Apologizing because you got caught means f*ck all in the real world. If everyone happily bought the stage for five bucks, they'd be charging ten for the next one. Keep in mind that as of now, all we have are words yet to be delivered on.

It seems to me that Harada or someone else is doing what is possible to not just turn Tekken into a cash grab. If that's the case we should recognize that this was made in good faith and accept that it was a good move instead of bitching and feeling we're entitled to free content forever. What incentive will Harada have to keep doing what he can to preserve Tekken's player base if he has to fight people above him in the company AND the people he's "fighting for"? That's the industry standard unfortunately, microtransactions are here to stay.

It’s only a fake apology because of the bad word of mouth now being prevalent online and people not buying the stage.
    So no it’s not enough.
A real apology they can make and that we can receive is when we don’t have to constantly remind them how bad and predatory their practices are at every update and they start doing the right things on their own. Until then, non apology NOT received.

I saw the apology last night.
Frankly, I think it is a good gesture and them trying to reclaim their audience. Harada hasn't really been enjoying his new position as a company head and many of the decisions being made are ones he seemingly just has to roll with regardless of how much he dislikes them. These are just observations, but after Blue Protocol and now Unknown 9 looking like a total flop in waiting (that's what you get for working with a DEI consulting firm), it feels like Bandai has just lost a ton of money recently and the brunt of helping cope with that seems to have fallen on Harada's shoulders.
Make no mistake, the bad business decisions with Tekken are a direct result of their other failures. They just realized the strategy isn't working and is pushing away yet ANOTHER audience.
We don't know how earnest they are being yet; actions speak louder than words. But what we do know is that they at least are aware of how unhappy fans are and are going to be doing SOMETHING to try and curb the backlash.
Personally, I am inclined to believe that things will get better purely because they are doing the right thing and downsizing their studio; forcing oldschool layoff tactics where they put problem employees on the opposite side of the building in a small room until they quit. The corrective measures are already taking place, now only time will tell if they have learned the right lessons.

Tekken is the only IP Bamco has that is doing any kind of positive business right now (Did they publish or have involvement in Sparking Zero? If so, then that too). If their marketing team/suits/whoever responsible for the monetization of Tekken right now had any kind of sense, they would do what it takes to not mess it up.
If it was up to me, I'd look at how much Tekken 7 made and just keep doing that. Why 'modernize' if there's no reason to? (Rhetorical question, it's because the people high up can't help themselves.)

Responding negatively to someone trying to apologize and make it up to you is not a good incentive to ever do it again. I understand still being silently wary, but if the community can't accept this apology and move on, then they shouldn't be surprised when BNE says "well screw you too".

I believe the apology is acceptable (in my opinion), at least just "Now" they mentioned that stage is included into the Ultimate edition then later will be separate price with character pass. That is 100% fair, but now We are back to the point with the game still having resource leakage issue (sometime causing Fatal issue crash, which We often see in Tekken 7. I don't know why but other game that is also using Unreal Engine just doing fine though so they need to do something with it as fast as they could cuz imagine they apply the ranked point reduction from disconnection and still there is crash issue), also balancing and netcode issue (I just hope at least... the very least Season 2 will be actual legit "server based", the netcode probably is good but due to it is Peer to Peer like, no matter what they do that will never solve anything if we stay with Peer to Peer system and online will always feel terrible + people always be able to abuse it)

Now Mike, I don't like to spend money just as much as the next one, but this apology, shouldn't be there at all. I've got the Collector's Edition, just like you, that comes with the Ultimate Edition of the game, and in the back it reads: "Year 1 Pass of Playable Characters - 4 Additional Playable Characters", plus all the other additional stuff. It's very specific in the wording. There's nothing about extra stages, costumes, story DLC's, nada... I was actually surprised when the "Beachside Resort" was given for free. I mean, they're basically saying "We apologise because you guys can't read". And the people complaining are obviously the type of people that complain about shitty work conditions after signing a contract that specifies those said conditions. You can criticise the pricing, that's one thing, but criticising the "lack of information" is disingenuous. And for the people complaining about "not being able to lab the stage without buying it", well, learn your game, 'cause the Genmaji Stage has the exact same measurements and shape of the Arena Stage. I get it, and I also don't want to spend any additional money, but I also don't want to go back to the days of T6 and TTT2, when there was no support, simply 'cause there was no monetization.

I hard disagree with everyone saying the apology means nothing. It means something, not much but something. An apology is an acknowledgement of wrongdoing and a promise to be better and not to repeat the offense going forward. What they do in the future will determine if they earn(ed) their good will back. I do mean earn back good will by the way, just because I recognize they apologized doesn't mean they are back in my good graces but it's a good start. It takes years to build a good reputation but only a few moments for it to burn it up. Framewhisperer is right if everyone happily bought the stage for $5 they'd continue pushing how much further they can get away with but one major caveat I think Framewhisperer and I hard disagree on is I think it's a two way street between the companies and us the consumers. BN could only do that if we happily bought it as FW says himself, it's partially our fault as consumers buying cruddy or overpriced products. We obviously didn't here but we need stay smart as consumers and keep demanding better from BN, complacency is all evil and predatory business actions need to win at the end of the day.
Steam "fixing" the reviews on T8 I have mixed feelings on honestly. I can see where they are coming from but on the same token these "review bombs" are legitimate criticism that have to do with the game. I think the primary reason why removed criticisms regarding the Genmaji stage is Steam has the stage listed as DLC store page so you should be review bombing the Genmaji store page specifically and not the whole game which I think is actually some what of a fair point in this case.

  • @RenTheDragon1975
    @RenTheDragon1975 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I think this is a very good compromise.
The ideal thing would be to make the Stage free and refund the people that bought it .. . That being said, I understand that organising that over 3 platforms would be alot of faff and probably open to abuse from hackers.
So giving the equivilant in Tekken Coins to everyone is the next best thing imo.
The only thing that I would add...... would be to put the Stage in the Tekken Shop so the free coins can be used to buy it rather than still having to use real money.
Let's face it there is no competative reason to buy the stage as it is the same footprint as Area (I think)
And these gifted coins can be used to buy the shite battle pass premium track that will give the coins back for the next one..... so they are effectively giving the Premium track to everyone for free.

  • @FAM0US-M0NSTERS-
    @FAM0US-M0NSTERS- 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I like the response. Much like with NRS, the huge backlash adjusted their price gouging to be more fair. The holiday fatalities became a pack instead of 10 bucks individually. They also gave out a bunch of free skins and dropped the price of the premium skins from 10 to 5 bucks. In my opinion, it should always have been content included with the Kombat pack, but it's still a small win when they adjusted the price. I feel the same way about TEKKEN 8. The fact that they apologized and are offering a bunch of free content means they are concerned about what the community thinks about the game. I still think the fight pass is fucking stupid, fix that crap already.

If the coins they give away 4 to 5 dollars worth, plus they are giving us a free stage, you multiply that by millions of people bought into the game, that’s a huge amount of potentially lost money because they changed their business strategy according to consumer sentiment. We still have to wait to see how they behave in the future, but this is an excellent start. - Punish pluggers atleast, Demote after a plug
    - remove the win or loss bonus shtick
    - All characters should be unlockable (like every other Tekken before 7)
    - All stages should be free or unlockable (why not use the in game currency?) (not fair for people who dont have it to play on it in ranked especially)
    - Implement In game currency more (all the customization in the shop or for other items like characters or stages)
    - Best of three games should be mandatory, if you leave then your points are gone)

When it comes to the store, I'm of the opinion that any game with a store that allows you to buy items ONLY with their own in-game currency should be illegal because 9/10 times it is a blatant scam. An example being a skin could cost 600 coins but you are only allowed to by 500 coins or 1000 coins, so something that should be $6 is actually $10.

Great video Mike! Hope ur doing well too long time no see!!
I think this Tekken situation is really… something. I still love Tekken but I’ve been so uninterested in this game and every time I hear about it, it just gets worse and worse. Dare I even say.. worse than MK1?
I’m glad they actually acknowledged & apologised to us. That’s good. But I’m just a little confused why they didn’t just give the stage? It’s no big deal, I mean this is the same company that charged for frame data in Tekken 7 😭 idrc for the stage at all but giving us 500 coins (which is more than the stage) feels weird & I also never remember seeing that the stage(s) would be a separate purchase.. but again not surprised given bamcos track record.
I think Tekken 8s future will be very interesting, I don’t think the games over.. definitely not but the next character & next season needs to be a hit with no issues like this because this isn’t even the first time they’ve had this issue with Tekken 8 & ridiculous monetisation issues etc. We’re not even a year into Tekken 8 either.. but I’m not giving up despite how rocky it is, I just hope we get some good characters soon like Eliza, Anna, Armour King, Kuni & Mokujin, if we get any of these & I won’t be complaining personally.
But yeh.. this is a very interesting dilemma that Tekken is in. I do hope they can resolve it quick but I also need them to address the game issues too.. I don’t gel w/ this game too much either.
Anyways great video Mike!! Hope u have a wonderful day!! 🙏

In my view the problem here is not the genmaji stage. That is only a symptom of the larger issue of the audience not feeling like they are being heard. Instead of this apology that kind of misses the point, I think the audience would rather see the issues with the game fixed and for the bait and switch monetization to stop.

I would say this was a fake apology because they got caught and they're still gonna penny pinch
but honestly I didn't think they'd come out with anything, let alone actually making changes
it would be cool if the stage was free from the start but people have paid for it already, probably not that many but some have, so I think this is probably the most reasonable thing they could have done, which is some form of refund in a way that isn't going to require a bunch of long support email chains
and they mentioned the future stage is going to come with the pass, that's honestly all I can reasonably ask for
if they do pull this in season 2, I'm hoping they put the stages inside the same pass, if not a slightly different pass, just because I don't like the idea of buying everything separately
so yeah this was enough for me to buy the stage, what does make me happy is that the community actually voted with their wallets for once, because this probably wouldn't have happened if the stage sold well, even if there was backlash

Couple of thoughts on this: The apology is better than nothing & I accept it, I'm starting to lose respect for Rooflemonger now, imo SF hasn't had the consistent level of quality that Tekken's had, the only thing I'd say is there shouldn't be an offer period for the Tekken coins & I think the gift should just be given whenever you log in. In general though, my problem with Tekken 8 is just the overall direction with its gameplay so I'm deffo looking for more changes to the game to help me come back to it, I'm deffo keeping my eye on the last Season 1 character & Season 2 to see if anything changes & they can bring me back! Side note: I'm so happy I didn't watch Joker 2 & saved my money, as a fan of the original 2019 Joker film, the sequel just doesn't exist to me! :)

Didn't think I would get a Smile 2 review, appreciate the bluntness 🤣.
It is a start but it seems the focus is still more on monetization/greed than gameplay. While it somewhat addresses the Genmaji controversy it seems that they are going to charge separately for stages going forward? It is sad that a season pass doesn't mean exactly that anymore. At the end of the day though I think it doesn't address the more important issues that would gain player retention:
Frankly the online sucks. If Bamco do not do something substantive to deal with the toilet that is ranked mode they are going to lose players. Due to their inaction of dealing with cheaters it practically promotes it. Why is anyone coming out behind in points if they lose the first game and come back and win the 2 remaining for the set?
Bamco claims to care about competitive integrity but you wouldn't know it with their focus on greed over gameplay. The balance is iffy at best considering what the top 3 characters get away with compared to the rest of the cast. Claim to want it to be good for spectators but how many Dragunov mirror matches did we have to sit through in finals 😅. Also why isn't the Tekken World Tour an actual World Tour, let everyone play!!!
Where are other single player modes like team battle, time attack, survival, tournament and treasure mode?
At the end of the day they are at least acknowledging us. I still think it is far from enough and if online and monetization stays the same or gets worse it will be bad. I hope that I am wrong and going forward they do better.
Hope you are correct in the direction of T8 🙏

I could care less about DLC pricing and all that jazz, it won't affect my opinion of the game. I think its a nice gesture to include the winter stage as part of the pass and give the Genmaji stage value in coins as it would be too complicated to refund players that bought it across all the platforms.
I only care about the TWT still being ineligible for participation for residents of Russia, Venezeula, Iran, Balkan regions, and several other countries for no justified reasoning. The only change in the rules is that China got added as a 16th eligible region for the LCQ and global finals. There is no reason a person should ever be barred from competition if they are able to travel to any TWT event, and as such they should lose the right to call themselves a "World" tour. It is only because of this reasoning that I currently view Tekken 8 under a negative light.

  • @alter_037
    @alter_037 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

I really do wonder though. What pushed the idea of battle passes and other “unneeded” additions into the game that has a likelihood of being either ignored or frowned upon, in a Tekken game no less. They say wanted casuals, newcomers, the new generation to come and play the game, and what they did to do that is questionable at best. Those who play the game would likely have a list of reasons to what and why.
Frankly, that can happen in just about naturally without doing much and let the algorithm do its thing. I’m pretty damn certain they know it and yet they do this. This type of stuff, the battle passes and skins specifically, are quite common in gachas and mobas, and that is not like the main appeal to the casuals or outsiders and a reason why most games implemented it in the first place.
Do they really think this sort of stuff is a magnet for casuals and normies alike? I really don’t think so. This is a side-grade, an optional reward that can be obtained if you want to or not. It is limited but it is up to the player whether they want it or not.
In a game like Tekken or a game that doesn’t do this on record is practically unheard of. Why do this now? It would’ve been fine if the stuff ain’t bad, but, nonetheless it is what it is I suppose. To be honest, this is like the first time to me to see a battle pass mentioned this much. In gacha and mobas, people wouldn’t a make fuss too much on it ‘cause it is quite common and the rewards in those passes are typically good.

All jokes aside, this whole situation is stupid and could’ve been avoided easily. I’m more concerned about the balancing of this game ngl, its in shambles rn😭

Is it going to offer a season pass then you better offer a character a stage and a costume that is what I paid for not just for characters and then I have to buy stages separately...? No no thank you that's why I haven't brought any of their battle passes I refuse or stages nope.
