Great video. I love the Little Mermaid too.
Another scene which also has incredible cinematography is the shark chase. As a kid, I would rewind that scene over and over, and even now, all these years later, I still love it.
The shark is displayed subtly in shadows at first, hinting the danger. Then it appears behind a large window, but you can only see it's huge mouth armoured with razor-sharp teeth. Then Ariel and Flounder swim away and the shark chases them, and the camera pannings and close-ups give an extra energy to the scene that makes it feel fast-paced and urgent. This combined with the lighting, the sound effects and the superb animation.
I loved it as a kid, and always respected it as an animation fan and very very amateur animator. Watched it again last night after finally watching The Fox and the Hound. The difference was staggering. I was in tears for half the movie, it is so powerful (if a little... problematic, to say the least.) It's almost an overwhelming experience if you are able to appreciate visual storytelling.
Another aspect of the film that I never see it discussed is how good the sound effects are. Watch the movie again, and pay attention to every scene underwater. Every time a character moves, you can hear the water rushing or flowing. This is an incredible attention to detail!
The final battle for this is definitely batter than all others.
When I sprained my ankle, I named my crutches Fletsum and Jetsum

this movie was my favorite as a kid and to this day still is. I really love how the lighting changed on Ariel's skin tone and hair. For example in the prequel, Ariel's beginning, it was not even half as good like not even the hair movement, lighting didnt even change... its just so bad. And then the sequel, don't even get me started either, the animation was just so horrible. And the fact that its not even about Ariel except her daughter like... ugh. Wish it was more about her because she is my favorite Disney princess! Anyways the live action is supposed to come out next year... no words. I have high expectations and they better not ruin this masterpiece... the actress playing Ariel said that they are changing a bit of Part of Your World song like WHYYY. we will have to see. loved this video btw
You're right and you should say it
