    Appleseed was released in 1999 as a DIY project from Aesop Rock, only available as a CD directly from him for all these years. Now finally in 2021 it is available on all digital platforms, as well as on vinyl for the first time!
    While Appleseed wasn’t Aesop’s first release, it was instrumental in leading his career in new directions and building his fanbase. To celebrate this seminal release, we asked Aesop some questions about what inspired him at the time, and the D.I.Y process used to create, promote and eventually plant the seed.

    one of the last artists in a hyper commercialized medium and he says it at like 9:00 where he admits to "shooing away" a record deal meeting in favor of "getting props from people I also respected." out of everything you could paint positively about the dude this right here is what inspires me the most. He's done it all for the sake of facilitating a shared experience & not hoarding for personal gain he's showing you can still have an artist mentality in this thing and make it work.

      I even remember like 20 years ago in a post online he was basically saying he can’t explain a lot of the stuff he writes. I think some people picture him meticulously working on every line but I think the truth is he’s just naturally gifted.

    • @NetherHawk
      @NetherHawk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MrElephantBeach I think that makes sense, it's like being knowledgeable or good at something and it comes naturally to you but you can't explain how. Especially when it comes to things that you're doing in the moment, sometimes it's impossible to reflect on what you were thinking afterwards since you were just acting naturally.

      I’ve seen people mentioned this before but I doubt it’s the case. If that were the case Star Destroyers would be dissing ace and there is no reason to assume that is the case.
      I believe the lyrics is simply meant to indicate that a lot of rappers of that time came out with a big hit but couldn’t make a real career out of it, you still see this today. It also plays obviously on the extended metaphor of the song being stars to rappers.

    Man this guy explaining that he didn’t pay attention to a deal is the icing of it all. I knew just with out him saying it for years that he enjoys doing him and him only and having no one fuck with his creative space from just keeping up with what he’s been putting out and seeing some of his interviews. Him making this work in his own station of his room really shows the work he put into it and the fact that whole project had no mixing done to it, I’m like really surprised because I thought it did. Out of the years of listening to this guy and hearing this ep here and there is amazing in how it sounds. Not to mention him explaining his equipment set up is really something to note because it shows you how put this together. Like other Artists around that time they used machines. And as easy as they made it sound it wasn’t at all. It shows how easy us artists with a daw and a computer today really have it. And even then we still don’t understand the gist what we’re doing because it’s so much that goes in depth. I really appreciate for him being him and the work in his craft that he’s been producing for soo long. Like really amazing all the work that went into this. Much love to this man.

    You're the best Aes. Did you make the cover for the Spirit world field guide album? I would love to buy that cover as a poster.
    Keep doing you, best wishes

    So funny, id go thru phases only listening to aesop, and id be on deep quests of understanding, and i had been comparing days w a walrus in my spine.. comparing days of getting clams.. u know, cash.. hustling... n e way, the whole float concept, tugboat, and all of aesops library up till that time, and so many of his imagery was verifying all these way out truths or views of the world i was understanding.. good sht. Music to quest with

    Pretty sure 1000 deaths was the first song I ever heard by Aesop. Still rock all his shit but nothing beats some good old tracks from late 90's early 00's
