Classic rock 101 It's great seeing younger generations experiencing this for the first time. this masterpiece NEVER gets old. Look forward to more great reactions and thanks
Thanks for taking the time to acknowledge this great band for it's contribution to rock and roll history. And you girl also have a killer smile and voice.
It's hard for me to believe this album hit the shelves over 48 years ago!!! Wow, so many memories. Make no mistake, this album was a shot in the arm for rock and roll, at a time when disco "was in" , and man did we appreciate it!
"Foreplay/Longtime" is one of the true masterpieces of rock music. One of rock's greatest moments is when the lead guitar comes belting out crisp and clear at the beginning of Longtime after the quiet build-up from Foreplay, All of Boston's album covers have the same space theme and tell a sort of continuing saga.
Thanks for reacting to this. I was 11 years old when this song came out in 1976. I had a very nice set of headphones I had gotten for my birthday that I hooked up to my stereo and would listen to my local rock station (WROQ in Charlotte) every night in bed just before I went to sleep. Pitch dark, eyes closed. It was magical. The night I heard this song when it was first released, I was mesmerized from start to finish. It was a journey, sounds I had never heard in a song. It was the first song I ever heard that made me say, “I HAVE to get that album tomorrow”. The next day, my mom took me to the mall and it was the first album I bought with my own money, lol. My friends, girlfriend, and I loved attending concerts when I was in high school/college. It was one of the things we loved doing together. My wife did the same thing during that time period as well. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I cannot describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young in the 70’s/80’s compared to today. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was much more carefree, and the music was spectacular. Our 4 adult children (29-33) love 70’s/80’s music just as we do. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.
RIP Brad Delp🎸🤘This album was a must have for any rock fans in the 70’s! It’s a classic, still relevant today!🎸🤘All the notes are produced by guitars and keyboards. Boston used no synthesizers in their music.
The image on the album cover is indeed a guitar, turned into a spaceship. Look closely and you will see the guitars. This album was recorded by artisans of the sound engineering, specially Tom Scholz, who spent a long time making the recording, he is an extraordinary music maker. he made this album on his own studio rejecting the company offer and demand on using the regular studio, because he felt that sound engineers didn't feel the music the way he wanted, and he was right. This is a jewel. You must listen to the whole album, because all the tracks are so well composed, balanced and produced.
Don't you love the sound of the electric guitar. What a great song to react to. Great vocal and song and a bright sound. Great analysis and as always great reaction.😊 Also, thank you for those Beautiful smiles of yours 😊❤
After a few painful years of the scourge of Disco, bands like Boston shone the beacon of hope that music was still alive and breaking through again. A perfect blend of Rock, Pop and Classical that was candy to my ears. Everywhere I went that Summer, this was the album being played. As a teenager, I could almost get Brad Delp's highest notes, but not quite. Even singing in a band years later and exercising my vocal chords on a nightly basis, I could never reach what he could do. I've always been in awe of the man's range and power. An amazing singer!
50 years later and new generations discovering the best music of all time! My kids tell me I am stuck in my bell bottom, 70's music of my past. I tell them when you have cooler looking pants and better music, let me know.
The guitarist (Tom Scholtz) was an electrical engineer and created the equipment for the Boston sound. Very unique, and a lot of 80's artist's ZZ Top, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, etc. used his Rockman brand gear.
@Trepanist Tom's degrees from MIT are both in mechanical engineering, and when Tom worked for Polaroid he worked as a product design engineer. It should be pointed out that there is no sound on this record that was produced from or went through a Rockman because the Rockman did not exist. The heart of the electric guitar sound on this record is a Marshall SLP tube amp that Tom modified, a graphic eq and a large variable resistor taken from a theater lighting system that Tom was using as a "power soak"
Tom Scholz is the founder, main songwriter, primary guitarist, keyboardist of the rock band Boston. Scholz is an MIT-trained engineer who designed and built his own recording studio in an apartment basement in the early 1970s. A fan of rock music throughout his teen years, Scholz began writing songs while earning his master's degree at MIT. The first Boston album was mostly recorded in his basement studio, primarily using devices he invented. After the success of Boston, he founded Scholz Research & Development, Inc. to develop and market his inventions, many under the Rockman brand. Scholz holds several patents related to his work at SR&D over the years. All this as well as being a very good musician and creative song writer. He was described by AllMusic as an "un-rock n' roll" figure who did not enjoy the limelight of being a performer, preferring to concentrate on music, production, and inventing new electronic equipment. When he recorded this, he was working at Polaroid Corporation as a senior product design engineer. Scholz had a keen interest in music and began recording demos in his home studio while working at Polaroid. He spent six years unsuccessfully submitting demos to record companies. Eventually the demos attracted the interest of Epic Records, who signed Scholz and singer Brad Delp to a recording contract. Scholz believed his demos were good enough for release as Boston's debut album, but Epic told Scholz to re-record the demos. Most of the guitar, bass, and keyboards were performed by Scholz, although other players were involved sporadically throughout the recordings, most notably drummer Jim Masdea. Epic did not want the album recorded entirely in Scholz's home as Scholz had intended (the label suggested using a recording studio), but most of what ended up on the album had indeed been recorded by Scholz in his basement.
Brad Delp did ALL of the vocals... Complete with 5 part harmonies ... Sometimes more.... Tom Sholz is a genius... He designed and built most of the electronics in the studio...literally ! He did Not play all the instruments. He did not invent auto-tune... Listen to the acapella version of more than a feeling...please.❤
@toneman501 Tom actually did not design and build the heart of the home studio that he used to make this record. Tom bought a used Scully 12 track tape machine and Tom bought a very basic console compared to what was being used in big name studios at the time. Boylan said that Tom used a Dan Flickinger. Tom said that the console he used was made by someone other than Flickinger. However, there is no doubt or debate that Tom did not design or build the heart of the studio that he used to make this record.
As a musician myself, I really love that aspect of your reaction and comments.❤❤ This first Boston album is regarded as one of the greatest debut albums in Rock history. I have seen a lot of reactors just work their way through it song by song, because the track sequencing is really good on it as well. You could skip over the two that you've already done when you get to them or just react to them again now that you can absorb more details. "Gonna Hitch A Ride" is a huge hit for them, and based upon what I've seen so far, I bet you would really like it, and I bet it would make for a great reaction.
Thank you very much for reacting to this song Aaliyah - and thank even more for choosing the studio version, it is much better. My confession: I have looked at this cover for many years and, like you, saw some kind of spaceship. Only a couple of months ago someone pointed out to me that it is an upturned guitar 😇😇
Your pure joy made me feel so happy… as an old family guy you are the daughter that parents dream of and be so so proud of…. Boston is incredible and your musical knowledge and experience really was enlightening… loved it!
Great reaction and analysis Aaliyah! Our world has so many varieties & styles of music and has featured countless talented composers, lyricists, musicians and vocalists! That being said, Boston is my favorite Band! And, of course, Brad's vocals are stellar! Thanks for doing this one - you can't go wrong with Boston!
Being the youngest of four, I grew up around different music. Bluegrass, country, classic rock. The first time hearing Boston, I was in my mother's gigantic Malibu in Marietta Georgia when More Than A Feeling hit the airwaves. Different sound and I've been a fan ever since.
Yes! Yes! Yes! OMG you get it! So few people really recognize and appreciate the transition. Your face said it all. 😊❤ Can you believe everything you’re hearing on this entire album is only 3 people? Brad Delp did vocals, Sib Hasian played drums and Tom Scholz played everything else in a studio he built himself with more than a little equipment he designed and constructed by hand IN HIS BASEMENT. This is genuine genius. A masterpiece. And every single note played by hand. ❤
@CuttinEJ Not quite. Foreplay features Fran on bass and Barry on all electric rhythm guitars. Long Time features Barry on all electric rhythm guitars, all lead guitar solos and the huge power chords. Rock and Roll Band features Jim Masdea on drums. Let Me Take You Home which was written by Brad features teh entire band as pictured on the back of the record with Brad also playing acoustic guitar Tom did not design or build the Scully 12 track one inch tape machine that he used to record instrument tracks for this record and Tom did not design or build the console/mixer that he used to record his tracks. Tom purchased the heart of the studio that he was using at this time.
@@CuttinEJ said, "in a studio he [Tom] built himself with more than a little equipment he designed and constructed by hand IN HIS BASEMENT" The heart of any analog studio is the console and the tape machine. So what exact studio equipment are you claiming Tom designed and constructed by hand if he did not design and construct the core of his studio? Your expression "more than a little" literately means that a large portion of Toms recording studio equipment was designed and made by Tom. So back up what you are claiming Tom made and give the details.
@, you’re embarrassing yourself. Part of building a studio is an acquiring and assembling the core components (properly). And then if they won’t quite do what you want, and if you’re an MIT genius (among other things) you modify some of those components. When that’s still not quite what you want, you invent something new. Maybe you’ve heard of the Rockman? I doubt it. If you had, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. It’s just the prototype of every effects pedal in the world today. And that’s not his only invention. Google some of the interviews he’s given and you can listen to him explain it. Not my job to educate you.
Every song from this album was played on the radio almost daily (still are on classic rock stations), even this song as long as it is was played constantly. "Rock and Roll Band" is a great straight ahead rocker, "Something About You" has more incredible vocal harmonies and if you want more light and shade with beautiful call and response guitar solos check out "Hitch a Ride", great analysis and reaction!
It’s always great to see that songs like this still have that impact on new listeners. Getting to watch you experience that with such joy is like a rediscovery for us Long Timers. 👍
Love your reaction to this song. This album is amazing. I'm a musician & play a style that fits in another genre. But Boston definitely had an influence on me at a really young age. By the way, that "spaceship" is actually an upside-down guitar ;) Thanks for your review & reaction to this. Keep it up! :)
11:49 I didn't think that the resounding opening of Long Time could be bested but it's even more energetic the 2nd time here. I'm not sure any other song does this.
One thing I always loved about Boston is Brad's vocals are so high it melds right into Tom's Guitar solos! Love your reactions Aaliyah! So glad you are sharing your experiences with your fellow musicians! Expanding their knowledge base of different kinds of music!
Yeah, Boston music will always make you feel good. It is the magic of their music. They always put a smile on my face. I am a bass player. When I was a kid and just starting to develop my own 'style', I discovered Tom Sholz. His bass playing is amazing! I would play along with Boston records and try to play like him. You cannot go wrong learning from a master. 😁
Boston masterfully blended the intricate, progressive rock stylings of Emerson, Lake & Palmer with the harder-edged, arena-rock energy of '70s icons like Heart and Cheap Trick, creating a sophisticated and explosively dynamic sound.
If you want to hear another incredible singer, I'd highly recommend "Stryper". The lead singer is Michael Sweet and I think you'll be amazed by his tone and his range. 😁
Great reaction Sista! I'm still waiting for you to get around to listening to some Stryper like you told me in a response to one of my comments almost a year ago. GB I'll be waiting.
I was like 18 when their first album came out. We had to wait basically a whole year for the second album. It was NOT a disappointment. I loved literally every song on both albums. They were unique and awesome. When a new song came on the radio back then, you knew what band it was❤
Aaliyah, great reaction to one of my favorite bands of all time. Brad Delp's vocals were second to none. While this song and album was mostly produced by Tom Scholz playing all instruments with the exception of the drums, there were also great musicians in the band over the years. Living on the North Shore of Boston, I have been fortunate to be able to see guitarist Barry Goudreau perform many times over the years. His work in RTZ and songs with Brad Delp like Dreams and Rockin' Away are amazing.
Hi Aaliyah, was in the 7th grade when this came out and not knowing how ground breaking it was and is to this day, Tom’s technical prowess front and center, Brad’s vocal’s are iconic and we were living on 4 TV channels that went off at 1am most nights and lived on the radio and the DJ’s the put there own spin on the music we listened to and cherished....Thanks for your sincere reactions and many blessings always.....sorry so long....
Young lady. I sing and play. I watch other reviews. With that being said, it is always so nice to here you express your thoughts. Your training has given you a keen ear and you pick out points that the untrained singer, may not. You also very kind and positive. You were taught and show grace. Your parents should be proud. I enjoy you reviews. Blessings.
This is one of the few songs ever produced where the lead vocals and backing vocals were performed by the same person. Tom Scholz was a phenomenal sound engineer and he even invented some of the equipment used to produce this and other Boston studio tracks! You hear the song as if it was recorded by a band but mostly it was Tom and Brad and a whole bunch of overdubbing in Tom's basement sound studio.
Aaliyah, please listen to Boston's "Man I'll never be " This is one of Brad Delp's best vocal performances. I know you will love it. Choose the full length album version of this song. Colin from Scotland. P.S.. love your cheery personality ❤

Alex Lifeson perfectly summed up the RRHOF during his acceptance speech into it. Anyone who hasn't seen it should check it out.
That's a great list of band names there for sure!
The RNRHOF hates Rock and Roll. If you're a leftist radical you're guaranteed to get in
An Aaliyah reaction vid is always a cheerful experience for me!
If I smiled that much, my face would crack into pieces and fall off...(keep that smile, Aaliyah!).
The chord progressions and keyboard work in the "Foreplay" part always make me think of Bach and Buxtehude.
SO so many people glance at the album cover and see space ships....but...if you look closely, they are stylized quitars with flames
And city skylines in the topside domes.
They're spaceships shaped like guitars.
They are actually Ovation guitars, round back fiberglass material.
The segue from Foreplay to Long Time is one of the best and most powerful passages rock has ever produced.
Killer smile! I love young people enjoying music from my youth.

RIP Brad Delp🎸🤘This album was a must have for any rock fans in the 70’s! It’s a classic, still relevant today!🎸🤘All the notes are produced by guitars and keyboards. Boston used no synthesizers in their music.
I was a teen when this came out.,I played it so much it started to wear out!
A party staple in the late 70's! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
And the 80s
The image on the album cover is indeed a guitar, turned into a spaceship. Look closely and you will see the guitars.
This album was recorded by artisans of the sound engineering, specially Tom Scholz, who spent a long time making the recording, he is an extraordinary music maker. he made this album on his own studio rejecting the company offer and demand on using the regular studio, because he felt that sound engineers didn't feel the music the way he wanted, and he was right. This is a jewel. You must listen to the whole album, because all the tracks are so well composed, balanced and produced.
The spaceship is an electric guitar upside down. We was rock'in in the 80's.
Don't you love the sound of the electric guitar. What a great song to react to. Great vocal and song and a bright sound. Great analysis and as always great reaction.😊
Also, thank you for those Beautiful smiles of yours
😊❤
After a few painful years of the scourge of Disco, bands like Boston shone the beacon of hope that music was still alive and breaking through again. A perfect blend of Rock, Pop and Classical that was candy to my ears. Everywhere I went that Summer, this was the album being played. As a teenager, I could almost get Brad Delp's highest notes, but not quite. Even singing in a band years later and exercising my vocal chords on a nightly basis, I could never reach what he could do. I've always been in awe of the man's range and power. An amazing singer!
In 1976, we were blessed with this group called Boston and a masterpiece of an LP.
RIP Brad 💕👏
I'd love to hear this song for the first time again
When I'm driving and this comes on the radio I can't get out of the car until it's finished 😅🎸🎶
Aaliyah, you know you have one more iconic Boston song remaining- Peace of Mind. Not the end of their great songs, but one of the top 3....
The late great Brad delps voice was amazing.
I always said he used his college degree to it's fullest and magnificent potential.
Makes me feel like it’s my first time hearing this although that was Christmas 76’ damn where did time go? Rock on 🐾✌️🇺🇸
Brad Delp on all of the harmonies in Tom Scholz's studio. All guitars, keyboard, and bass are Tom Scholz, and drums on most songs as well.
At 48 yrs old this album has aged quite well. Wait til you really want to get down tonight and listen to Smokin.
The entire album, start to finish, is well worth the listen! No duds anywhere!!
I rocked this album nonstop when it came out.
As a musician myself, I really love that aspect of your reaction and comments.❤❤
This first Boston album is regarded as one of the greatest debut albums in Rock history.
Please react to More Than A Feeling and Peace of Mind. Brad sounds amazing in both of these songs.
She's done "More Than A Feeling." Agree it's "PEACE OF MIND" time.
Your pure joy made me feel so happy… as an old family guy you are the daughter that parents dream of and be so so proud of…. Boston is incredible and your musical knowledge and experience really was enlightening… loved it!
It's so wonderful to see you enjoy the music that I grew up with back in the 1970s. God bless you always. ❤❤❤❤❤
First record I bought when I was 15 years old in 1979. Warms my my heart seeing you take on the history of rock music. Love from Sweden.
Love your reactions. Please react to Boston .. Piece of Mind. You’ll love it !
I always liked this album. Great music and great songs Good reaction
Let Me Take You Home which was written by Brad features teh entire band as pictured on the back of the record with Brad also playing acoustic guitar
Tom did not design or build the Scully 12 track one inch tape machine that he used to record instrument tracks for this record and Tom did not design or build the console/mixer that he used to record his tracks. Tom purchased the heart of the studio that he was using at this time.
@, not in the studio. Those guys didn’t become part of the band until after the album debut when they started touring.
@, and I never said he built the tape machine or the mixer.
@@CuttinEJ said, "in a studio he [Tom] built himself with more than a little equipment he designed and constructed by hand IN HIS BASEMENT"
The heart of any analog studio is the console and the tape machine.
What a sensational set! Brad had such an amazing register, and a kind soul, the nicest guy in rock, R.I.P. 🥰
Tom is a genius and Brad is magical. Best debut album ever IMO. Have you heard Rik Emmet from Triumph? Another great band and vocalist.
Brad Delp - one of the greatest male vocalists of all time - RIP Brad!
You’ll have allot of fun with Boston!
Good choice!
👌😎👍👉❤️🔥Your smile says it all! It makes me smile every time I see you react to such a great classic band!🙏 the whole album is amazing!❤
I love the look on your face as the two songs tie together. It's the same as mine years ago, first listening to it. Ah, the memories.
Michael sang lead with Boston for a while after Brad Delp passed away.
That's true too, I forgot about that. 😃@@trfatman
Great reaction Sista! I'm still waiting for you to get around to listening to some Stryper like you told me in a response to one of my comments almost a year ago. GB I'll be waiting.
Great reaction 🎉❤
Look at the cover art again. The spaceships are actually guitars.
For more “spacey” sounds try the band Rush’s “2112”.
"Smokin'", "Hitch a Ride", and "Peace of Mind" next!! 🔥🔥🔥
Nice reaction. The 'spaceships' on the cover of the album are upside down guitars as well.
Great reaction. 🤘
Wow what a great voice you have darling!
You've gotta hear Smokin by boston. The best instrument playing on the record.
Awesome song thanks for sharing
You do know that all of Brads vocals were recorded by Boylan at big name LA studios with Warren Dewey engineering all vocal tracks?
Aaliyah, please listen to Boston's "Man I'll never be " This is one of Brad Delp's best vocal performances. I know you will love it. Choose the full length album version of this song. Colin from Scotland. P.S.. love your cheery personality ❤
you are quite good at this! nice job.
Everything sounds so good
I graduated in 1979 was good times. Hope you enjoy I did.
