Elvin Bishop played rhythm guitar in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. For the best straight-up Blues you ever heard, try ' I've got a Mind to Give Up Living' . You'll never forget it: th-cam.com/video/KAHXVfqpm0I/w-d-xo.html
These days I am listening to Grace Potter, ZZ Ward, Larkin Poe, Lake Street Dive, and Samantha Fish. You can’t go wrong checking any of these artists out! Singer/Songwriters that play real music!
1975 they perform on the Midnight Special it's one of the best live performances I've ever seen the lead singer went crazy and sang this song and really showed out with his vocals
Great song. Elvin Bishop is the lead guitarist and band leader, the vocalist on this song is Mickey Thomas, who also sang with Jefferson Starship/Starship, and did at least one album of music as an individual performer.
They sound even better on the Midnight Special live instead of recorded. Mickey Thomas has an incredible vocal range. At the age of 80 he still sounds amazing. I love this song as much as i did as a teen in the 70s. ❤
Great song. Hard to believe its nearly 50 yrs old. Actually this is the great Mickey Thomas. Elvin played the mean guitar. Have no idea why it was done. Mickey later went to Jefferson Starship. Great voice! Love it.
Mickey Thomas is the singer for Elvin Bishop band. He also was lead singer in Starship, which was an offshoot of Jefferson Airplane, and was more hit oriented, IMHO!
Jus like the song Werewolves of London this was a "JOKE SONG" never meant to be released, Elvin was joking around at a party one night and sang the first half of this song just playing around, then when the Album label said he needed one more song to fill his album out Mickey, who had never sung lead, only back up, was like let me sing that song, so they gave him a shot, he said he made up the 2nd half of the song on the fly.
Awe! This brings back memories as this is me and my husband’s song! When he and I had just started dating in the early 90’s, we went with some friends to Panama City Beach and down the road from our rental was a bar on the beach called Sharky’s and the marquee said Micky Thomas was going to be there with his band, so on our last night we went with our group to check it out. Turns out it was his hometown and he was performing for friends and family and it was an absolutely awesome performance! This is one of the songs he sang and he just killed it and that’s how it became our song. ❤ Good times!
One of my favorite songs from the 70s growing up. I bought the 45 RPM single of it. But if you really want to sing how badass this guy is as a singer in rock music but the singer with soul, check out the song Jane with Jefferson Starship, it will blow your mind. And the whole band is just so fantastic.
I was in Lake Tahoe at a blackjack table. Maybe around 2005. On my left was Mickey Thomas, on my right was David Coverdale. I later heard they both lived there year around. Both were really friendly, great guys.
Ahhh still so smooothhh...was 16..this why boomers are critical of today's music...the musicians were known as artists. They poured their hearts and souls into the music. This music takes me right back..peace y'all ♥️
Saw the EB band back in the day. I was at Ft Jackson in Columbia, SC...which was at the time a great place to be if you liked live music. Also saw Elvin play as a part of the most amazing concert I have yet to see in my 68 years...as a guest with the Marshall Tucker band at their show commemorating their first national tour. MTB brought Charlie Daniels, Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts and Elvin to jam thru a "greatest hits" collection...then they brought out Lynyrd Skynyrd. After a 45 minute show, the entire grouping got together for a jam that lasted until the cops pulled the plug!
Thats Mickey Thomas singing on Elvins song because he felt Mickeys voice was better for this song.🎤 Y'all need to hear Mickey sing "Jane" when he was singing with Jefferson Starship...his voice is showcased even more & its so powerful!!🎶🎸
In a couple weeks I'll see Elvin for the third time at a annual bluesfest in my town. I can't wait cause he is such a damn good blues guitarist and overall entertainer.
Great reaction as usual. This song has an inside joke to me and some guys I grew up with. It came on the radio when we were hanging out as teens one day and one of the guys says "He's just running game. He's saying `Yeah baby, sure, I've been with lots of women, but you're different! I fooled around and fell in love with you! Uh huh! Sure ya did!" Which puts a whole different perspective on the song. 😏
As others have noted, Mickey Thomas of Jefferson Starship is the vocalist. With that said, you guys really need to check out "Find Your Way Back". Awesome song that doesn't get any love from the reactors. Another one is "Jane", but I think you guys have already done that one.
Imho this is the definitive version. (Studio recording) The vocal perfection of Mickey Thomas also with Jefferson Starship back in the day, and Elvin’s smooth solo made this a classic, no matter the category.
Welcome to every slow dance and skate in the mid 70s ❤😊that's why us older guys realized back when that it's a game of numbers and win some lose some 🙃🤙💪😂
I can't yell you the connection, but this song makes me think of Steve Forbert's, "Romeo's tune". I think just people and songs i group together. But if you want to hear a happier, cheerful love song, yry that one.
They got married & had a daughter. It didn't work out but he had the worst outcome. His daughter was 18yers old I believe & got involved in this weird culture. Sadly, she was murdered & her body was dismembered. Then, the people who killed her, shot & killed her mama while she was asleep. It happened in the 80's I think. It was just so sad. He wrote that song for his daughter"s mama. Just wanted to give you a little info about him, the song he wrote & the senseless tragedy that followed.😊
yacht rock refers to the "soft rock" of the later 70s. Hall and Oates, the Doobie Bros, Michael MacDonald, are just a few hit makers on the yacht rock list.
This song was pretty much an accidental hit -- they were needing one more song to finish the album. Mickey Thomas sang this one and, BOOM! Turned out to be a hit.
This came out in the mid 70s and I assure you there was none of this "yacht rock" nonsense. Great song, tho. Still excellent after almost a half century.
Elvin is a good singer and he did sing most of his songs but Mickey Thomas is lead vocal on this one .. ..Mickey was with Elvin for about two years and he ended up with Jefferson Starship.. Check out Travelin' Shoes by Elvin
What songs should we check out next? Who are you listening to nowadays?
I think you would really like JD Souther's "You're Only Lonely".
Rock music by Jefferson Starship 🎉

Try THIS RIVER by JJ Grey and Mofro
They performed the song on the Midnight Special and absolutely killed it.
T you have to see this performance for context.
I watched that show every Saturday night!
Johnny 'V' Vernazza played just about as much lead as Elvin did in this edition of Elvin's group.
This was THE song the summer of '76 ✌💖☮
@randywhite3947 yup & I said it was huge the summer of '76
That’s so cool!!! I knew this song but was kind of too young to understand it!!! 👍
Love it.
Because Mickey is a stellar vocalist and Elvin not so much.
Mickey Thomas lead vocals. Watch the live performance on The Midnight Special. That's Elvin pickin on that red guitar.
My senior year in HS,1976, this was being played everywhere.
Mickey Thomas can flat out sing. He also did "Jane" by Jefferson Starship.
‘Jane’ is fire! 🔥
I didn't know he did " Jane" I love that song . Thanks for the info. 👍
Elvin Bishop got started with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers. That's why there's a Blues/Soul vibe to it.
One of the most iconic guitar solos of the 70’s ! Micky Thomas on vocals just nails it . This song is just a vibe !
Great song. I have never thought of Elvin Bishop as Yacht Rock.
That phrase is so retarded
Yeah with a straw in his mouth.
Mickey Thomas is the singer for Elvin Bishop band. He also was lead singer in Starship, which was an offshoot of Jefferson Airplane, and was more hit oriented, IMHO!
You need to watch the Live performance of this song from the Midnight Special, awesome, vocals
Elvin was the band leader and guitarist.
"He said a MILLION...to be exact" Hehe, she noticed.
Elvin Bishop is a blues guitarist who played with Paul Butterfield Blues Band in the 60's. This was a big hit for him.
Awe! This brings back memories as this is me and my husband’s song! Elvin had me thinking he wasnt white when i heard this the first time. The harmonies were exquisite 👌
Mickey Thomas is the lead singer. Elvin’s on guitar and wrote this.
Nice reaction! Mickey Thomas is so good, that voice is amazing, you need to do more Jefferson Starship!
Mickey thomas is a unbelievable singer
This song brings back the memories! As a young woman I wondered if I was anyone’s little black book lol. No phones then!
Hello you know what I like about your channel 😮 you are so versatile
I love the cassette playing during the video. Great flashback. I miss my walkman cassette player.
This is SOUTHERN ROCK!
Elvin was inducted into the RRHOF as an original member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, and inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in his own right
One of my favorite songs from the 70s growing up. I bought the 45 RPM single of it. But if you really want to sing how badass this guy is as a singer in rock music but the singer with soul, check out the song Jane with Jefferson Starship, it will blow your mind. Elvin and Mickey killed it!
Another amazing vocalist. Saw him sing this live when he was part of Jefferson Starship. Amazing!
This song is not yacht rock! It’s straight up rock & roll!!!👍😎
I was in Lake Tahoe at a blackjack table. Maybe around 2005. On my left was Mickey Thomas, on my right was David Coverdale. I later heard they both lived there year around. Both were really friendly, great guys.
this Is BETTER LIVE AMAZING LIVE
Well, sometimes the predator becomes the prey! Great bluesy song from Elvin. Thanks for your reaction.
Must see the live
The 60’s and 70’s had all the talent.
Mickey Thomas maybe one of the best singers ever.
Ahhh still so smooothhh...was 16..this why boomers are critical of today's music...the musicians were known as artists. They poured their hearts and souls into the music. This music takes me right back..peace y'all ♥️
So true. I’m 54yrs old. My favs now are this one, Baby Come Back, Lowdown, Peg, Bell Bottom Blues, and Whiter Shade of Pale. Just sooo smooooooth.
Had to turn this one up. Best a little loud. Best lead ever.
The live version is great.
Saw the EB band back in the day. I was at Ft Jackson in Columbia, SC...which was at the time a great place to be if you liked live music. The sequel to the song is called I fell in love and then I fooled around. 😂
Lol
Need to watch video of live performance
A great song! Loved your reactions !
the guitar solo is incredible...
Elvin is still going... he was nominated for a Grammy a couple of years ago.
Wow Tasha said "Ice Box". My Grandma had one.
Great song!! Loved the guitar solo!! Thanks for this!!
So many good things about this song, but for me the piano fills give it a Honkey Tonk feel like some old country song.
If you want some Yacht rock by a Bishop, try Stephen Bishop. "It might be you" or "On and On" are definitely yacht rock.
Elvin sing my little brown bird. Love it.
Great song !! Great reaction.
Thats Mickey Thomas singing on Elvins song because he felt Mickeys voice was better for this song.🎤 Y'all need to hear Mickey sing "Jane" when he was singing with Jefferson Starship...his voice is showcased even more & its so powerful!!🎶🎸

This is most definitely not Yacht Rock. It's Pop, but the guitarist, Elvis Bishop, comes from straight ahead Blues, with the hardest of credentials.
Uh oh.. Tasha’s ready to hold COURT, now!
😂😂😂
Thank you for the stroll back to high school.
Hubby protecting his women. "No, you dont wanna hear guy talks". 😂
not sure if you did george thorogood live performance of one bourban, one scotch and one beer, the guy he brings out on guitar was elvin bishop

Mickey Thomas, the lead singer, is great. You should check out him singing "Jane" with Jefferson Starship.
Mickey Thomas, lead singer for Jefferson Airplane was actually the singer on this... Elvin thought that his voice better suited the song...
this is one time when the live version is better.
Top ten singer was with Jefferson Starship Mickèy Thomas
Love you both! I watch a lot of the reaction videos and you are my fave’s! Please don’t stop! 🤓
HEY, MAN!😮. GIRLS CAN AND DO DIS’ TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😂😂😂😊. ❤LESS😢😅😊😂😂😂😂❤😊

Saw Elvin Bishop in 1978 twice in Truckee, California.
I must have been through about a million girls, I love an I leave them alone.,.,...,...., Their tears left me cold as a stone.
I was 7 and loved this on my radio station
Reminds me of my clubbing disco days 😊
Saw them perform this at Palm Beach JC 1975...

Mickey Thomas is the singer. Elvin Bishop is the guitarist.
Elvin
Listen to Wet Willie- Keep on smiling !
Great Channel!!!!👍✌️
Entertaining slow dance ☮️
yacht rock refers to the "soft rock" of the later 70s. Hall and Oates, the Doobie Bros, Michael MacDonald, are just a few hit makers on the yacht rock list.
You may know Elvin Bishop better as the leader/singer/guitarist from the band WILD CHERRY (play that funky music white boy).
In this song, he is the guitarist for the awesome solo.
Player gets his. exactly
❤
Mickey Thomas on vocals. Future Starship frontman. Saw him perform as “Starship” a few years ago. Performed this song. A fun evening.
This song was pretty much an accidental hit -- they were needing one more song to finish the album. Mickey Thomas sang this one and, BOOM! Turned out to be a hit.
Great White: Once Bitten Twice Shy
Try Angry Eyes by Loggins and Messina. It's off their first album and a real banger
Scandalous? Neither of you would have survived the 70’s.
This came out in the mid 70s and I assure you there was none of this "yacht rock" nonsense. Great song, tho. Still excellent after almost a half century.
This is Southern Blues- not Duwop lol
One of my all time favorites!! That's Elvin on the guitar. He's not singing on this one. Mickey Thomas is on vocals. ❤
Elvin is a good singer and he did sing most of his songs but Mickey Thomas is lead vocal on this one .. ..Mickey was with Elvin for about two years and he ended up with Jefferson Starship.. Check out Travelin' Shoes by Elvin
Jane by Jefferson Starship, believe it or not it's the same singer ! Mickey Thomas
The black book with 4 stars she would get call back 5 stars one of the keepers lol
Colin James Voodoo thing is a must.
