house channel.
My husband and I used to always what Paul James's show. We really miss great gardening shows. HGTV really shot themselves with the cancelling of so many gardening show. I am so glad that many good garden shows can be found on youtube and sometimes facebook. I wish Paul James would be more shows. We for sure would tune in.
PAUL JAMES!! This brought me several emotions! The JOY of seeing him again! The FRUSTRATION that THEY took him off! Then, SADNESS, when will we ever get to see him again?! Thank you! Could you talk to him about maybe doing a TH-cam channel??? GOD bless you and Him!
“We garden to live a memory” WOW. I really loved this episode. Paul James is a national treasure!!
@ Kelli Martin u made me laugh, we both used the same phrase calling Paul James a national treasure
Yes he is
I really miss Paul. I watched him every week and wondered where he went. I think HGTV made a really bad decision cancelling his show. How many flipping/realtor shows can we watch!! Gardening is so popular and no one does a more entertaining, informative show that Paul James!!
I did too...and Totally Agree!!!
SO SOTRUE
patti sonnentag: I always thought that too, HGTV has changed so much, the old shows were fun including Paul's.
patti sonnentag maybe they will bring it back soon since gardening has become so popular during this pandemic.
I don't even watch HGTV any more. They left out the Garden part. Should be HTV.
I used to get up early on the weekend to see his show on HGTV. It was so great. Good honest and wholesome TV. He was like the Bob Ross in a garden.
I appreciate you Paul James GOD BLESS YOU 🙏
Joe, you literally made my day, heck my whole week - having Paul James on your program. He was a Saturday morning fixture in our home for MANY years ! @@iveslewis108 , ME TOO !!!
I loved the part where he said “People garden to bring back a memory”. It’s true! And I hope that my kids will garden when they are older.

Really enjoyed the show today I loved gardening by the yard and Paul James 👍🐓🌻🦇
I love Paul James, and he’s right we need more Gardening shows!
Two of my favorite gardening guys!!!😊🤣❤
Nice! Thank you.
I know this is an old video, but I had to comment. Thank you. Thank you to you Joe and thank you to Paul. This was such a great and fun video to find. My mom and I were huge fans of Paul back in the day and still miss the show to this day. It was really nice to see him again. ❤🥔
Glad you enjoyed it! I did too. That was a fun one to shoot. Thanks for the good words. 👍
Oh how wonderful to see and listen to Paul James. I greatly miss him and his show on HGTV ( missing lots of good shows on HGTV). An excellent video!
Mr. James you are an inspiration for many gardeners.
I wish there were still gardening shows. I always watched you Paul. Thank you for all gardening adventures and advice!
My two most influential garden mentors! This is probably the 5th time I’ve watched this. Love it every time.
I always enjoyed watching "Gardening by the Yard". I'm glad to see Paul is doing well. Thank you.
Awe my 2 Favorite Gardeners in one place!? Perfection! Thanks Joe! Thanks Paul!
THANK YOU for this nostalgic episode!
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching, Michele.
great show Joe,
Thanks, Nancy!
I am finally catching up with missed episodes on utube and this is by far one of my absolute favorite! Thank you for this great opportunity to see both of my favorite gardeners and wonderful words of wisdom.
What a great episode! You two gurus are totally awsum together!!
Thanks, Rita!
Let Paul know he is still making fans. Now that all the episodes of Gardening by the Yard are on Discovery +, I have watched and periodically rewatch his show. Even my 6 year old gets excited when i have it on. Inspiring and educating current and future gardeners.
This video was pure joy! Thank you!!!
Oh my goodness!! I loved watching him when I was younger!! Thank you for having him on... like I needed another reason to watch your channel. I've learned so much from both of you. I hope you have an amazing day and weekend.
Awesome episode.
Great show. Great friends
Wow. What a treat. 🥰 I’ve loved watching Paul James for years. Great to see the two of you together. Amazing!
Thanks, Irene!
Loved Paul James show on HGTV! Totally don’t understand HGTV decision to not have gardening shows. They are missing out! happy to have found this episode. Thankfully gardening is abundant on you-tube.
Amen Paul! So good to hear from you, miss your!
My kids were young when I watched Paul and I really miss him.🧡💛💚
I sure miss Paul. It’s crazy that the Home and Gardening TV channel has very little to no gardening these days. They need to rename it to the house channel.
Paul James is another of my mentors and he never knew it. I watch old episodes on Discovery+ very often. What a guy!
My first time meeting this lovely man... I wanna watch his shows! Thank you for the making of this video
Nice to see Paul!! What a treat. Thanks, Joe for a great episode.
I used to love watching Paul's show.
Excellent! I’m so glad to find this channel and hear Paul James again. I so miss his shows!
