    The length on these microgreens is amazing! Is there a difference in taste or quality as compared to the 1” bottom tray method?

    Will this work with a BTF tray with holes? Or does it have to be the mesh version?

    I must say that this method looks easy and the greens look amazing. I bought a few resuable mats from you guys and failed miserably at my 1st attempt. During germination, my seeds rotted and smelled horrible. I will take another stab at it.

      Im sorry to hear that your first grow didn't go well. Don't be discouraged, though!! There can be a learning curve at first, just like with any medium. From what it sounds like, you overwatered them, and you need to adjust your watering levels! If you need any help, send us an email info@onthegrow.net and if you have photos, that really helps too.

    New subscriber here. I have been sprouting using the jar method. I always understood that sprouting seeds needs to be sanitized with vinegar or hydrogen peroxide before sprouting to prevent contamination from e-coli, salmonella and other food borne illnesses. I buy organic, non gmo sprouting seeds from The Sprout House on Amazon. I notice in your videos that you skip that step. Is it necessary to sanitize seeds before sprouting?

      That precaution is for sprouts, not microgreens. See th-cam.com/video/VR41cbFqaRM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nc7gknIZ2VaQqz5O

    Have you tried the kratky method with the deep sprouting tray set (green)? I have done lots of kratky in different type setups but not with microgreens. Definitely need that inch of oxygen between the root and the water.

    How is the canopy humidity level at harvest time with this method? Does the water in the resevoir tray add extra dampness?

    • @OnTheGrow
      @OnTheGrow  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Personally, I rarely have any issues with moisture levels when growing with this method, as long as I'm using the reusable mediums and I don't over seed the tray.

      @@OnTheGrowThank you! Trying this out with broccoli and arugula. Trays were seeded yesterday and excited to see how things turn out. If I try this with beets, are there any tips on seed hull management? Do I always need a top layer of medium with beets?

    What happened to weighted germination?

    • @OnTheGrow
      @OnTheGrow  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      With this setup, you are utilizing only the tray as weight. The reason is that due to the gap on the inside between the 1-inch and 2-inch tray, adding additional weight tends to make it sag too low in the middle and doesn't always have positive effects like it would with a regular setup

    your sprouts grow best on a stone slab. this must be very porous and be able to transport water like a sponge. The sprouts will then grow on minerals instead of plastic. The health difference should be clear. Cleaning is also easier and there is no waste, as the stone slab is almost indefinitely durable. It just needs to be placed in a water bath. In addition, the sprouts need daylight. it makes no sense to illuminate everything with electricity via LED. It is unnatural.

    • @PhroztByte
      @PhroztByte 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @sdafsdf9628 The stone slab idea is interesting.
      Not all environments get enough daylight in the winter and not all spaces allow enough light to grow indoors. Other than moving to a more sunny environment or building a brand new facility to grow with natural lighting, what alternatives are there to full spectrum LEDs? Unnatural lighting seems to work out fine, but curious what alternative solutions you may have?

      I agree, I use plastic tiered trays, no mesh, which allow water to drip down to each layer with no need to have the roots soaking in all that water. I also only use sunlight , all u need is a window sill and I live in England where sunlight is limited but plants are very hardy and just a little sunlight will allow them to grow successfully. Its worked a treat and I can even consume the roots,. no waste like in this video, thats a whole third of the greens just thrown out for no reason.
