  • This is the first of a series of Otter Messers (Knives). You may have seen this before on my channel, but it was a while ago, and I hope my presentation has improved at least a little in the meantime. It also helps to open a series of 6 More knives that I’ve never shown from my little family of Otters.

Yes, and a brass one too. And a U.K. legal one as well. They’ll probably feature soon, as I’m going to do something else on Higonokamis, and these and the Douk Dook have to play a part in that.

That's really interesting. I've got the same model but it's different. Mine is carbon steel with bog oak covers and steel anchor. And it was incredibly dirty when I received it but they put a ballistoil cloth in box and it cleaned up very beautiful in seconds. Side-note the ballistoil sachet is written all In German. And has a licorice aroma (star anise)
It's one of my favorite traditional slippy's. Edit mine was 65$

    • @slick_slicers

I think there are at least 4 different versions. This one was £47. In the U.K., it’s the cheapest version, but not the most basic. That’s the odd nature of the British knife market!

@@slick_slicers yes I've seen one that's camel bone with brass and stainless steel blade but the large model is over 100$ which seems espensive to me for what it is. Do they offer the large and small model in UK?

Beautiful knife. I’d say that blade is more of a Ram’s foot as the blade widens nears the tip

I like the Otter Anker knives, getting one is on my list.
I found a Spanish made (Joyo) anchor knife at a flea market in Valencia, it was in the bottom of a box of manky old knives and forks, it looked more like a lump of tar as it was covered in asphalt. I could just see the anchor on it so I bought it for €4.00, I knew it wasn't an Otter but it looked to be complete.
After a clean up it turned out to be not too bad aside from a worn out tip on the blade, probably from cutting roofing felt, 4" closed with a 3" carbon cutting edge and a bail it has turned out to be a good pocket knife for around the garden, it has black plastic covers, plus it is one of my favourite types of knife, a bargain!
Looking forward to seeing your upcoming collection of Otters.

Funds like that are increasingly difficult in Scotland as you need a licence to sell knives. Axes, swords, saws, chisels etc. are fine, but not pocket knives!

@@slick_slicers I left the UK twenty years ago because it was getting weird, it doesn't sound as though it is improving yet.
The flea market I go to occasionally has some quite nice pocket knives sometimes, nothing of high quality but nevertheless interesting, although one chap had a very nice 19th century fighting navaja. He new what it was and was asking about €200 not a bad price for what it was, very ornate with something like an 8-10" blade, a proper Baratero knife.

@@chrisosh9574 those days are gone in Scotland. I went in to a Nordic shop in central Edinburgh. They had a display of about 20 axes from hatchets to splitting mauls, and I wanted a pukko. They told me but, being in the city centre, their knife sales licence had been turned down! So I could have walked out with a brace of axes, but no Pukko!

Although I like "black" wood handles, for some reason I like the Sapeli wood on this knife. Can't explain it, I actually went out of my way not to get one with grenadilla wood covers. Maybe I just felt the brass anchor needs a redish brown backdrop?..either way this is a excellent EDC knife.

Always finish your videos knowing more about knives blade shapes and other stuff.
I remember Paddy's video well. Would feel a bit of a fraud with this one as have not been in any navy and don't have a boat or yacht, but its well built and not too heavily priced. I like that the branding is subtle and the killick anchor really works well, as although not normally a fan of shields this looks just right. Thanks for the video look forward to meeting the other otters.
