I’d be suspect too. Usually people only call just to say “I love you” for two reasons:
1: They’re about to die in a plane crash
2: They’re about to do something pretty stupid
Which good parent wouldn’t be

If I was there, I'd call my Mom that I love her and I won't take the money... as Asian I'm not vocals on my parents how much I love them. It's awkward to say that.
