Killer set-up, Dave. Thanks for sharing how you make that gun work for your style. Love the matte black over bronze cerakote on the barrel and receiver.
After watching the video on your previous gun. Last year I installed the youth stock on my Benelli M1 20, installed the Fastfire 3, bottomland taped the entire gun and a Carlson’s turkey choke. Two long beards fell to that gun and your mouth calls. I’m still smitten with the gun. (and the diaphragms) Thanks for another great video Dave et all.
Sweet Dave !!. Glad you became a Benelli user. Have my ol' SBE 1 12ga. I Lug around. Have handled the UltraLight. That might be the one I need to upgrade to. 74yrs old I need to lose weight. The gun damn it !!
I'm running the Pinhoti .560 and an IM .601 Trulock in a 555 O/U, hand loads, #8s tss, and nickel-plated lead #7s...keep up the great work your doing, glad to see you giving back to conservation, that's awesome...
Awesome gun Dave! My setup is a tristar viper g2 bottomland...light and with a 660 pinhoti trulock...its gonna be a monster on toms. Looking forward to your 2022 content!
Nice rig man. I bought my teenage son a 20 gauge last year. I’m thinking this old man might be joining the 20 club soon. I wouldn’t even consider 3.5” shells as the 3” Turkey loads are brutal! Best of luck this spring!
I shoot a Winchester sx3 with a carlsons longbeard xr with Winchester longbeard xr 3 1/2 inch shells im confident in shooting 55-60 yards all day i havent shot anything that far but 40 yards its a nasty good pattern
Was there any issue with having the stock cut since the inertia has the recoil spring in the stock? I was thinking of getting a shorter stock but the manufacturer of my inertia gun said it could not be changed out due to the tube/spring in the stock.
@pinhotiproject appreciate that, I was hoping to be able to just get a replacement stock instead of cutting the existing one, since cutting it would void my lifetime warranty. Edit: I see what you mean now, benelli has replacement stocks. I have a weatherby and they don't have replacement stocks. I'll have to check with a gunsmith and see if there are other options that would be compatible with my gun, I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject, not sure if the tube dimensions vary between different manufacturers.
Good information for anyone looking to put together a turkey shotgun. Wondering, how does the 24" barrel compare to the past 26"? I shoot the Encore single barrel in a 26" to keep it light and manageable for all purposes. The single makes it shorter but I'm considering an autoloader.
The Franchi is Courts designated turkey gun for now. The main difference the weight distribution in the gun. The Franchi carries it's weight in the forearm while the Benelli carries its weight in the stock. Both proven shooters.
Did you get a Titanium Nitride coating to the bolt? I just sent off a montefeltro bolt and trigger assembly for coating to have a 20g turkey set up for this year. Those guns pattern great.
Will it pattern true bead or is an optic needed? I dropped money on a Franchi affinity 3 last year for it not to pattern to a bead and not particularly fond of sights on a shotgun and was upset that you spend that kind of money for it not to do as should…luckily my 870 20ga still holds true
I think every gun may be different in this regard, I wouldn't know for as soon as I purchase the guns they're drilled and tapped for the FastFire. An aiming device is a great idea in my opinion when choking shotgun patterns down which is commonly the case.
I noticed u still have the "be safe"circle sticker on there. Ohio doesn't use them anymore and mine has worn off from 20 plus yrs of abuse..... any ideas?
Sweet video man! Just switched from a fiber optic bead to a vortex venom red dot sight this year and I'm about 75% comfortable with it. While getting it dialed in, I had issues with the sun. Of course we never sit out in the broad daylight when we're hunting, but I wonder if it's going to be an issue. Also, very low light conditions down in the swamp. I've killed birds before straight off the limb that I could just make out beards with the naked eye. Do those reflex sights have issues in low light conditions like that? It's hell getting old with these eyes lol. Preciate any insight!
There is a glare, can turkey see it and react? that's still up for debate. I've had some situations I thought it was seen and others it was obviously seen but the turkeys didnt react. Verdicts still out.
Dave why do you set your red dot so far back on the receiver. I’ve always mounted mine as far forward as possible thinking it is more accurate that way. What is your thinking on this?
Sweet gun! Really wish you would have kept the “OG” Bottomland instead of the new version and was REALLY REALLY expecting to hear you used Rob Roberts Custom Gun Works especially since he does the Benelli custom shop work. I’m sure ole what’s his face shop did find for ya though. Good luck this season from Arkansas!
@@thereaper4396 I know back in the lead days guys were doing it but the results were not consistent. Some would show benefits and some wouldn't. Same for barrel polishing and the like. Just don't think its necessary for a 40 yard gun now with TSS.
I've shot Fed Hwyweight 7's in one situation in the past. But thankfully those states are shrinking- including what I assume is your homestate of Indiana coming around the the TSS way of thinking.
I have a mossberg 835 bought it late 80s it will put over a 100 #6s in 10 inch circle at 40 yards no money could buy it from me killed over 100 turkeys with it use 3 in shells
I was a Mossberg 835 guy for years so I totally hear you guys. Then I picked up a 20-gauge Benelli M2 when ammo started getting so good (Longbeard XR and now TSS), and it changed my mind forever. The 20-gauge is sooo much lighter and easier to maneuver when you’re crawling or making a small adjustment to kill a gobbler. There’s much less recoil, and the extra shells are lighter. You end up feeling like you’re carrying 5 less pounds in the woods. And if you’re sacrificing shot distance, it’s marginal. The ammo is so good now. Anyway, I love my 835 and it will always hold a special place in my heart, but I could never go back to it as my primary turkey gun. It has no pros and all cons for me. Try a 20 fellas!
I remember when I strived for 100 #6s in a 10" circle with my 870 Express Super Magnum. It was the benchmark and regardless of all the new technologies- those #6s never let me down.
@Dave Owens: the Pinhoti Project rhetorical question really. Browning has been known to camo over wood instead of a synthetic stock. It makes me wonder about the durability since it's still wood. I'm a benelli fan and own several. Without looking up specs my 20ga m1 is light weight and my ultralight 28ga is to nice to camo. That being said I still opt to hunt with my 9lb SX2. Why didn't you go with an m2 to get the durability of synthetic stock even if it is a few ounces more?
Benelli needs to come out w Pinhoti - Benelli ultralight turkey special offered in 20 and 12 gauge w/ Mossy-oak bottomland !
Preston does some awesome work. I had him cut my M2 barrel down to 20.5 inches. I’m shooting the Pinhoti .560 ported & really like it.
Killer set-up, Dave. Thanks for sharing how you make that gun work for your style. Love the matte black over bronze cerakote on the barrel and receiver.
Great review Dave. Began using a TriStar Raptor 20 gauge in 2017. Gave my 835 to my grandson last year. To all us older guys 20’s are the way to go!

Been shooting Benelli's for many years, actually owned an Ultralight as well, great guns.
Very nice. Looking forward to shooting my new 20 g. Benelli M2 this season! It's so light weight.
Nice setup…Let’s see how that thing patterns!
It’s slick!!!🔥👊 My Henry 20 sure loves that .585 choke.
Love that gun u need to go ahead and get with Claw to make a pinhot og bottomland gun sling and a set of Pinhoti vest straps !
Very nice gun Dave !! I'm excited to to shoot my pinhoti 585 choke I bought from you out of my franchi affinity 3 20 in bottom land !
Can you describe why the upgrade on trigger and recoil springs? What was the ballpark $ to customize to a turkey mods?
It’s about time Dave! Guess I’ve got a franchi affinity 3 compact for sale now…. Thanks a lot Dave….🙄
I've always used 12 ga myself however, after shooting those 3.5" loads I get it why you'd prefer a 20 ga.

You can shorten it. You just can't shorten more than the inertia tube. I've since found it easier to just order the compact M2 stock and replace it.
@pinhotiproject appreciate that, I was hoping to be able to just get a replacement stock instead of cutting the existing one, since cutting it would void my lifetime warranty.

Finely they came out with a light and short barrel turkey gun i"m still waiting for beretta to come out light and 20 to 22 inch barrel,
Did I over look that hoodie on your website? I need one LOL
Would like to see a video On your thoughts between the two 20 gauge banelli shotguns and you're thoughts on the 2 pattern difference
Benellis stock just went up
That would be an awesome gun to rabbit hunt with during the off season
Why did you stop using this setup?
This is the second video I've seen on the channel funny enough the first video was when that longboard flew across the creek and it malfunctioned.
Did he even say what guage it is? It looks like a 20ga maybe
Yes. It is a 20.
Indian Creek for my 20 gauge!!

I've shot a 24" barrel for many moons. With advancements in shells, I only see barrels getting shorter.
I shoot a 24" for ducks as well. Those choke/shot combos make up the difference for sure
Awesome turkey gun!! Where can we get one of those sweet Pinhoti Project Hoodies like you're wearing?

Does the Burris FF3 have a red glare on the front and if so, have you ever had a turkey spot that?
they do.

How many rounds does the Benelli ultralight hold
I have a plug in the magazine tube. So the tube holds 2 and 1 in the chamber.
