I'm middle eastern and hyper-masculine ideals are very common in our culture too. If I said it to my father, he probably would respond the same way. It's sad but we have to understand these men come from a different generation and should still love them even if they reject our expressions of love

The changes on their face when their parents say I love you back is amazing. You can tell both sides are not used to having each other say it, as it's not that common in most asian cultures. For the most part, love is shown through their actions instead of verbally, so seeing them react like this is precious.
I am from Azerbaijan. they did this experiment in my country too and almost all the parents first reaction was “Are you ok?”. Some cultures like to show affection and love instead of saying it. We all have different love languages, but it is beautiful to sometimes say it out loud.

Oh😞 why do you feel like that way? Parents are parents, they gave birth to you, wanted and accepted you and your life, they raised you, and even if sometimes (or maybe you felt a lot of times) they were angry or strict with you, that was just because they loved you and worried about you and wanted you the best. Believe me, I 'm a parent, too and I need to hear that I am loved by my children because that's a feedback that I didn't ruined everything and my kids could sense my love behind my attitude. I know it's easy for me to tell you to tell your parents you love them, yet I would say give it a try, it's worth it!😊❤️🙏🤞🤞

Man from the UK, we don't say I love you to parents either. I became a practicing christian after more than a year of deciding, introducing Christianity into my life slowly at a time, well I began with forgiveness and ended the fued between my father and I for two years during which time we didn't speak. Then I followed up with I love you to both my parents and it was an experience, the girl at the end, I can feel how the girl feels the moment she hears I love you from a parent who seldom, if ever, says it. When all you want is their approval, finding out you already have it without all the pressure you've put on yourself is heart breaking, but liberating at the same time. And not only christianity, but my now fiance, girlfriend at the time, she helped me even start to say I love you. Now I say it multiple times a day. I've always been cold but since meeting my girlfriend I've been able to form bonds with people around me.

This makes me really appreciate calls with my dad. I don’t think I grew up in a culture where we don’t express “I love you” but I like showing it in my actions and gestures while everyone around me is used to expressing their words. But due to a lot of personal experiences, I grew up having a difficult time expressing that. Now my dad always says I love you on the phone when we end our calls (he works far away) and I say the same, thank God I’m a more expressive person now when it comes to how I feel about those around me ❤
Showing love and saying out loud its both good. Some cultures show love by caring for others. I think only saying i love you its meaningless if used too much it will feel like its not sincere.
