  • I started off thinking this would be a quick weekend job and it escalated into a full engine out operation. You never know what you are going to find when you open up an engine for the first time, this one surprised me.

Good job, Brian. That piston at the very end says you're doing the right thing.

Great video, we very really see the petrol version in the UK, mainly the 3.2 diesels, which I have in mind

Bro amazing video. Coincidentally I’m smelling a little bit of oil burn from my Evo VIII. Motor runs like a champ however I’ve been suspecting the valve seals. Different engine but still very informative to watch you break down the Montero’s engine.

Thanks man! I imagine that a lot of other Mitsubishis suffer from the same issues. Sounds like you’ll need to keep an eye on it

So port & polish cylinders, bore it over, install race component springs, valves, pistons & cam it out to acquire greater horse power & upgrade ecu ? Can you turbo these things easily as well.

Hmmm, im going to follow suit with testing the motor in my 06. Then again, it's going to get pulled out regardless

New subscriber here and wanted to thank you for your great content and ask a question. I am going to look at a 1999 with air locker today as it is only an hour away. It has 235k and seller states that it has a noise from the flexplate. I'm leaning towards one of the items you mentioned in this video. Assuming it's an internal problem and I buy for 2k. Is it worth rebuilding or swapping if the truck is in decent shape and otherwise functional? Anything else i should look for during inspection?

Hey man, I've recently got into working on my 03/04 montero 3.5 GDI and I have a question.
My Montero has a problem where for some god forsaken reason it won't exceed 3k rpm whilst not giving any codes.
I apologise about this but I know that you're knowledgeable on these cars and am wondering if you can point me in the right direction
    Thanks :)

How does the power feel getting up to 3k rpm? It could be the throttle body plug. Might just need to be disconnected and reconnected

Typical Mitsu V6. I’d consider a swap tbh.

Do you ever look into the mirror and ask yourself? Why didn’t I buy a jeep?

I’ve owned 3 jeeps and after the 2nd one I swore I would never by another haha. I’ll the the issues I have over jeeps poor quality any day. Don’t get me wrong, they are awesome offroad, but man are they poorly built
