The Henson is a quality-made razor. Amazon does sell a 100-pack of the RK blades. I paid $50 for the original AL13. If I had to choose between the new Henson for $70 or the 6C for $60, I'd choose the 6C because it's like getting 6 razors in one. I find the R2 plate to be as mild as the Henson and a bit more efficient. But any new DE shaver won't be disappointed with the Henson AL13.
@@CaseAgainstFaith1 I've never used the RK blades. Henson originally recommended Astra Green blades to be used with their AL13s. Then they switched to the RKs. As you said, with blades like Astra, Nacet, Personna Lab Blue, Wilkinson Sword, etc., there are many excellent choices.

This is what I needed to know. I thought the AL13 design would reduce the need for strict angle discipline but in fact it increases it. As I would be using it exclusively for Head shaving that's important to know.
Recently purchased my first Henson. Got the AL13-Medium. After using it once with a Permasharp blade I can say it shaved my head as good if not better than my Leaf razor. Actually loved the way it felt and I feel like the post shave felt better and had less irritation. I actually used a bit of pressure as well and got no knicks. Even the medium version is still very mild. Will be trying a Nacet then eventually a Feather in it too for future headshaves 👍🏻
I just used my Henson medium aggression on my head and I got way more hair off my head I feel very smooth shave and I usually don't like shaving my head and now I really enjoy it might do it again
I’ve noticed the RK blades have weak wax holding the blade to the paper wrapping. This leads to the blade freely moving around in the wrapper. This could cause some dulling. Maybe this is why the RK blades in the Henson caused quite a bit of tugging for me.
You and I are very similar in our shaving kit set-ups. For me it’s….6S, 6C, and T2 razors…Simpson T3 brush….Feather, Nacet, Astra SP, and Voskhod blades…Nivea post shave balm…and Proraso shaving cream. Seeing how we are so close…I have one recommendation for you to try. It’s the Ice Cube 2.0 (blue with menthol) pre-shave soap from PAA. It does a great job setting up your beard…it’s economical ($12)….and that cube lasts a long, long time. Great product…great price.
Great Vid as always. Where do you pick up Gillette Nacet blades. Been using feather blades. I get a really close shave but i get a ton of stinging. Want to try something new.
I found the RK blades to pretty nice.I do use them for head shaves. Not bad. After that used Astra blades. Pretty good head shave. Then I discovered the Leaf. Never looked back. Rotate the Henson into my face shaves. Not bad.
Or even the aggressive! Hensons “Aggressive” isn’t even in the ballpark of actual aggressive razors. Still super smooth with just a little more blade feel compared to the mild and a good bump in efficiency
I’ve had my Henson for couple months and hands down best shave I’ve had since using straight razors. Very small learning curve for use and cleaning that’s just common sense stuff. I do a full shave once a week and spot shave with just a warm cloth no cream daily. I’ll be giving Hensons for gifts from here forward. Thanks Henson for making shaving fun and easy lol
@@OhioShaves 👍! I'm also a fan of Astra green and blue (strangely I experience them as fairly similar). Tried Astra thanks to your recommendations... also like Perma-Sharp and Gillette platinum blades. Will try Nacet in the future for sure. Tried BIC blades made in Greece recently, I love them....! Perhaps you will also like those blades. Best...🌲.
Thanks for a really great video. I especially like the close ups. I use the Henson AL13 medium - with a Nacet blade - for head shaves and find it works really well for me. It’s my go-to razor for head shaves. I’m not a fan of RK blades though. I do my head shaves in the shower, but face shaves at the sink.
I am a beginner and I am not chasing after that baby smooth shave. I first picked up the Shaving Revolution Double Edge Safety Razor with the accompanying 5 pack blades. It really caused sever irritation and redness. For sure it might be my bad technique.....I was on the verge of giving up and then I watched more of your vids on Ohio shaves and was convinced to take the plunge and get the beginner friendly Henson AL13. It is so mild with both the RK blades and the VOSKHOD blades. Now that I have found something that works, my plan is to get some ASTRA blades. I am so relieved that I found a system (blade and razor) that works for me. Note: The HEnson AL13 was this year's model and it is just the default blade they have....as opposed to the HENSON AL13 M which is their medium aggression razor.
The nacet blade is nice in the Henson. I find the angle a little goofy with the Henson. I prefer my lupo aluminum. Yes the lupo has more glade feel but I find it’s more conventional DE head shape much easier to work with then the Henson & the tad extra weight of the lupo helps too. I kept trying to ride the head with the Henson at 1st & as u noted…it does nothing 😂
It’s a toss up. The Henson is made better with no moving parts. The thorn is a little easier to shave with for beginners, but snapping de blades in half is weird. I like both of them and I don’t think you can go wrong with either of them.
RK blades are probably the typical mild blade, which most blades are. I’ve tried just about everything there is (Except RK and the PAA blade) from those websites where you can buy a singular blade from each different brand... The ones from India that I said I use on your last video are called Silvermax Cyro Sputtered Platinum. They take down 4 days growth kind of the same way as a Gillette Nacet does. I don’t even know what brand they’re from. They just had them on The Razor Company for Black Friday.
I bought a week ago the mild. I shave head and face everyday (head last 12y) face 30+years. I come from Gillette fusion5, and after a week I have yet to see the benefits. It takes longer, I cut myself every time, and it does not shave as smooth as the Gillette in the same time. I have the feather razors mounted in the Henson, and i use a shaving cream. Ill not give up yet, but to let folks know it is NOT a smooth transition coming from easy peazy Gillette after 30 years. The money was the trigger, but if I have to bleed everyday and it takes longer, it wont be hard to go back. Great video though, thank you!! 🥰🥰
I did notice using a high quality shave soap helped a lot for me, way slicker. Also getting used to the extremely light pressure. I'm using Feather blades with my Merkur Futur, which is a heavy and aggressive razor. I hope you figure out whatever it is you're missing! I can't shave the boney part of my head though, I gave up on that and use a foil shaver. Edit: Using the Parker Variant now and I love it. Highest setting is aggressive enough and lowest is actually too mild for me. Shave my face with 4.5 and my head with 2.5. Highest setting on the Variant is close to a 1 on the Futur.
Just stay with it….your technique will improve with time. Using a good pre-shave treatment and a good shaving cream will help out a lot. I use the Ice Cube 2.0 from PAA and Proraso shaving cream with brush and bowl. The Henson razor is too light for me and I don’t like the constant angle you have to use…to get it to shave properly. To each his own though.
Hey what's up Ohio Shaves! You are my go to head shave guy since I've been shaving my head. Maybe a good 6 months with razors. I currently use The Leaf. I heard it's almost impossible to cut yourself with the Henson AL 13. Which do you prefer for head shaves in comparison?

I am waiting for the High Proof razor to get here and hopefully add another razor to my favorite.
I bought a blue Hensen over a year ago. The bluing faded after about 6 months. I like it because it is light. I have the less aggressive model. I nick about 6 times finding angels while using Feather blades. It works fine with Timor and Meuller blades. I do prefer my Rocca.
I am not a fan of the RK blades, they are not sharp enough for me and tend to tug. Also, I only get a couple of shaves out of them. The Henson used to come with the Astra superior platinum (green). The Astras are amazing in the Henson. But I have seen you use great blades like the Nacet which are awesome in the Henson. Try a different blade next time I have the exact same opinion as you on the RK.
Yeah the RK blades aren’t the sharpest. I love throwing a feather or a Gillette platinum blade in it. Bumps up the efficiency a decent amount but is still smooth as butter!
