Great video! I just moved into a vintage home with old beautiful wooden floors and I have no idea how to care for them. After mopping with the Murphy's soap, what should I put on the wood next to protect and shine it? Thanks! Love from Memphis, TN~
You could apply a wood protectant on the flooring if it's not already waxed, but probably should either wax the floor yourself, or hire someone to do it properly to give it a long lasting shine.
Hello Fi Fan. What method did you use to wax and polish the flooring after you washed it using Murphy's Oil Soap? I normally use a floor wax paste and buff it by hand. One issue I encountered is with elderly people who find the waxed floor far too slippery to be safe for them. As children, we would race down the hallways in our socks after we finished waxing the hallways. That was fun but with old folks not so fun.
Do not use Murphy's oil soap on your floors! I am a floor refinisher of 30 years. Do not use Murphy's oil soap. It leaves a residue that you cannot apply finish to. At the flooring supply store where they sell finish there are signs on the wall. Caution do not recoat over Murphy's oil soap maintained floors. Perform test for adhesion. What this person has just done to their floor means you would have to sand and refinish in the future versus doing simple buff and recoat method which is the recommended maintenance for wood floor. Secondly you never wet your wood floors. The water goes between the boards, swells the wood, causes raised edges etc. This video is the absolute enemy to floors. Great job my friend...
Yeah that would be great if your provided a solution. Seems like every product out there has a side that says don't use it its bad for hardwood floors...
How to…… don’t use it. Period. It leaves a wax residue behind, which will prevent you from being able to recoat with a finish. The residue builds and oxidizes causing you to have to keep applying. This is why we have urethane coatings(so you don’t have to wax like 75 years ago) I own a sand on site hardwood flooring company.
Can you use it on oiled floors? I have both types of finish. On my urethane-coated floors I use water or sometimes a very, very diluted cleaner (like 1-2 ml per 500mL), with tensides that breakdown within two hours. I spray the floor a bit to get it damp and then wipe off the damp with a clean cloth. But I'm not sure how to correctly care for my oiled floors... I've just been using water. But they are looking a bit dry...
@@xtravyx1 I'm not 100% sure, since we only had to redo the urethane floors. If I had to guess it's some sort of oil-wax. The floors were newly installed when we moved in, but we don't know more.
Best way to clean your floors with Murphy oil soap is to throw it away and buy Bona or polycare. Better yet send it back to the manufacturer and tell them it's horrible for wood floors. Fact!

Please get as much water out of your mop when mopping wood floors.
I wonder if this would work on tile
What polishing oil did you use?
Try this amzn.to/3Nv6OEC
Hi LI, does this soap help with dissolving oil stain on wood floor?
Might not remove the oil stains with this soap, but you can try this method floorcritics.com/how-to-clean-oil-off-floors/
Mop the stain with warm water soap and ammonia it will come out
I have bamboo flooring. Can I use Murphy Oil soap on floor
Absolutely, Bamboo is for the most part non-porous and should be easier to clean compared to other woods.
my wood floors were put down in 1893 so what do i clean them with after i take up old carpet
For such old flooring it might be best to hire professionals to clean and repulsive/condition the floors to restore its natural beauty
@@TheGizmoGarage I agree that’s an old floor and needs to be restored professionally to its original beauty
What about using a steamer?
Steamer also works for cleaning hardwood or laminate floors! But make sure to condition the hardwood floors after steaming or cleaning to seal them.

I was with Bona every 6 months . So far it works fine.
Ours is so squeaky now and too slippery even too slippery for our dogs.
Did the floor feel slippery after using this product???
Nope, it dries out as this is a cleaning product, and my floor is not treated
Does anyone know how I would go about removing paper that stuck to hardwood floor?
soak the paper area slightly wet let soak for a bit till paper is soft, scrub gently with non-scratch scrubbing pads
Is the water warm or cold
warm water, cold water doesn't dissolve the soap as well as warm one.
Use a spin mop
Love the spin mop 😁
Tell us how much I should add to the water!
@@Gregdevopitts personal preference! There should be suggestions on back of the soap
Do the bottles came sealed when they arrived? Cause mine aren't

Not sealed from Amazon probably fake.

Do not use hot water.

Yes! 30+ years here also. I would have to sand the floor bare to get any finish to bond to the floor.
Don’t criticize! Provide a better alternative to clean the floor. Otherwise this video is helpful to see what Murphy Oil does to the floor.
Home Depot sells ringer and bucke…which is better for your floor. Expect curling of the wood planks in the future if you dont
It WAS good until they changed the formula after a 100 years. Why can they NOT leave anything to alone?

When did they change it
This stuff makes my floor have a white cast and almost like a waxy film
You have wax on your floor and this soap is no good for your floors. It says do not use on waxed surfaces.
Great!
Warm water after mopping with clean mop head. Then dry using another dry mop head
