Important message for all the peoples owning the R540L variant: your ram is actually soldered into the logic board. A second slot is available but it will not take more than 4gb of ram.
I just tried to upgrade my laptop with a 8gb memory stick and it isn't recognised by the system. Only the og 4gb are.

Just preceding watching this instruction video, I watch another person show how to replace the RAM, but he did not explain that one needed to removed the screws on the bottom. His camera did show the back but no mention of the screws and no demonstration of using a card or plastic tab to release the inner workings from the case frame. Good job here.
Good video, good image quality. Problems: before disassembling the motherboard, we proceed to disconnect all the data tapes and connectors, so that they are not damaged, and disassemble elements such as sd memories

I don't own this laptop anymore but as far as I remember the battery is replaceable.
Still a very useful reference video in 2019.. Also for the updated X540U.. Follow this video closely to avoid your laptop looking like a dog has been chewing on it.

I wanted to replace the thermal paste since the temps were too high...~85c while playing facebook games (65c idle) but the heatsink was melted in place, so it was a waste of time opening it.

There is only one RAM slot in this laptop. It supports up to 16gb. It really depends how much you wanna spend on it, but I would go with some better known brand just to have some piece of mind.

I think these series never had one. Asus is using a capacitor instead of a CMOS battery. It would get power from the main battery.

@@marktupaz5170 I don’t own this laptop anymore but as far as I remember the battery in this laptop is not removable. Of course if you replace the battery that can reset the bios.

You probably have to unsolder it. Why would you want to remove the charging port? To replace it?

Nope, as far as I remember it was soldered to the motherboard.

Hello. It's strange, I've bought my X540L one year ago, and I have a SSD 256Gb and I have no DVD ROM Drive. It doesn't match with this video.

I dont know if your taking questions for this disassembly, but on the back there are 10 screws, and there are 2 that are larger than the rest...can you tell me where they go please...
I think those are the back 2 middle ones. I don't own this laptop anymore sorry.
Is the wifi card upgradeable? I was looking to upgrade to a dual band but from the looks of this video it only looks like it has one antenna. And if by chance, do you have the wifi card model number? Thanks.
You can replace the WiFi card, i am not sure about dual band though. Unfortunately i don't own this laptop anymore.

If you can, try to insert your hard drive into another PC. See if you can find any errors with it.

There is only one slot for the RAM. Processor is not upgradable.
Nice video, but my battery now is not being recognized by the PC and is always in 0% and is plugged in to the motherboard. Any idea of what could be happening?

@@TechGadgetsMedia yes, I had a problem with the ventilation and i had to do it, but now my battery Is allways at 0% and my pc only last like 2 seconds before it shuts down when i unplug the power cable

Can you help me?, I want to change the dvd drive for a hard drive caddy. But I do not know if the DVD drive is 12.7mm or 9.5mm, and whether it is SATA or IDE

I have Asus X540LA-XX975. I just bought SSD and two 4GB ram sticks... Wanted to add additional ssd for storage and expand ram, but looks like too much husle... Can I have two ssd's?
If you can find the adapter for SSD's that goes in the DVD readers place than you can place a second SSD. As far as I remember this laptop only supports one stick of Ram

If you got the adapter then you should just place the SSD in that then remove the dvd player and put it in its place.

Yes you have to, and you need to clean the old paste off, then apply a rice size amount of thermal paste and put the heatsink back. Make sure you watch some other repaste tutorials as well if you are not sure.

hey, mate, ever heard of a killswitch feature when you open the case and the power is not plugged ? just opened my laptop to clean it and now it won't stay on when I unplug the cord...
No I haven't heard about that, maybe you damaged the battery cables?
Having the same problem with an X540L. Doesn't power on without power adapter anymore. Measured the pins with a multimeter and they are connected properly to the motherboard, but the voltage on the 12V is missing.

Hi. There is only one slot in this unit for RAM. The maximum it can handle is 16gb as far as I know.
Hi as it all depends on ur CPU and in this case the ram is upgradable to 16 go,ddr3l, the frequency is up to 1600ghz max.
Hi everyone, I recently upgraded the RAM and HDD on my X540LA. The only problem I caused or came across was apon restarting, the laptop shuts down immediately when using battery only, AC with battery in or out is fine, runs perfectly, remove the AC charger cable and the laptop shuts down immediately. Have switched batteries, done a pwr reset, removed the battery from Device Manager, all to no avail?? Any Thoughts or suggestions?? The only other thing I can mention is after the AC cable has been connected for awhile, it goes into a 1 seconcond on/off flash rythme, no cycle, just the on/off every second or so..
Hope you can help make sense of this and ssuggest where I may have gone array,

Having the same problem with X540LA. Everything is connected fine, but the battery doesn't produce 12V anymore, even though the cells are charged. Seems like the voltage regulator in the battery breaks if you disassemble the laptop. Great Asus!

Any 2.5" SSD would do the trick. I recommend at least 256gb depending on your usage obviously.

I don't know if there is any back light keyboard for this laptop. This one that you linked is for another asus laptop.

Nope, its only an Intel HD Graphics in this. But there are other models with dedicated video card.

You have to google the ram for the laptop, you will find loads. I have upgraded this laptop with a 2.5 ssd, there is no m.2 slot.

As far as I remember there is only one slot so 8gb max.
@@TechGadgetsMedia yesterday I updated my laptop . If cost me 7200 inr. It includes wd green ssd, 8gb adata ram, one external HDD case. Now my laptop has 12gb ram, it's speed improved remarkably. It take 13 sec to start after pressing the power button.

HI my x540l got spilt by water. Is it still fixable?
Well I saw a video where the laptop was left outside in the rain for hours but it was turned off. Eventually the guy took the laptop apart and had to dry every last inch of it but guess what after he reassembled it, it worked.

Yes you need to make sure the ribbon cables for the touchpad and keyboard are seated correctly in the connectors

It's not useless it's required. You can swap the RAM out with a bigger one.

You have GOT to adjust your intro and outro volumes to match the rest of the video. Had volume at max out of necessity because your voice was barely audible, to find myself deafened from your fucking outro!
It's a fucking awful laptop. Replacing the keyboard is a pain in the arse. A tip is, hot glue. To hold the new keyboard in place after being forced to break all the plastic tabs that hold the old keyboard in place.
