I started DE shaving not long ago. I have sensitive skin and started with a Wilkinson Sword, which I didn't like from the get-go. Then moved on to a Henson AL-13, and so glad I did! From the first shave, with the included RK blades, it was one of the best shaves I ever had. Now the Wilkinson is just a decoration. Experimenting with blades at the moment to find my Goldilocks blade.

@@pastamasta702 I did get it, yes, and it has absolutely been worth it over the last 6 months. It gives a really clean shave, it's simple and easy to keep cleaned, it's got a good weight to it, and all in all it's just a verry good razor. As for why I got this compared to other safety razors, mostly because the Henson guys got to me first, truth be told.

I have had a horrible problem with clogging razors. Gillete, $ Shave, Harry's, Geremy's, they all clog if I don't shave for a day. This one doesn't. And costs far less than all of them. I am very happy.

Use Henson medium with Astra blade and love it. No nicks or razor burn. Recently switched over from a Parker 29 L that served me well for 10 years. Still works well, but the Henson is a definite upgrade. I even use the cheaper vanderhagen puck soap that you get 3 pucks for 10 bucks. Love your channel.

As I have said before the Henson is my favorite razor, glad you gave it a try. Good call on not using the RK, I 'm not a fan. I didn't buy the Henson until I was well into wet shaving. I didn't get it quickly because I didn't like light razors, especially cheap feeling aluminum. The Henson does NOT feel cheap and now it's weight feels amazing to me, I love it. You get used to the weight and you can keep going over spots if you need to without irritation. The titanium version, which I finally bought is a bit heavier and I love it but it is expensive. Awesome video man !

My anecdotal experience that what they claim is true about the blade flex. After a few weeks I started getting really bad irritation again. At first I wrote it off as just a bad few days of my skin being more sensitive than usual. But then I noticed that I hadn't tightened the blade as much as I should have. So I twisted it tight and was back to no irritation. I also figure that maybe the blade flex is why people swear by straight edge razors.
As for the lightness, I've been using a razor I got that was handmade for years, and I was able to just swap the handles. I also didn't much care for the handle that came with the Hensen, but with the old handmade handle, it is fantastic.

GREAT VIDEO, thank you! I'm considering leaving Jeremy's - which I've loved - and switching to Henson's. Using a pre-shave oil, horsehair brush, various puck soaps, and after shave gel right now. Will try the alum block and witch hazel (used affiliate links). Jeremy's v2 is the best multi-blade cartridge I've ever used. Any specific hints for the switch would be appreciated. I figured I’d revisit. I FINALLY got a Henson AL-13 razor. Received it, today. Dr. Squatch has a green version. Happened to see an ad on Fb, last week. Had a Cyber Monday sale for 35% off. Excellent deal.
I used it with a Super Iridium blade. I loved the shave. It doesn’t shave real close, but close enough. No nicks, cuts or razor burn. Picks up a lot of hair on each pass. Rinses out, very easy. Compared to the Rockwell 6C, I’d say the Henson is better than the Rockwell with mild plates. Not overall, however.

I shaved many years with Gilette, last years with Fusion, before that with Mach3. My gut feel says that I will stick to the Henson. New to this type of shaving. You are going over most of your skin 3-7 times a pass. When I borrowed and tried a safety razor, he said long smooth strokes and not without cream. I'm not sure if it was for new to it or what. Just think if you go over your skin so many times, you will get nicks on the thinner areas, no??? I'm supposed to receive my Henson razor today. Was searching for shaving tips. Thank you for making the video.

I've had the Henson mild for 7 months and I have loved it! I've mostly used the RK blades and get very close and comfortable shaves. It's my first DE, so I didn't have to "unlearn" things like dealing with heavier razors. One thing I will say is that because the angle is completely dialed in, it does a great job of exposing differences in blades, soaps, etc. I'm trying several different right now, and have yet to find one better for me than the RK.

Could you say which Rockwell plate the Henson Mild is similar to? I find Henson is a very mild razor and the head really drags on my skin so I plan on returning it. The included RK blades are the worst. Once it literally skipped across my chin like a rock skipping across water with an RK blade.

    • @OhioShaves
      @OhioShaves  ปีที่แล้ว +2

I don’t care for the RK blades either. As for Rockwell Plate #, may #2. There is a major difference in these razors. You have to get the correct angle on the Henson. With the Rockwell you do not, you can shave with a shallow or Steve angle, and still get a great shave 🪒

That shave sounded baby face smooth. I’m considering a DE safety razor for the first time, and I’m currently doing my research before purchasing one. I have coarse, natural, curly hair that makes me prone to ingrown hairs, and sensitive skin to boot. Hoping the DE safety razor is the answer for me. I’m also looking forward to future cost saving and minimizing plastic waste.
After listening to a few TH-cam channels on shaving, it sounds like you’re in for an enjoyable head shave with the Henson.

I knew you'd like the Henson. While the Rockwell 6S is my daily driver, I usually go to the Henson when I have any skin irritation or blemishes. It's almost impossible to get nicked. After 2 or 3 shaves I learned to use a light touch and I haven't had a nick since. When I got my Henson (mild), the Astra Green was recommended and shipped with the razor. I can't recall why Henson switched to the RK blade? Also, I bought a two-pack of those silicone collapsible bowls at Amazon for about $6. They are great for travel.

Gotta say I'd been kicking around the idea of getting this one for a few weeks. Finally broke down and got it earlier this week, after seeing your demonstration. First shave this morning...un-freaking-believable! I have very sensitive skin (I have to use a Shark Super Chrome blade for how mild it is). This was the cleanest shave I've ever had in four years of wet shaving. Not a single nick, or spot of irritation. (I'd been using an EJ DE87 or 3One6 to this point.) It's like using the weight of a cartridge/disposable, but with actually decent blades!

Oy..., three pass shave procedure??!! Wow, I'm strictly a one pass and done shaver, but that's because I can't grow a full beard or mustache if my life dependent on it, but I agree with you; The Henson AL-13 is great. I just got mine the other day and used it once, but it'll take a few more shaves to fully get the hang of this razor. I didn't think that this razor did that well on my neck, but perhaps that will change with more use. I’m glad you like the Henson razor and went with the nacet blades. If I’m running late I’ll grab for one of my hensons as it is an autopilot shave. I picked up a high proof razor and that is even lighter than the Henson as I have to watch the pressure. My only complaint which is why I got the aggressive is that i can get a smooth shave but will have more of a 5 o clock shadow with the medium vs the aggressive. Honestly with all of the issues I had with Oneblade if Henson didn’t work out I would have probably gone back to cartridge razors.

@@OhioShaves Ok I have had the Hensen AL-13 with RK Shaving Stainless DE Razor Blades since june 2023. Verdict? The best shaver is still my Gillette Fusion 5 Vibrating Razor .
The Hensen is too aggressive and I have to be super carful or I will cut or razor rash my neck. Ruined a few shirts which has never happened with Gillette.
      Gillette Pros
      - Can shave fast no cuts easy no need to be careful if in a hurry
      - Does not clog easily
      - vibration help to shave even with a slightly dull blade
      Gillet cons
      - Price per blade is much higher than Hensen
      - Maybe does not shave quite as close but not far off.
      Hensen Pros
      - Price of blades !!! much less
      - simple
      - closer shave but at a cost
      Hensen Cons
      - Can dice up your face if not careful
      - Razor rash from it literally skinning your face, blades are too aggressive even the standard model
If price were no option I'm going with Gillette, I've gone back to it and use the Hensen as a back up.

@@OhioShaves had my first shave with the AL13. Not perfect by any means. It was the smoothest shave I've ever had, but I still got a decent number of nicks on my neck in the process. None of them stayed bleeding with aftershave on so that's a first.
I followed this approach from watching your technique: shower, shave oil, paint on shaving cream, lather on face, wtg pass, xtg pass. I did break rules and did a bunch of feedback based glides atg as well.
First time that I didn't get a nick on my cheeks while shaving.
I've got to figure out the grain directions on my neck. I think that, and too much pressure, are my problems right now.
