      @@EASFromTheWest he's right an it shouldn't be downplayed. He's one of the greatest artists of our time and quite possibly one of the best writers of all time. Yes we've come to expect greatness from him, but that makes it no less impressive.

    Met him last night at his show here in Eugene. He's a super nice and humble dude. Really respectful. He took the time to meet all the fans after. That's a true artist!

    Great interview with a great person. Not too many MCs that smart, humble and with an awful skillz. Aesop will be the legend soon.

      He has a large vocabulary, but that doesn't mean he is the "best". It just means it is his style..

    • @TylerDurdenK7
      @TylerDurdenK7 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ali Shuber He is not defined by his vocabulary alone... He is perhaps the only rapper I can think of that does something original. His enigmatic lyrics accompanied with simple direct sentences to link it all together like you see in "Daylight" and much else of his work is just more creative, genuine and intelligent than what other rappers are doing. Aesop Rock is unique and a much needed fresh breath for the worn out genre.
      I am actually interested to know, who do you consider the "best"?

    • @alirocksize
      @alirocksize 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      zombie -orchestra nobody is the "best".. i do not like it when people degrade a beautiful culture down to the T.. hip hop isnt about a large vocabulary, or boring metaphors that nobody pays attention to.. well it could be, but that is just a tiny part to a large puzzle.. I do not consider Aseop rock a great lyricist, and i will explain why. some of his metaphors are so fucking dull.. there was one where he compared the contents of a fucking sodium induced canned food item with his life.. like wtf LOOL.. a lyricist is somebody who can physically suspend a person in the air, whilst rotating them telepathically until their mind internally ruptures and they fall apart. that is what a GREAT lyricist is. Aseop, IN MY FAIR OPINION, does not complete that task. and plus his delivery and flow just are not unique enough to promote even a HINT of interest in him.. if you want great lyricism, listen to mobb deep, andre 3000, gza and rza, ghostface, rakim, big pun, big L big daddy kane, common, talib kewli and lupe. they dleievr an introspective message coupled with the profound utilization of incredible lyricism. there are more, but u ge the point

    • @TylerDurdenK7
      @TylerDurdenK7 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Ali Shuber I can now easily understand why you personally do not appreciate Aesop rock. Most of the rappers you mentioned (with the exception of ghostface killah) include the same used up subjects in their lyrics that you have heard a thousand times over. Surviving on the streets, better not mess with me with me or my crew, smoking it up etc... All of them trying to place their own small stone in the foundations of the former greats like for example Tupac or Nas.
      "A lyricist is somebody who can physically suspend a person in the air, whilst rotating them telepathically until their mind internally ruptures and they fall apart. that is what a GREAT lyricist is."
      This is what Aesop Rock has already done to you. You simply do not possess the intellectual capacity to understand it. His metaphors are just to deep for you from how you have interpreted him.
      And of course you can say that someone is the best at something. Just like Ray Robinson is considered the best boxer of all time,James Joyce is the greatest writer of all time, and so on. I agree that when several people reach to a close level of greatness, it is subjectively up for debate. But something you cannot deny is that when it comes to Rap, Aesop is included in that debate. He cast a large shadow over these other shallow ghetto bangers that are simply copying the other greats that came before them.
      Aesop Rock is doing something new, out of the physical world, taking use of deep philosophy while commenting on life and society as a whole with direct sharp witted hits.
      The only critique I have for him, is that he requires perhaps a bit much from his listeners. You need a certain insight to crack the codes of his enigmatic lyrics that sometimes reads like advanced poetry.

    • @alirocksize
      @alirocksize 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      zombie -orchestra bro you are honestly genius. a fucking genius. bro i dont even feel your subliminal disses, cause they so intellectually RAW nimble.. u outwitted me man, you outwitted me. STFU. U CANNOT HONESTLY COMPARE RZA AND GZA WITH ASEOP.. listen to animal planet by gza and birth by rza.. that is definitely a great expansion of ones mentality, you are just an obstinate, self-righteous, arrogant prick who is clouded with his own delusion. what aseop delivery is genuinely boring.. i tried listening to his album and what he has to say does not interest me the slightest.. i even rap geniused all of his lyrics and the meaninfs are just as painfully DULL. sure he has a great vocab, but he has to udnerstadn that vocab does not depict an artists' skill. how he strings the words together is not fucking captivating. THIS IS ALL MY OPINION BTW, I DONT NEED SOMEBODY CALLING ME STUPID FOR NOT LIKE WHAT ANOTHER PERSON LIKES.

      Yeah, U.S. english is effed up. It's one of, if not, the hardest language to learn because it stems from so many cultures. Multiple meanings for words and connotation.
      Which makes it more difficult when we're trying to interpret poetry/bars. Aes is the G.O.A.T., no doubt.
      Keep listening brutha.👊🏾

      Nardwuar is fucking WHACK! It's never an interesting interview, it's just a 10 minute video of Nardwuar showing off that he's done a ton of obscure research that's irrelevant to their music.
      Aes is already super obscure and bares his soul on his music, wtf is nardwuar gonna reveal? His suicide notes?
