I’ve been watching your channel for about a month now, and it’s safe to say you are one of my favorites. You motivated me to buy my own henson, and I haven’t looked back since. Incredible reviews and great insight.
I have the mild one in green with the original design, and the new medium one. For me they're both excellent shavers, but I find i get occasional cuts with the Medium one, and always perfect shaves with the mild. I went back to the mild yesterday for my shave, after a week of not shaving, and it was one of the best shaves. I had to retire the medium one.
Double edge razors are the ones I see my grandpa use. By the time I was in my teens I was getting free double or triple blade cartridge razors from Gillette for my birthday. I was happy to get a gift back then, but I know why were doing that now. I am not getting a close enough shave with ingrown hair with electric shavers, so I am going to try these Henson razors since I have been seeing them so much on TH-cam. I am a cartridge guy who is thinking of making the change. I have tried to do it twice in the last five years, once with an Edwin Jagger, and once with a Supply. Both resulted in a lot of blood. I want to try one more time. Which version is least likely to result in cuts? Medium or Mild?
A good comparison shave. I have the original AL-13 mild and Ive never felt the need to get the medium version. As you demonstrated, if doing 3 passes, both will give the same close result. Whoever wins the giveaway won't be disappointed. Great starter DE razor.
Interestingly, I noticed that some third-party online retailers offer the Henson AL13 in an aggressive version, in addition to the mild and medium versions. However, Henson's website only sells the AL13 in mild and medium versions, with the aggressive version being exclusive to the more expensive TI22 model. Wondering what do you think about the mild vs medium vs aggressive AL13 versions?
Both are fantastic Razors. I like them because I get more perfect shaves out of using a Henson because it makes me hone in on my technique. If you don't get the correct angle, it does not cut which is great when you're struggling with technique. Only one percent of their sales are the aggressive version of the Razor from what I've been told. Therefore, they only sell them to boutique stores. Most people if they want the aggressive Henson they generally go to a totally different Razor manufacturer.
@@OhioShaves I received the Al13-Medium and did my first shave today. It was surprisingly good-more aggressive and efficient than the mild AL13. It removed more hair on the first pass, required fewer passes overall and didn't need multiple strokes per area. There was no discomfort and it felt just as smooth as the AL13 Mild. The end result was noticeably better. I will continue using it as my daily driver to test it out further. I'm now also considering trying the AL13-Aggressive, which is only available at boutique stores and not directly on Henson's website, to see how it compares. Have you tried the AL13- aggressive and how was your experience comparative to the mild & medium?
I ordered an aggressive the other day. Still waiting for it to show up. Hope its not too much lol. Probably should have gotten a mild, but I'll probably end up with all of them anyway. I've been using a safety razor for a while, finally decided to get into a better razor. My understanding is the henson target audience is replacing disposables, so I figured after using old style safety razor an aggressive was probably about the same. Great video, great way to compare the two. If I had watched it first I might have just bought a mild instead. I'm sure the aggressive will still be an excellent razor though.
Hello fellow Ohioan, you somehow made a video that answered the exact questions I had. I don't shave everyday and I was curious which Henson would suit my needs. I appreciate this video, thank you.
Ended up getting the medium...but my facial hair is way too tough for it. Took 3-4 passes to get the hair, in the end had to get the cartridge razor to get missing spots. I'll have to give it a month and see if my technique gets better. But so far, it's not my forte.
How does it compare to the Merkur 34C? That's what I've been using since 2015. I disassemble it every time to clean the blade off rather than wash. Do you find yourself able to rinse the Henson without taking the blade out?
I’m like you, I take my razors apart after every shave as well. The Merkur 34C is a great razor. I don’t know if upgrading to this Henson would make a difference unless you want the medium aggressive razor the plus plus version. Comparing the two side-by-side I definitely get higher quality shaves from the Henson mild or medium aggression. I find myself getting a perfect shave with this razor more often than any other razor in my shave den. It is just that easy to use.
Hey Ohioshaves, I was watching this again and I wanted to ask, if the mild could get the BBS, why go for more aggro? Like, for me personally, the 1 on a Rockwell 6C doesn’t pick up at all (except in very few spots). So what’s making this mild razor, mild, compared to the AL13 medium?

I know the R41 is FUL:L on aggressive, but I am wondering if the AL13-M can offer the kind of aggression I need without the risk of nicks and cuts that come with a very exposed razor. I guess my question better refined is: how aggressive is the AL13-M in comparison? Does it come close to the R41 in terms of blade exposure?
I found this super helpful. It was actually the final thing to help me make the decision. My only problem is i think i should have gone with the medium instead of the of the mild. To some degree, i also wonder if it's the problem of the cream in using. I've tried proraso white, Nivea gel and Gillette gel. I think i need something with a thinner application. It's just not leaving me as smooth as I'd like. I think my electric Braun was getting closer at times. Could also be how I'm holding it. I've been using an electric razor for 20 years, so I'm just getting used to it again. I also wish the default handle was a bit longer. I don't want to pay for a separate one >.< But your videos are great!
Great video as always ! I own all levels of aggression with the Henson and the mild is my most used. IMO this is the best razor if you are coming from carts. You will love the ti22, it is spectacular.

I’ve made a ghoul …my brother-in-law was telling me about his razor burn and how he can only shave one’s a week was so bad…. so I told him about my Hanson razor and I loan him my precious AL 13. And gave him some real shaving creams and a brush….. Just over a week I get a message. . I’ve just ordered a Henson mild in blue. I can shave every day now. Hello! Lady here, Im actually getting a henson for myself, but I'd like to get one for my boyfriend for Christmas but still on the fence as to which one to buy him! He's Armenian so he has very thick facial hair. Correct me if Im wrong, it seems the medium gets a closer/faster shave, but the mild feels smoother? I dont have man hair so I just can't decide!! I would get the mild razor for him and buy a variety pack of Double edge razor blades for the both of you on Amazon. You will find that some razor blades work better for you than him and vice versa.
Thanks for the video, I was debating buying the medium but it looks like I am just as good with the mild. Also, I got a little sprayer head that fits perfectly on the Thayers Witch Hazel and just mist it on my face and it works perfectly! :)

I've been loving my medium Henson for the last year or so. It's my first saftey razor and I'm really impressed with the performance and the price of blades going forward. I just need to find a good brush and bowl (and perhaps a super aggressive razor for beard trimming).

I feel people seem to overemphasize using aggressive razors. If you do a traditional 3 pass shave, even the mildest of razors will do the job.

For a head shave witha bit thicker hair... Would the medium be better or the mild would do?
Both are great Razors and if you're on the fence, I would go with the medium.

I don’t know if upgrading to this Henson would make a difference unless you want the medium aggressive razor the plus plus version. Comparing the two side-by-side I definitely get higher quality shaves from the Henson mild or medium aggression. I find myself getting a perfect shave with this razor more often than any other razor in my shave den. It is just that easy to use.

Hey Ohioshaves, I was watching this again and I wanted to ask, if the mild could get the BBS, why go for more aggro? Like, for me personally, the 1 on a Rockwell 6C doesn’t pick up at all (except in very few spots). So what’s making this mild razor, mild, compared to the AL13 medium?

I know the R41 is FUL:L on aggressive, but I am wondering if the AL13-M can offer the kind of aggression I need without the risk of nicks and cuts that come with a very exposed razor. I guess my question better refined is: how aggressive is the AL13-M in comparison? Does it come close to the R41 in terms of blade exposure?
It is half the exposure if I remember correctly .052 Henson medium and the R41 is over .100

I found this super helpful. It was actually the final thing to help me make the decision.
My only problem is i think i should have gone with the medium instead of the of the mild.
To some degree, i also wonder if it's the problem of the cream in using. I've tried proraso white, Nivea gel and Gillette gel.
I think i need something with a thinner application. It's just not leaving me as smooth as I'd like. I think my electric Braun was getting closer at times.
Could also be how I'm holding it. I've been using an electric razor for 20 years, so I'm just getting used to it again.
I also wish the default handle was a bit longer. I don't want to pay for a separate one >.<

I would grab a variety pack of blades on Amazon. Blades make a huge difference when shaving your face with a double edge, safety razor
Great video as always ! I own all levels of aggression with the Henson and the mild is my most used. IMO this is the best razor if you are coming from carts. You will love the ti22, it is spectacular.

I’ve made a ghoul …my brother-in-law was telling me about his razor burn and how he can only shave one’s a week was so bad…. so I told him about my Hanson razor and I loan him my precious AL 13. And gave him some real shaving creams and a brush…..

Hello! Lady here, Im actually getting a henson for myself, but I'd like to get one for my boyfriend for Christmas but still on the fence as to which one to buy him! He's Armenian so he has very thick facial hair. Correct me if Im wrong, it seems the medium gets a closer/faster shave, but the mild feels smoother? I dont have man hair so I just can't decide!! Anyone have any advice? Is there one that causes less irritation than the other? Thank you gentlemen!
I would get the mild razor for him and buy a variety pack of Double edge razor blades for the both of you on Amazon. You will find that some razor blades work better for you than him and vice versa.
Thanks for the video, I was debating buying the medium but it looks like I am just as good with the mild. Also, I got a little sprayer head that fits perfectly on the Thayers Witch Hazel and just mist it on my face and it works perfectly! :)

I've been loving my medium Henson for the last year or so. It's my first saftey razor and I'm really impressed with the performance and the price of blades going forward. I just need to find a good brush and bowl (and perhaps a super aggressive razor for beard trimming).

Been seeing these advertised for awhile. Just recently got a Cremo shaver. Bought a bevel some years ago. With the Henson, I’m VERY intrigued.

Of the three I asked about earlier which one would you recommend for a 15 year old and what blade. He has sensitive skin and the dollar shave club one breaks him out.
