As someone who suffered chronic anxiety all my life, i went to Japan in my early 20s and my anxiety evaporated. It was magical! I think it was like a reboot & I look back on my time there, which wasn’t always easy, with huge nostalgia.
@@fvmiller1193 Just curious, how old are you now and did you go alone? I am 25 now, I am stuck because I want to go travel alone but cannot because of home problems.
Lol took me forever to find 2 rolls big enough Wanted 1… but they don’t make them that wide for the average consumer 😂 Looking forward to having you over! We should do a stream!
I'm glad that you mentioned the legal issues related to rooftop camping since some tourists unfortunately replicate things that they see in videos without actually checking if it's okay or not. (Also, your new studio space is amazing & I hope your injury heals soon!)
So much excitement with finally announcing your new studio. Also curious as to how many takes it took with you plonking in your chair without it rolling back too far or you falling off, lol. Rooftop camping does sound like fun. First - camping gear, second - find a rooftop, third - do it in summer so you don't get rained on. What would have been cool though, is if you could have edited yourself pulling the hammock out of the camping bag somehow - Mary Poppins style.
Never thought about rooftop camping before but it seems like a great idea. I must try it some time. Too bad in my country most rooves are slanted, ill have to do it somewhere else
Hammocks are essential for camping and life! I have one in my living room instead of a second couch. This was such a neat little video. I’m excited for what the new studio will bring. 😁
Woooooo! I could absolutely feel your excitement as you announced The Next Stage as calmly as you could!! 🥳🥳🥳 Also, shoes falling off in exciting times is definitely a thing! And the tiny rooftop shrine is so adorable! Congratulations again on The Next Stage, you deserve it and will have some amazing times ahead of you 💜
Literally been watching your videos for years, I remember when you did the pre-50k merch (still sporting them haha), now you have 586k ... its insane you deserve every single great thing! I'm so happy that you get your own space and studio. Your work is amazing , so thankyou for creating this space ❤️
Man, I wish I weren't so damn tired every evening. I should get out more past midnight here in Tokyo. That being said - Akihabara at night is definitely quieter than other "popular" wards. All the arcades etc. close and since it doesn't have as bright of a nightlife scene as Shinjuk/Roppongi/Shibuya, people don't usually stay out there much.
Wow. As someone who came to Tokyo in 2018 all by myself with a one-way ticket, to study Japanese language and culture (although I had to leave 1 year later for unrelated reasons) I cannot image actually starting businesses there and buying/renting a studio. Just getting by, between share-houses and friendships, was very taxing! Fun and exciting, but taxing. I'm still studying the language every day and I will come back sooner or later, but for the time being, you are my eyes and part of my connection to that place. Godspeed.
The new space looks great. I see so much potential in it. It will be interesting to see how it evolves as everything starts to come together. Not going to lie, I'm a bit jealous on your rooftop.
That's so cool that you managed to salvage some of the shop and the fact that you now have your own space like that, something like that would be my dream one day 😁
I watched this a month ago when it came out but back to say that I YELLED to my husband when I realized what this video was about. ❤️ So so so happy. What a beautiful new chapter.
I really hope, that i will see the day, where i can take my first walk through Japan and Tokyo. Until then, thanks for showing me what is out there. Grats on the studio, looks great.

I’ll continue to watch your videos and support your journey and can’t wait to see what beautiful things you want to share with us. It might sound a bit weird coming from fan but wow I’m proud of you
On a trip to Japan a couple years back I traveled only using hitchhiking and camping from Hokkaido to Kagoshima. Took me around 3 months:) What a privilege! Used to find parks on google maps and getting there around midnight, set my tent and wake up around 6 am and taking off. Really tried not to bother anyone around, just finding a place to sleep and continue the next day. I have some funny and wholesome stories from encounters with locals and police, but that’s for some other time I guess lol🥹 But! Norm! You show me a brand new and adventurous way of camping in Japan! Like, for god sake that’s so innovative and awesome ! Love your content, you showcase the ultimate passion and authenticity when you’re filming and I would love to me your travel pal and friend someday ♥️
Oh my goodness Norm, this is wonderful, all that creative energy you have, I am sure this studio will be bursting with people and many friends in no time, as well as being a perfect space and artistic outlet for everyone, congratulations.
I love that getting the studio is more than just having it for the sake of having it. Using the space to teach shamisen classes and support another creator just makes it so much more worth it. Also, the rooftop camping spot is so good!
You are one of the few wholesome TH-camrs who stay humble and truly care about their viewers and I honestly really appreciate that and wish you continued success with your channel and all other future endeavors. Keep up the fantastic work Norm! 🙂
I literally have discovered this channel this year, and it has been a fantastic ride seeing all the exploring and documentaries you make and I’m glad you have your own studio after all this time!
This is SUPER cool! I love your rooftop studio and that you can just camp out / lay in your hammock whenever you want and enjoy the city and sky - you don't even need to research if it's okay because it's your own space. It's so versatile and you can bring in picnic tables or just picnic on the turf when people are over or host an event! I'm so happy for you and this new studio filled with possibilities!
Congrats on the studio Norm! Had me in the first half, really thought you were just on some random rooftop... which would have been hilarious in itself, but the Studio reveal was awesome!
Norm, you've got to be one of the busiest people ever. Between the TH-cam channel (full time job on its own), your Shamisen gig, getting your pilots license, AND your second and third channels, you're a rock star no doubt. Good work as usual and congrats on the studio space.
The new studio looks amazing, congratulations! I have to say, the concept of having a certain number of buildings with green rooftops makes the city look nicer than if it were just plain old roofs. I also really like the rooftop shrine, there's just something really charming about it that I can't quite describe
I’m so happy you saved a piece of history by having the piece of the smallest shop in your studio. Bless you for that! Rooftop camping sounds interesting.
This is just great & well deserved for you Norm! Really looking forward to seeing all the new adventures and events that are planned or performed in your new space! Congrats!

This was epic!! I knew there had to be more to just choosing any roof top. Honestly, glad it was yours! Now we know that you have such an epic studios for meet ups and whatnots!! I cannot wait to visit one day!!!
Congratulations Norm on your new venture and for bringing Japan in all its wonder to the people on You Tube. Glad to see you are "moving on up" both in the sky and in your media.
Wow, I didn't expect that rooftop to be part of your new studio :0 (The studio was a big surprise as well) An amazing video as always, congrats on the studio and thank you for all the effort you put on the channel :D
I just had my interest in Japan renewed after your recent video, and this one got recommended to me a few minutes later. I’m from a rural area, and I’ve always found it so cool that cities are never truly dark, there’s always something going on. Also made me want to go camping again soon.
I'm so excited for you! Congratulations on the studio space and being so established that you can make all the things you wished you had when you first got to Japan and reality ^_^
Congratulations on the studio space. It's so fantastic that you have this space to work and create. This is a wonderful oppertunity and I'm glad that you've managed to achieve such an amazing goal!

Congratulations on your new studio space! The fact that you showed me your stash from the Tiniest shop in Akihabara including the cash drawer is why I am devoted to Tokyo Lens. Have a great week ahead, Norm.
Honestly low-key gonna have this on my bucket list, specially if a friend tags along. Just sounds like the perfect vibe to relax and talk about mondane things
"ooh ooh, I have that hammock! Hang on.... that thing's really bulky... how did he...." What a twist! Even though I've only been watching these videos for like a month, I'm genuinely happy to see how Norm is constantly unlocking doors for himself, taking bold new chances, and moving forward.
I quite liked this video because it’s not something that you’d think you would do in Tokyo, urban camping. I love that you explained that some prefectures have different rules and it would be best to find out beforehand. Also the twist but it turns out it was your office roof was not expecting that. Great video, keep it up, I’m just been watching all of them❤
I love the excitement about your space as a collaborative place for lots of people to come. To make it a sort of hub. Reminds me of my feelings when I first got my first apartment, and it has honestly stayed that way. I love hosting.
Camping is always so much fun. I don't get to go really anymore given certain IRL issues so it is super fun to watch the camping videos and still get to experience some camping time!!
I rarely comment on youtube due to how quickly it gets buried by other posts but been following you for a while and just gotta say how much I love your adventures and evolution as a creator and even a person! Can't help but say how proud I feel for you if that's the right word. Since joining tiktok shortly and even seeying you interact with everyone, makes it so much nicer of an experience! Will be in Japan next year if all goes to plan with projects on my own and many places I'll visit is because of your videos! Thank you for everything and just wanna say, you are awesome!
Raine Thanks so much 😊 Quickly buried or not, I check and read every comment and love that you took the time to leave this. I hope that all does go to plan and I’d love to hear an update when that happens! Or… any time really lol~ Thank you so much again for your kind comment, and have a great day!
Norm, your videos are the best. Sometimes I miss an upload or two of what you post. But then, there is always the treat of going back, digging in to your older content. 🤗
I started watching your videos for just over a year now and I'm extremely stoked for what there is to come! It's crazy how far you've come but then again, every video mesmerizes your audience. Best of luck!
Woot woot trifecta squad! What an amazing space in Akihabara! That’s so exciting that you won’t have to deal with booking spaces for Shamisen performances anymore!! Makes sense why you’re so busy in Tokyo right now!! If you need a hand to help out with preparing anything would love to be able to help out! 😻
I've never went camping in my life but now I wanna try it even if it is in my own rooftop just to start... and that hammock was looking SO comfy!! Congratulations on the new place!
That old cash drawer is amazing, not just how cool it is, but the lore behind it and the fact that shop owner obviously wanted him to have it by offering it to him (even though it would have been thrown out anyway).
those are views you seriously cannot beat! Absolutely beautiful dude! thank you for giving us the possibility of living vicariously through you with these videos!
Congrats on the new space Norm! That's awesome, maybe when I get to visit next (fingers crossed for 2023) and am around Aki I will pass you on the street and can say hello or something with you working from there a bit more. Looking forward to seeing the rest of what's to come this year. Stay safe and stay healthy.
So many exciting announcements recently, looking forward to seeing it all unfold! Honestly though, at this point I'm wondering how you manage to keep all these different balls in the air, you have so much stuff going on. It's extremely inspirational, but also somewhat intimidating since I have many goals and dreams of myself that I would love to chase, but feel unable to because of life and responsibilities. Happy that you are sharing your journeys with us and let us live vicariously through you!
Can I just say how insanely proud I am of you Norm?!?! This is so exciting, such an awesome step! You've been making such amazing moves and growing so much. Its so wonderful to get to watch. Thank you so much for bringing all of us on this epic journey of life with you. As someone who is stuck in a small town, in BC Canada, with little to no skills to get out, barely getting by and a dream of one day traveling (since I've never been out of Canada in my almost 34 years of life) this is amazing to watch. Again, insanely friggin proud of you!! I wish you all the best on this new chapter and cant wait to see where it takes you next! :D
Yesss! The underrated rooftop experience 🌃 People don’t get how much a vibe these can be, just lying up there overnight, maybe even falling asleep looking at the stars 🌌
I love urban camping its such a unique way to experience a city or country, love the new office space and sorry to hear about your accident glad your healing up.
Rooftop camping is such an amazing idea! The fact. you have that little space to be able to go out and just stare at the sky must be great for mental resets on a tough work day. I also love the idea of a collaborative space as well. A real like community hub sort of thing. Look forward to seeing some videos in the future when you do do that!
Last August when I got covid and had to isolate from work and family, I found your chanel! And I watched every single one within the 10 days. And have been watching ever since!
Comment 5: The secret rooftop shrine is so cool. It's like an easter egg in a video game. By the looks of it you have 100 percented the Tokyo map. I can't wait to see what also happens with the items you brought back from the shop.
Congratulations! Thats an awesome space I'm sure you'll make great use of! Your videos have been so vicariously enjoyable. Like many, I had a trip booked to Japan with some university friends.... then COVID hit. It's always been my dream to go to Japan and it was devastating to miss out. So thank you for your videos- they more than softened the blow of missing out and have offered some education for my future trip! Much love from a fellow Canadian!
I think we can all agree that Norm watched WAY too much Columbo when he was younger. "...Just one more thing..."😆 Also channeling Les Nessman with the bandages.🤣 The studio space looks amazing. So much room, so much potential. Congratulations!
So happy for you in your next adventures with your new studio, and I definitely enjoy my Sunday mornings virtually hanging out with you on your adventures (based in Toronto).
The positivity in this video is absolutely infectious as always :) I'm so happy for your studio dude!! And this is the very best video I've ever seen on glamping lol I'd have thought that would be completely illegal!

Congratulations on your new studio space! The fact that you showed me your stash from the Tiniest shop in Akihabara including the cash drawer is why I am devoted to Tokyo Lens. Have a great week ahead, Norm.
Loving the videos as usual, exploring Japan one at a time! Hopefully I can collab with you in the future!
Honestly low-key gonna have this on my bucket list, specially if a friend tags along. Just sounds like the perfect vibe to relax and talk about mondane things
Hi Norm. This is the first time I’ve seen camping on a rooftop 🤔😘🫰☕️ I don’t think we can do that in my country 🤔🤷♀️🇩🇰
This is cool
Was fun too
A unique approach to camping :)
Glad I could bring you along!!
Raine
Thanks so much 😊
Quickly buried or not, I check and read every comment and love that you took the time to leave this. I hope that all does go to plan and I’d love to hear an update when that happens! Or… any time really lol~
Thank you so much again for your kind comment, and have a great day!
Rooftops are just something different. But Camping on them after a trip from rooftop to rooftop… definetly something to add Tommy bucketlist.
Stay safe and stay healthy.
wooo hooo!
i'm super pumped up for you man! huge props to you and all the best on the new chapter!
Your happiness makes me happy, please keep doing what you love!
this setting change from rural to urban in a new experience for me
Can I just say how insanely proud I am of you Norm?!?! :D
Good to see the rooftop’s BACK!!!!!😬🏙🌃
Congrats on the new office!!!
NORM U GOTTA DO A VID ON THE BIKERS!!! .??
Really happy for you , it’s awesome you have built your dreams in Japan.
I think we can all agree that Norm watched WAY too much Columbo when he was younger. "...Just one more thing..."😆
Also channeling Les Nessman with the bandages.🤣
The studio space looks amazing. So much room, so much potential. Congratulations!
Congrats on the the new studio, in Akihabara! Also super cool rooftop camping experience, didn''t know that was even possible!
You’re living the life, studio in Akiba. I just wanted to congratulate you for being a really cool dude for a studio for you and other people
Imagine how magical that view will be in the wintertime !
So happy for you Norm! Can’t wait to see what you turn the space into…please share the journey!
I am so happy you have grown so much and you have your own studio! Your energy is infectious and it's easy to tell your emotions are so genuine. I'm excited to see what the future holds for you!
THE NEXT STAGE 🔼⏫▶ LET'S GO. Norm I'm really excited for you, and all of us viewers. Also, more urban camping please !!! 💚💙💖
Wow, having that kind of studio space, and the rooftop access is very cool. Looking forward to seeing all that you do with it.
Your new studio is huge ! It has lots of potential, can’t wait to see what you do with it !
Dude, I've been going through your playlists and the more we learn about you over these four years is really touching. You're a rare gem Sir, I cannot gush enough about you buying up a chunk of that guys little shop, that was incredibly sweet. Being gifted his cash register was just mind blowing, that is an insane conversation piece full of stories and history. To think he was just gona trash it :o
hjlkjhjlkhjlkhjlk
Norm! I’m a long time watcher but first time commenter but I gotta say I feel so proud of you!!? You’re absolutely smashing life all the time and this is such an exciting next stage for you. I’m forever living vicariously through you so can’t wait to see what you do next! 😁❤️
That’s so kind of you~

Genuinely grateful and happy to have you here!

@@TokyoLens Ah! I only just saw that you replied to this! Thanks so much Norm this made my day! Can't wait to join you on the rest of your adventures 😊
I love the thought of going camping on a rooftop even though I've never personally went camping before I've been told I have but I was too little to remember
What an incredible studio, really happy for you!
Congratulations Norm, that's amazing you're right across from the blue bridge! That melted my heart and I'm such a sentimental person. Well done you've come so far!
I'e had so much joy from going back and watching all the videos, thank you for giving us looks from Japan!
