I can imagine this is the point at which a lot of people permanently set down the game and went to TH-cam to watch the rest of the cutscenes in the game. I really don't know what they were thinking with this guy, once he started parrying everything, I genuinely had no idea what to do since cloud can really only melee attack to get an atb bar. They need to re-evalate how they design boss battles and whether or not they want them to be challenging and encourage players to try again, or just annoying and encourage players to set down their game.
Yeah he's literally faster than the player by far which means gimmick which means you need to cheese him or perfect block and memorize and respond perfectly
Got him down last night. One of the most stressful and annoying encounters I can remember on any game I’ve played. No disrespect to this guide and really appreciate the time spent making it, it just wasn’t hugely helpful for me. Here’s how I did it (normal): 1. Hold square at the previous cut scene to be able to heal and replenish mana. Make sure you’ve got the item enhancer materials on if you have it (the one that lets you use without ATB and the boosted effect one). 2. Don’t block at all. Just roll and keep firing shots at him with the Igenous blade. He’ll be immune to most of them but any small attacks that land will boost your ATB bar. Whenever you get a pressure on him (which honestly happened to me more by fluke than design) hit him with focused strike 3. Keep haste up at all times as a priority. Spam potions whenever you’re at about 1/3 of your max life 4. Save limit break for when his annoying dog comes out as I found it literally impossible to fight both of them. A limit break on the dog and then spamming attack will stagger and then you can finish off quite quickly 5. By constantly rolling away from him you won’t get hit by the majority of his attacks so just keep doing that and make sure your life doesn’t drop too low and it’s doable This was all on normal. Awful, awful design for this fight. Shame
I just did this fight this morning. It was the most BS fight I had to cheese in order to beat him and his dog made it more annoying. Screw this boss fight
@@GeckoMoriia tf does it being a single player rpg have to do with how bad you are 😭? its one of the best boss fights in the game just say you are not good enough to adapt to different playstyles.
Wooooooow. First time I fought Rufus this biznatch pissed me off so bad. At least 50 retry’s. Just did it perfect blocking and using braver on him to instantly stagger and then putting darkstar to sleep to pressure him and wham beat him first try second run in less than 10 minutes.
Just got done playing this fight. I almost broke my controller with how difficult this fight was. I remember having a rough time in Remake against Rufus but my God they took it to a whole new level in Rebirth.
I know I’m late, so here’s something for my late comers: Put mp absorb on the same magic you have for swift cast. When he reloads cast the magic on him to get your mp refund. I use aero+Swiftcast and mp absorb+aero. Also use skill master. I like to heal during his pressure windows, or when he uses the smokescreen attack, or bright lights. Keep using the little blade shots to keep him blocking and to build meter. He’s very annoying. I did the punisher guard on the dog to pressure him, and keep using Magic, disorder, or triple slash to pressure. And I kept swift casting Rufus to get Magic back. Rufus is a weird one
I just wanna say, thank you so much! I had PROBLEMS with Rufus and just couldn't beat him once his dog entered the battle. Watched another tutorial and they told me to use Disorder, didn't work. Listened to you and used Focused Thrust, and beat him once I did! Also LB on the dog is waay too important, easily take his (and Rufus's) damage down that way.
Managed to pull through this after so many deaths & many many words the English language couldn’t even comprehend yet equivalent to that of Homer and Le Grille. Great walkthrough & excellent advice, just wish I saw this sooner😂😂
I'm not that good of a player but here are my tips: Dodge Guns Akimbo everytime, get close to him afterwards and abuse that attack button or Focused Thrust. It's the only window I had and I maximized every second of it. Stay focused and consistent until Darkstar appeared. Put your focus on the dog, Limit Break him, all you can do to finish him ASAP. Mega Potion and sometimes if necessary X-Potion is more convenient than magic since they both are annoyingly fast and you might not have enough time before they cancelled your action. Once Darkstar's out it's the same stuff all over again for Rufus.
I just spammed regen and elixir and dodged a lot 😂Then I saved my summoning and limit break until after his dog came cause thats when the battle would get really annoying.
Cloud: *breathes* Rufus: counters Cloud to death People who say FFVII Rebirth is a "mash buttons to win" game and that OG FFVII takes more strategy: AM I A JOKE TO YOU!??
This advice helped me beat him after 3 tries. Key is to lock onto him first thing. Run around and blast him with ranged attacks like you did then when he goes into air use triple slash. Rinse and repeat and cura as needed. Finally dispose of darkstar asap when he joins the fight. Use limits on darkstar.
Finally just beat this boss after like 20 attempts. Used up all of my mega potions and x potions which I’m not too happy about but it feels good to beat him.
If you put the dog to sleep, it breaks the link and pressures them both. Use that opportunity to stagger and eliminate the dog with your limit break. th-cam.com/video/ndJCvNPBovQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QAHyiBFCS6dP7b5R
You dont even need to kill the dog When he reloads fuck him up Cast stop when you stagger him When he brings his dog summon bahamut save your limits for when he is staggered.
Braver will instant-stagger him if it lands during his reload. HOWEVER, his reload window is so small, unless you activate it the nano-second the "Reload" pops up, Cloud's animation is so long that Braver will land after his reload and Rufus will counter instead. It is absolutely ridiculous. This fight is NOT GOOD. This fight is not DIFFICULT. It is complete BS and Square needs to know it. It's not even fun...
Going back a month later and trying to improve I found if you have a materia that helps gain atb faster/ at the start, you can use more moves and it becomes much easier. I do hope they change this fight in game three because you know we will fight him again 🙁 -Tallen
I hated him in remake, and that fight in rebirth is even worse, I din't know what to expect in the third game, but it's probably going to be awful as usual
Seriously considering rage quitting. This is insanity ! I've been fighting him for THREE HOURS!. Made it to when Rufus gets backup and you are promptly slaughtered. My hand ached now and I haven't been so angered by a game since Elden Ring (Which I rage quit before I smashed my tv).
It’s timing. You can dodge as much as you want but will need a second to stop then hit the block button to then enter that animation to deal with the dog -Tallen
This horseshit was just the cherry on top of easily one of the worst final fantasy games ever made. Indescribably ridiculous what this stupid series of fights is like on easy. Not fun, not challenging, just unnecessarily difficult. Anyone older than 12 years old shouldn't have to spend DAYS perfecting some stupid strategy to a completely unmemorable fight.
I will even admit it’s a bad fight for the first time going through it. However after watching our guide a couple months later, I think one thing we can do to make this MUCH easier is changing up our build to boost atb much faster meaning more use of skills making it much easier. -Tallen
@@DirectGamingYT For what it's worth, your strategy is legit - no shade thrown on that. I watched it and it was well-composed and made the fight worth attempting.

In hard mode, i took both of them out with the infinity end strike. Rufus didn't get to go into his 3rd phase.
Interesting.
How was the damage dealt by him? Was something like barrier helpful?

This fight ALMOST:…
Almost….
Made me put the game up and never play it again.
I’m giving up. Watching a play through of the rest of the game SMFH
I used all my X-Potion to defeat him😭
This fight doesn't make any sense at all. Just play it on easy.
But i feel loser if i switched to easy
@sebastianvettel4717 after 80 hours playing this game, I reached a point where I just Wana finish it and get it over with.
Is there a way to change difficulties? Contemplating putting this game away instead of starting all over
@@shawnyi6120 from the options u can change to easy
Lol nm, I switched it to easy and got passed it. No shame at all
theres lots of missions that can make people quit playing in ff7 rebirth. Its not even hard mode yet.
