Nice...Thanks for the reminder with the update, just did mine wasn't to complicated, nerve wrecking...yes! The Radion control is a lot easier with the ecosmart, soo how much food can the cup take? ounces??? at least a weeks worth?
LOL, I'm not very good with computers, so I opted out. I watched and recorded how he did the update for the next time. The cup will hold a week easy! I'll more than likely need my babysitter to refill the food every couple of weeks when I'm gone.
I like some Neptune products, this one was a poor rushed design. I'll wait for their next generation feeder to hit the market. Thank you for the video.
+Alex Kingcole Thank Alex. On very few occasions, I have had to re-boot the feeder because it wasn't turning on at the designated time. So it's not completely flawless.
I honestly thought I would, but since Fusion is coming out all the technical stuff should a thing of the past. Things should get a whole lot less complicated, we'll have to see.
Thanks Dee. So far so good. I tested it out for a day and made some adjustments to the door that allows food to drop. I would recommend using same sized pellet in the food basket to ensure consistency with the amount of food that drops out. Using variety sized foods can make it inconsistent from one drop to another depending on if small pellets are up first or larger one are up first if that makes sense. I've only had it for a short time so I don't know about salt creep, but I don't expect any. Thanks for the post.
Not sure it was covered in the last few months but you need a remote access domain to connect when your away from your network and also possible a static ip. I've used dyn.com the past 3 years with no trouble.
Nice job, I like how you can power it on or off with your phone. Im thinking about an apex, in a yr or 2. Now you can use the Ehiem feeder for a future Nano system:)
***** Hey Gil, you must get one now! Your wife wants one, lol! Ive been eye balling a IM Nuvo 8g for the bedroom (serious problem). I saw one on MarineDepot for I think 199 with lights, but probably would dump the lights and get a Reefbreeders par38. Just saying!
It's going to come in handy for sure. I've been using it this week to "test" it out and to ensure it's not spilling too much food and making minor adjustments.
Well I just watched your video, I have to say it was a very nice review. Keep up the good work. I just replaced my S3 with a Note 3 and your comment about not being able to connect to your Apex outside your home got me curious, so I tried it, same thing I can't! I was fine yesterday when I had my old phone. Did you get a resolution on that yet from Neptune Systems?
I did read on their forum that I need to change wan address. I looked on my app settings and it's blank. When I get home tonight I'll fill it in and let you know tomorrow. How long until fusion is available?
Very nice. Usually if you lose connection with your apex from outside your home its because your internet service provider has changed you IP address. It happens randomly, but its not to hard to fix. I'm sure someone has a video on fixing it.... if not maybe you could do one!
I did a good job of making it look complicated, LOL. Eheim feeder works great too. I was just missing the control factor when I'm away from the system. When I leave the system, I set up a camera so I can see my tank on my phone or laptop. I can manually press the feed button and watch to make sure nothing is amiss as the Apex feeder does it's thing.
great video! and jeez it is really loud. i wonder if they are going to update it in the future for a more silent operation... but anyways it's great piece of mind for when you aren't home
Someone said it will be less loud once it breaks-in, but it's hard to imagine that LOL. It's their first batch of them, I'm sure they'll make them quieter in the future.
Port forwarding. The IP & specific port of the Apex, needs to be open to external access. This configuration is done via router config. I have 3 DA ReefKeeper Controllers and am able to access all three (not over obvious ports, such as port 80), from anywhere. I've assigned each controller to answer requests on a different port, so that when I make a request to my routers external IP & port number, the router knows where to send the request & answer. You're opening the firewall to the world and on this specific port, the only security is being handled by the controller, itself.
So I had the same problem with my phone I found out from apex that you have to get up a away and home on your phone. But now my phone works great. Home that was some help.
I regret purchasing the Neptune Auto Feeder. The design is flawed, especially when it comes to removing the container. The lid is the part you have to pull on to remove the container, which is a disaster waiting to happen. Every time I try to refill or clean it, the entire container tilts or jerks, inevitably spilling food everywhere-right into my tank! This poor design causes more mess and stress than convenience. It’s incredibly frustrating and completely defeats the purpose of an auto feeder. Save yourself the hassle and avoid this product.
+Kalvin One Kalvin, I'm not sponsored by any company. With that said, I am the last one to be considered "techy", but the Apex is a great controller and it is user friendly. Of course there is a learning curb, but I wouldn't run my system without it. I've used it for over two years and before that had the Reefkeeper, also a great controller. Not sure what you meant by "old school" is there something else out there that is more modernized?
+ReeferGil I just think that the buttons, the clicks, the way that the program works should be modernised and much more organised. The developers should forget the 80s and hire young employees... They will make everything much more efficient and easier to use. No script lines as nobody want to see them anymore = old school of before 80s.
+Kalvin One Okay, I think I understand. Like I said, I am ignorant of computer technology and writing codes. I have nothing to compare how the programming works on the Apex vs a more modern piece of technology. They use plain language to program the codes, so someone like me finds it easier to understand. But if there was a way to program the controller without writing codes then that would be great.
Great products. seems like you are celebrating christmas every day with gifts for your tank :P
That can really add some more peace of mind while your away. You weren't exaggerating with how loud that thing is
Not sure why all the bad reveiws this works great easy to set up. Love it
I have bad reviews? LOL
I agree it is a little flimsy but like you say I travel too and I can watch my fish eat I like it. what did you not like
nice piece of kit plus stability when your not there.
That's going to be the best part. Feeding at my convenience and watching them eat from afar!
great video! but what if the power goes out then your fish won't be fed or does it still feed them.

sick setup man. defiantly makes life easier and the hobbyist enjoy the hobby
nice video Gil, you should make an Apex Channel, you really know how to work them well!
I honestly thought I would, but since Fusion is coming out all the technical stuff should a thing of the past. Things should get a whole lot less complicated, we'll have to see.
Wow very nice gil!!! Show some more vidz on the tank!!!!
Great video. I had issues with feeders and salt creep. Also it sometimes dispensed to many pellets. How are to doing with it?

Yup, I use dyn also. Thank you for the comment!
I also have the same issue with my apex app only working when I'm on home network i think it's a port forwarding issue. Man that thing is loud!

***** NANO! NANO! NANO!

Great review! I've been wanting to order one of these for the same reasons

Mine worked also. Glad I could help.
Nice product, everything becoming automated, making reef keeping easy. I expected this coming from Apex it would be quieter.
Yeah, I was pretty surprised when I first heard one of these go off. It's a cow bell for fish though.
Great job. Nice bit of kit!!.

How does it compare to the Eheim feeder? Looks alittle complicated

Thank you so much for instructions!
+Burak Toygar No problem, thanks for the comment.
they are usb cables, I used a 3.0 A to A on mine no problem.
Neptune emphasizes not to use USB cables.
great video very cool gadget!!!!!
***** I am actually at a stand still right now. I dislocated my shoulder and am really having a hard to lifting.
What's up gill I'm finally up and running check it out
Will do!
Wow talk about a wake up call. That thing sounds like a tank roller by. Lol awesome video tho!
HAHA, it's freaking loud, we'll see if it "breaks-in".
So I had the same problem with my phone I found out from apex that you have to get up a away and home on your phone. But now my phone works great. Home that was some help.
I’ve heard so many bad things about this feeder
Really? I've used it for 7 years. Zero complaints.
I will never buy anything again from this Company they have horrible customer service
Of all the customer service i've experienced across the reefing industry, Neptune was my least favorite.
That's really weird. They've been really good to me. Maybe I got lucky or you unlucky.

Apex looks very old school... Awful and looks very userfriendly. Even to see the version... It s awful.
