**HUGE Love to that notification Squad who knows I hang out and chat for the first while!** We will 100% need to do a part 2! So much more to see! Use Code “LENS“ for $5 off your first #Sakuraco Box :bit.ly/sakuraco-tokyolens or #TokyoTreat Box: bit.ly/tokyotreat-tokyolens with these links!
This was just what I needed! Lol! I love the fact that things about Tokyo and Japan still surprise you, no matter how long you have been there! I can not wait til part 2!! ( I was legit just telling my family the other day how I was thinking of ordering a Saakuraco box. Great minds think alike)
A Torontonian and a Vancouverite go on a boating trip in Tokyo... That should be fun. (somebody gonna get dunked, especially if they mention hockey ;-)
This was amazing. Being on the water gives a whole different perspective. And all the different types of boats too. Also noticed one thing. Norm on land - small, narrow backstreets. Norm on water - small, narrow canals. I’m seeing a pattern 😂
I was thinking the same thing. The mad lad has captain license for a while and already has favourite hidden canals and dead ends in the absolutely vast waterways of Tokyo.
Thanks for showing us another perspective of Tokyo! It's definitely a refreshing take! 😊That "canyon" island looks so cool, too bad it is off limits! Great to have you back Norm! Lovely video!
This guy can speak Japanese, read Japanese, record high quality videos, edit videos, play shamisen, drive a car, drive a campervan, drive a boat, and even fly a plane. What a legend! You are a man of many talents. I'm a bit jealous but I'm so happy for you and I wish you only the best!
A video on water! Yeah, part 2 is needed. It's interesting to see the city while traveling by water. I wonder if there are secret/hidden pathways from the river towards underground areas. That last shot at the end was pretty cool!
Yet another video making me add to my list of things to do when I can come back to Japan. I also appreciate the distracting duck. If it’s not a pigeon it’s a duck and this is the sort of distraction I need in my life. Beautiful as always! 💖💖💖
I so agree! The distractions like these make me feel more apart of the experience than videos with perfect sound throughout. Even the loud birds made me smile.
It was cool seeing the city's infrastructure from a different perspective, I absolutely loved seeing the parks and trees from the water as well! This video is pure joy, thank you Norm!
Hi Norm!! Thank you for this!! This was so fun. I loved the Fun Facts--a great addition. My favorite shot was when you entered Akihabara and you saw the trains and boats together. I'd LOVE to see more boating content. What has been your favorite experience so far with having your boat license? Thank you for all you do; I'm so glad you're back.
I love how, thanks to your boat licence, you can show us entirely new, lesser known views of Japan ♥ Thank you for taking us on this journey >U< (And gotta love how you constantly were distracted by adorable ducks XD)
That was wonderful and eye-opening. Another perspective of Tokyo! Eating the snacks by cherry blossoms in the water was such a dream! But now I gotta ask: is it possible to tour other places in Japan via water? Like the old places you had been, but revisiting it by boat? Love the fisheye ending!
What a unique way to see Tokyo that I've always overlooked! It's like a while new map of the city. So fascinating, thanks for taking us on this adventure 😊 I look forward to more!
I still can't get over you having a boating license. I can only imagine all the avenues this opens up and different angles of approach for adventure. Truly a unique view of Tokyo that I'd never imagine being able to enjoy. Thanks!
Imagine how magical those old time celebrations and festivals might have been! maybe walking from boat to boat filled with shops? or huge marine parades ! Very nice, thanks for showing me
I've been really getting into the Japanese culture again, as it is my #1 spot I wanna visit, watching ya videos over the last few weeks has taught me quite a bit as well as just enjoying the sights of what I could possibly do when I eventually make a trip overseas. you and other Japanese based channels are very entertaining to watch, keep up the great work!!
Great video, looks like a ton of fun exploring the Tokyo waterways away from the hustle and bustle of the streets. It is amazing how many waterways there are there and that most people just don't realise that that is the case!
I'm loving the boat content Norm! Awesome to see refreshing videos like this. You're showing a side of Japan that is rarely seen, which is causing me to fall more in love with Japan. Thank you!
The waterways seem very clean, not something to take for granted! Beautiful landscapes as always, this different perspective on Tokyo is really nice! I loved the gardens
This was the best vid I’ve seen for ages. Congrats on getting your captain’s license Norm, thanks for involving us. Looking forward to more instalments ✌️
Talking about 360 cameras. I'm really happy that they exist. Every TH-camr who ever used a 360-video. Really helped me, in a way, get out of my boring house during quarantine. So, thank you Tokyo Lens for your awesome videos. I do plan on traveling to Japan once they allow tourist.
I may never get to Japan, but watching others and learning things about the country is the next best thing. There was a documentary that included the waterways, but it wasn't as detailed as your boat tour. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I have a Sakuraco subscription. It's great! That ad for Sakuraco and Tokyo Treat made me happy. Spreading the word about these boxes is a Good Thing.
So happy to see you cruising on the rivers of Tokyo! I was able to do this the last time I was in Tokyo, Sept/Oct 2019 starting from the Nihonbashi Bridge. I'd seen a doc from NHK about enjoying the city waterways with unique views and I wanted to do this. The weather was hot and sticky, so it was a perfect way to enjoy a part of the morning with being on the cool water with the refreshing breezes. I went on the Riverboat Mizuha (an older wooden boat) with a husband piloting and his wife doing the tour/answering questions. It was delightful! If you have the time I really recommend seeing Tokyo from this unique perspective.
Your content is so unique. Your boat license opens up a bunch of new things to explore all over Japan. Good on you for getting your license. We really look forward to going on more boating adventures with you. Thank you for making the content that you do.
Ok, but how do you consistently find such amazingly cool places? I know a lot of these are ‘unexplored’ by most because you reached them by boat, but STILL. This is what keeps us all coming back; seeing parts of Japan we’d never dream of.
Such an awesome video! Ochanomizu is one of my favorite spots in Tokyo and it was wonderful to finally see the river from the opposite angle for once. Hope to see more of Tokyos waterways. Great work!
Mate I have to say that this was one of the most unexpected videos of Tokyo ever. It was a real treat doing the canals with you. And I have decided that when I next venture to Tokyo, I will try and do a nice canal tour. many thanks and I am seriously excited about the follow-up waterways video that you spoke of. Thank you so much. 👍👍
I've been watching your videos for awhile now, and every time I watch a new video it makes me miss Japan that much more. Although I was only there for 3 months for work. I've been connected in a way to Japan and it's culture. Thank you for posting the videos!

Re: Waiting for locks - My largest collection of youtube subscriptions are narrowboat channels in the UK. (People who live aboard boats on the UK canal system) So I loved this vlog. They call waiting for locks to fill,
Since I've been watching from the latest to the oldest videos I've already seen a few water advetures, but it's still so exciting the change of perspective 😍 It's like a whole new city to explore!
I love the waterways of Tokyo so much, I remember just staring at them whenever I crossed a bridge as I often do even in Finland on the few we got here. I spent a good chunk of my time at Hamarikyu sitting at the benches that were seen on this video just looking at the waters and at the bridges staring at those old boats parked along the canals. Ive been scouting more places to go look at and that train crossing spot is at the top of my list. And as a off topic note seeing sakura bloom always makes me very excited to see videos about them again, and makes the waiting for our own local trees more bearable. 😊
Ah sorry I'm late 😭 Thank you for showing us Tokyo in a different way, this just looks like a ton of fun to do. I can't wait for part 2 so we can explore more of these canals !
This might be the coolest freaking youtube video as well as views of Tokyo I have ever seen in my life. I knew that back in the day there was more attention on the rivers, but I never really paid attention to how many of them there are and what the view would be from that position. AND on top of that, for the man who is renowned for checking out secret alleyways in various Japanese cities, this is the most epic exploration of alleyways you've ever done. like holy cow man, this is phenomenal. your vision and artistic eye have always been great, but you have quite pleasantly destroyed all expectations I have ever had of your videography and perspective. Amazing, congrats, wonderful job Norm!
I never had seen that side of Tokyo, never knew it existed on that level. Truly spectacular. Need to see more of these types of videos. Well done on showing a stunning side of Tokyo so many of us don't see or is so often overlooked. Simply awe-inspiring!
This is so cool. You never think about just renting a boat and freely driving it around Tokyo. It’s such a unique perspective to see Tokyo from that many never get to see. It would be so fun to just rent a boat and go out with your friends or family and sit out in the bay or something and hangout with snacks and drinks. Sakuraco and Tokyo Treat look like some of the best snack boxes I've ever seen. Thanks for the boat trip! Makes me interested in looking into guided tours of the waterways when I eventually get out that way.
What a unique way to experience Tokyo and an even better way to see the cherry blossoms without all the people! Thanks for the Sakuraco/Tokyo Treat code, when you had mentioned an upcoming partnership in the last livestream I was excited as my husband and I have been wanting to give Sakuraco a try!
As a person who never visited Tokyo i gotta say .. this was an adventure, thank you so much! I’m currently training for おしくらごう in Hagi, Yamaguchi prefecture, which is a more than 300 year old traditional boat race and let me tell you, getting out on the rivers is a great way to rediscover and view whatever city in japan you are at, in a whole new way that you’ve never imagined before. Great video!
I was born and raised in Tokyo but you gave me a whole new sight of my home city, from the water! I've been, a huge number of times, to those spots you showed at Odaiba, Asakusa, Akihabara, etc. but only viewed them from the ground. Thank you for making me rediscover the metropolis. What an amazing idea Norm! Enjoyed it profoundly. Please, keep it coming - helps us beat the winter (and not only) blues. Your beautiful camera work and uniquely “Normesqe” view of Japan light up our days. Thank you.
What a wonderful idea! So many video tours are land-based but this offers an entirely different view of the city! Look forward to the next boat trip! 😁
This was so awesome! Thank you for this new perspective on beautiful Tokyo. And we would be delighted with more of those boat rides, and you as such a wholesome travel guide.
Such a fun video! So cool to see so many things, from the shamisen mural to the Hamarikyu Gardens (I just rewatched your video that included it recently). "What the Fact"s remind me of VH1 Popup video! Are ducks the new pigeon...??

What a wonderful idea! So many video tours are land-based but this offers an entirely different view of the city! Look forward to the next boat trip! 😁
That was super cool. So many picture opportunities. And boat tours? Yes please
The pop up fun facts were a great touch! Also the Insta360 just keeps being an all around great tool!
Hahahaha ducks are our new water pigeons lol
And YAAAAY you got the pop up video reference haha
I love this new perspective of Tokyo on the water!
Never thought about it before this video. Yes, a tour would be appreciated. Thank you
awsome!!! something totally new to me about this wonderful city, thanks for sharing!!!!
The greener bits of the waterways remind me of La Petite Ceinture in Paris 🌿
such a different and unique view of tokyo, you keep finding ways to keep it fresh even after so many years there, great video as always
