Aesop Rock & Rob Sonic Talk Soundset, Indy Hip-Hop Today, Upcoming Solo Projects & More!

We sat down with Rob Sonic and Aesop Rock after their main stage performance at Soundset this year to talk about the importance of the festival and what it means as performers for 7 years in a row. Moving from that we discuss how lately more and more artists in the spotlight are choosing to remain independent over signing to a label and how things have changed for them personally being Indy artists since they started. Getting into them as a group with Hail Mary Mallon they let us know that while they aren't actively making new music, the group is there to keep them sane while working on their own solo projects and we can undoubtedly expect more music to come out as time goes on. They don't go into many details regarding their upcoming solo albums but be on the look out for more news from both emcees. Ending on a lighter note we get to find out what other activities both artists would like to get involved in and what thoughtful and deep words of wisdom they have for both each other and their fans.

@@Alniemi Don't get me wrong, it's a great album. I was hoping for something harder from 2 of the greats though. probably put my expectations too high tbf.
But yeah Kiln is incredible dope, the beat is so hard and they flow together very well.
It would be interesting if Aes did a full album in the LLL style, but that might rob us from some of his deeper stuff. Impossible Kid, Skelethon and Sprit World Field Guide are just such insanely good albums, I'd be disappointed not to get another one of that calibre. That Malibu Ken album was fuckin awesome as well tbh.
Rob Sonic's best work is in his first 2 albums in my eyes, but he is still just an incredible MC.

@@TheIncredibleStories oh yeah I 100% agree that with a children's album it would lose much of the deepness, I just want more aesop I can show to my little young cousins!!! Most of his songs, although not vulgar, are not exactly appropriate for children, even i9f they dont understand half of the words. Yeah it is easy to set expectations too high when Aesop and Rob Sonic come together, I love his first and second album as well not all the songs are hits in my eye, but there are some bangers in there 100%
Whatever happens, Im sure we can agree there needs to be more rob sonic and more aesop rock, regardless of what is is!
