noob question here, is it always necessary to do UV maps before starting with any of this? Or, would it be necessary if I wanted to export the model to something like unreal engine?
The truth is that I don't know anything XD, but I think it will depend a lot on what you want to do. For example, in the case of my model, the only thing that has a texture is the handle of the sword, everything else is shaders, but each x If I had to give it a texture, my steps would be as follows. (1) model each thing that is going to have a texture separately and make sure the mesh is clean. (2) make the UVs and export them to work the texture in another program, (make sure that the objects have the scale applied, if you have not done so, select your object, press the command ctrl + A and click on the option that says apply scale. (3) then using Google images or yourself, if you are walking down the street and see something that would look good as a texture, then take a photo of it and work on it in an editing program to accommodate the texture to your UVs.
I think this method works well if you want to do whatever you are going to do in Blender or in another program, because the truth is when you import a model in UE I don't know if your model will be exported along with the texture. And I don't know if UVs can be made in UE, the truth is I've never used UE.
@@Adanxdragon Thank you for the tips. I have created some models but never went beyond the modelling part. I will have to start experimenting with shaders, UV maps and textures to really understand what things are necessary and what things aren't for different purposes. Thank you again :)
There is a blender discord in case you would like to enter, everyone is there 24/7 doing things and helping those who need it, they are very pro and very good people.
So glad NPR is coming
