At the beginning of the season, I thought we were looking okay, depth-wise (aside from up front) but we’re missing 4 starters from last season through injury, two are season-ending. It’s a slight concern
I always used to buy a Villa shirt with my own name on the back. This year I got Douglas Luiz. That's how happy this guy has made me as an Aston Villa fan.
Villa fan. Love the tactical discussions here and on other channels. I'm learning tons. 1. The fourth reason Villa are CL ready? Unai Emery. The guy's passion, tireless attention to detail, tactical wizardry, have revolutionized Aston Villa as a club to the point that, 2. Villa fans still can't fully appreciate what's going on. That's why you see so many, "we're not ready yet for Champions League, maybe next year. We need more players. etc. etc." Just a reminder, last season we "weren't ready for European football, maybe next year. We need more players...." Emery got us into European football anyway (with pretty much the same group we have now), and we are currently 5th in the league. Up the Villa.
The attacking potential was always there with Dougie, so glad to see him unleashed with the additon of Kamara, he'd been shackled for too long - to think Gerrard didn't seem to rate him too! that being said, 'lockdown Dougie' in that pivot role was insane too - what a player! UTV
I preferred it when we were flying under the radar! However, great points made, especially re fixture run in difficulty. The killer for us could be injuries. UTV 💜💙
Loved the analysis and appreciate the insightful comments. Right now we are definitely showing potential to get a CL spot (as are others...) but there is a long way to go and a lot of unforeseen things could happen to derail. So with that in mind, lets see where we are first week in January. By that point Moreno and Ramsey will have been fully integrated and contributing and we will have a good idea where we stand in the Conference Cup and in the league table. Definitely agree that our squad being on the lighter side. I am sure we will be doing our best to bring in more key coverage players in the Jan window. And regardless of everything that may or may not happen. We are all enjoying our football and watching Emery's progress each week as he and his coaches continue to refine the players and team. Every match improvements in our play are visible. The players are really enjoying their football which is infectious. As each of the players gain in confidence in their own abilities, their trust in each other is huge and fundamental to this working under Emery.
Don’t expect too much from our depth on paper, it is very much paper thin without a first team spine holding it together. It’s been very evident when wholesale changes have been made to the starting 11 for the Everton cup loss and conference league struggles.
People underrated us because of that massive blip in the Newcastle game, forgetting that our fan-favourite and defensive monster Tyrone Mings got a potentially career ending ACL injury early in the game, just a day or two after another starter for us, Emi Buendia got an ACL injury as well. You could feel our crowd and players' energy be sucked out of the stadium, and we all just wanted the game to end. It was a close match to that point - and Sir Alex Ferguson raised eyebrows when he said we were the team who'd impressed him most in the opening weekend. Pau Torres & Diego Carlos haven't completely settled into the backline, and Tielemans might not work in a counter attacking team so we still have a lot more to give, not to mention Jacob Ramsey, Alex Moreno, Buendia, Mings still need to come back into the team. A CL position is absolutely the target for the club and the players know it too.
I agree with you and but I also have to say your squad is paper thin, i mean one injury and your team will collapse and that makes a lot of difference in CL campaign. It's changes a win to draw and a draw to loss like what happened in Newcastle. Unless you get atleast minimum prem level bench, it's tough for villa to sustain anything
@@Cal2929 🤣 yeah okay sure even though we'd dominated Newcastle twice in the previous few months. Your fans were calling Buendia a monster (one of our weaker players) after his brace against you in preseason.
You beat us last season which meant nothing to our season when we finished 4th anyways + that pre season game. You couldn't even beat a back 3 with Dummett and Trippier in. I'd sit this one out. If we both finish in the top 5 this year and qualify you'd still have no real bragging rights that mean anything to anyone bar Villa people
As a Villa fan, I currently feel like 6th is probably our realistic level this season. City, Arsenal and Liverpool are a level up so we’d have to be able to get ahead of Newcastle, (who have more squad depth), and Spurs (who only have one cup to distract them from the league). Even to get 6th, we’ve got to finish above the likes of Utd, Chelsea, Brighton and West Ham, which is a big ask in itself, given our Europa Conf League ambitions, so I’d be delighted with 6th and going deep in the Conf League. That would be a fantastic season and a big step up in performance. UTV! 💜💙
Dougie was always an 8 even at VDG in Brazil. It's been his ability to receive and move the ball in tighter areas which is the reason he started in the UK as a DM, but he's always been a box to box player. He's got a lot more in his locker to come. Absolutely fantastic player. Good overall analysis.
Im ignoring the Jim Jinx... Could we. Probably not.... but ..... we are so good atm. Such a joy to watch. Im just enjoying the ride. Without Dougie, we are nothing. He is so underrated, Emery has completely changed him. Im so glad we didnt lose him. He loves his football at the moment and he loves us.
As a villa fan , villa's biggest problem is back up for Watkins, Martinez, Luiz and kamara , let's just hope they all stay fit and we can fight off the big boys for there signatures in the future

Villa have a great chance this season, a few of the other teams (Chelsea/Man U) in transition, with a fifth Champs League spot likely up for grabs. Sleeping giant? Glad to see it, Villa always seemed like one of those 'no-mark' teams, never bad enough to get relegated and never good enough to challenge (like Everton).
Great video mate!! In regards to the final run of difficult fixtures, we'll likely have back the majority (if not all) of the 4 key injured players out now. Buendia, Ramsey, Moreno & Mings were 4 of the most important players last season and missing them is huge. Champions league will be a serious stretch mainly due to the mass of serious long term injuries we have already sustained as well as the incoming zaniolo ban. The January transfer window will be huge for recruiting players that can play in an emery system. At the end of the season I think all villa fans would be ecstatic with Europa League football via lifting the eucl cup or/and finishing in the allocated league position. UTV.
Italian papers are reporting Zaniolo will get a fine not a ban. They report James Bond gambling, meaning cards not football but fallen foul of using a banned site.
Hope you're right, but realistically even matching last seasons 7th place would be a big achievement. Newcastle have unlimited oil money behind them, great infrastructure and a decent manager. ManU are in turmoil but they're United, still a huge attraction for most players. IF Ten Hag can turn them around they'll be up there. Huge surprise is Spurs, maybe they will tank in second part of the season, but the rest ain't going anywhere. Chelsea are a basket case atm but again, they have the squad to challenge top 10. So with present squad even St Emery might struggle getting us into CL.
Maybe it's coincidence but it seems to be connected, a very underrated aspect of signing Diaby is how much better and more effective Bailey has been this season since he's come in. They were together at Leverkusen and Bailey was a massive let-down last year with many Villa fans calling for him to be moved on, even after Emery came in. Bailey already has 4 goal involvements this year in 7 games compared to 8 total in 33 games last season.
Our depth is lacking because of injury. If you take that match day squad from Sunday then add Mings, Buendia, Ramsey, Duran and Moreno, there aren't very many problems in our squad. Maybe right back, but that's about it. We've had a year of Emery now, and most of that year has seen analysts telling us how we're not really that good and it's not sustainable. Yet here we are in October and the only team to have taken more Premier League points than us in 2023 are Man City. I don't know where this goes in the end, but for now I'm enjoying it. Especially our home form. 17 goals scored in 4 home league games is kind of mental. Even more so when you see there were 6 against Brighton and 4 against West Ham. We never beat West Ham.

It also depends what we do in January. Our 2nd team is so much worse than our first team (losing to Everton in the league cup and Warsaw in the conference) we also would be completely ruined if something happened to luiz. We’re a completely different team with him on the pitch and he’s comfortably our best player right now. Overall I’m just enjoying the ride under Emery. I’ve only really known misery as a villa fan in my lifetime so it feels quite surreal walking out of villa park each week happy
I think we can do well for the simple reason that every game we score at alteast 1 goal unbelievable record and we are doing it playing g nice football too great time to be a villa fan 👍
Still without Ramsey Mings Buendia and Moreno has just come back from a five month absence but now on the bench..looking strong tbh and Emery looking to bring maybe two plyers in January then yeah we could just could finish quite high this season..I really want to win the conference league though
Hard to have squad depth when Mings and Buendia get season ending injuries alongside Ramsey and Moreno being injured all of the season so far barring 1 half of football for Ramsey, Diego Carlos has also missed quite a few games.
The top 4s blocked out. It should be a fight between Villa, Brighton, Newcastle, and United for the 5th UCL spot which'll be so close. The main separating point is I doubt Brighton and United will have the money in January to spend whereas Newcastle and Villa should be able to fill their injury holes? Villa and Newcastle are both in Europe but Newcastle's games are defo harder... but they'll probably be knocked out earlier so that kinda evens out. I think we'll win the Conference League but finish 6th. Then next year with a much less flimsy squad have a good Europa League run and make UCL with a 4-5th Prem finish. Then Emery/Waktins/etc all gets poached and we get embarrassed in the Champions League and never make Europe for another 20 years.
All Villa fans and more importantly know that Dougies best position is on the CM but at that time we had no good DM to trust. Thats why Dougie had to play there
It's interesting... Of the 3 would be challengers to the established top 4 (Newcastle, Brighton and Villa) I think villa have the best squad but Newcastle have 4 genuine stars, above the quality of any villa player. Isak, Botman, Trippier and Bruno Everyone loves Brighton but they surely can't keep up the model of selling and buying better... All it takes is the next investments being rubbish and they'll fall away. Kind of like Southampton. Also got to say the European experience of villas manager should keep them going in the league and Europa. Must be exciting times for them
Sorry mate but I have to disagree respectfully. Dougie luiz is a better player than Bruno. I’ve watch every Newcastle game this season, been intrigued and been behind them in the CL, but imo Dougie just edges it.
Go to keep Brighton in the hunt as well. I am a Newcastle fan and we easily beat Villa this year but when we went to Brighton they handed us are behinds and also the worst performance under Howe's regime.

@alexpedler6629 Man United back on form 3 wins on a row in all competitions and chelsea back in form 3 wins on the back as well 4-1 over burnley and west ham drew with newcastle and are the europa conference league champions and are tearing up the europa league meanwhile villa are struggling with their conference league group

Villa’s best midfield 4 of Luiz, Kamara, McGinn and Ramsey that has been successful when all fit, cost the club just £17.5m! • Douglas Luiz £15m • John McGinn £2.5m • Boubacar Kamara free transfer • Jacob Ramsey academy product One of the most dominant midfields in the league, for £17.5M. Mental
where is 'the fallout'? i don't like this focusing on one club thing. Wolves barely got talked about beforehand then we start doing well and there's no conversation about them or any of the other clubs like everton or palace or anything
That easy they have a very good manager who can get a tune out of his players, that showed after you gave us a spanking last weekend, very jealous Hammer here I'm afraid!!!
Yeah Villa are obviously good but lets not forget they've played no one who will pose a threat to them. The two decent sides theyve faced, they got slapped. Brighton are not a threat in my eyes when they have zero defence.
Let's be clear, Arsenal, City, and Liverpool are odds on to finish in the top 4. Therefore, for Villa to realistically finish top 4, they'd have to overcome Spurs and Newcastle. Possibly even Man United, but I'm not convinced. Villa just need to keep up the momentum and I think their squad depth will be really put to the test soon.
No where near City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool or even Spurs. They are a good side but all this chat of top 4 for teams like Villa and Brighton is fucking wild. Newcastle were the first team outside the "big 6" other than Leicester for over 20 years to break into the top 4, now whoppers think any fucking team can do it every season.

JAMES, ITS 9 GAMES IN, CALM DOWN, We're 9 games in shhhhh
Top 5 might be enough
Villa fans can we get that allcott song at the beginning as a chant down the villa!? 🔥😂
Still without Ramsey Mings Buendia and Moreno has just come back from a five month absence but now on the bench..looking strong tbh and Emery looking to bring maybe two plyers in January then yeah we could just could finish quite high this season..I really want to win the conference league though
Yes James!! UTV
Great vid James, and NOT to overreact or anything but Emery is literally a Spanish god, UTV
Super Unai Emery
Can’t wait to see Villa go on a 5 game losing streak after James has made this video
plzz tel me what app do u use for that board
I hate hearing positivity about Villa, because every single time we lose consistently after media hype.
Only reason Brighton had such a high percentage of possession against us is cos they had to keep kicking off after every time they conceded 😅
Hard to have squad depth when Mings and Buendia get season ending injuries alongside Ramsey and Moreno being injured all of the season so far barring 1 half of football for Ramsey, Diego Carlos has also missed quite a few games.
He predicted it
I did predict top 4-6 publicly for Villa . I was told I was mad. Let's see what happens.
From optimism to despair in the last sentence. The ravaged bi-polar brain of a Villa fan after the last 12 seasons. 😉
Man C may be regretting the work permit problems but rest assured they're regretting not excercising Luiz's buyback clause a whole lot more.
But you said its different this time.. everytime too! 🤣🤣
All Villa fans and more importantly know that Dougies best position is on the CM but at that time we had no good DM to trust. Thats why Dougie had to play there
Kamara works in the shadows. Id prefer it if you didn’t start hyping his name. Already worried about losing Dougie L
The form was nice while it lasted lads
It's interesting... Of the 3 would be challengers to the established top 4 (Newcastle, Brighton and Villa) I think villa have the best squad but Newcastle have 4 genuine stars, above the quality of any villa player. Isak, Botman, Trippier and Bruno
Everyone loves Brighton but they surely can't keep up the model of selling and buying better...
Is that a QPR shirt I see behind you James??
Oh no he’s cursed us, the day before we play Alkmaar 🥲
Everyone had an 11 game head start on Emery after the mess Gerrard created.
Go to keep Brighton in the hunt as well. I am a Newcastle fan and we easily beat Villa this year but when we went to Brighton they handed us are behinds and also the worst performance under Howe's regime.
You say our end of season Games are Un favorable Im not sure People quite Understand our Mentality right Now we dont want to P[Lay Bournmouth etc we seem to struggle more against lower level low blocking Teams we Want Man C Man U Arsenal Spurs and we want Scalps mate were savouring the moment we play these Teams were trying to knock one of them out the way so we have to be as good as or better than and i think were Getting close UTV
For me they arent their is just to much competition, Spurs making a comeback, Newcastle becoming prime madrid at home, Liverpool potentially getting osimhen and musailia, Man united getting back on form with onana getting used to the prem, City buldozing everyone once de bruyner comes back, chelsea potentially racing for europe after being back in proper form, west ham and brighton competing as well this prem season is going to be the best onces
man u, chelsea and west ham. what are ur smoking
That's a whole bunch of "what ifs"
@alexpedler6629 Man United back on form 3 wins on a row in all competitions and chelsea back in form 3 wins on the back as well 4-1 over burnley and west ham drew with newcastle and are the europa conference league champions and are tearing up the europa league meanwhile villa are struggling with their conference league group
@@BigAsianMan1999we’ve played our second team in the conference league it’s not priority. The prem is, we’re joint second in 2023 for points behind city. Do you know what form is? We just battered West Ham and Brighton and beat Chelsea at theirs.! Anyone who comments thinking we don’t have a great chance literally doesn’t watch us play. Anyone with any sort of football knowledge are singing out praises, only clueless imbeciles are talking like you.!
How would any of the pig 6 cope losing 3 first team starters from there first 11 ... Beundia acl mings acl and Ramsey out so far (although hopefully he be back soon ) I thought our season was ruined before it had started but the sultan of unai came through as he always does ... add to that I'm sure we will sign some cover in the transfer window .. but even as the most optimistic villan I can't even imagine champions league football.. if we get to the C.L my head would explode with happiness! UTV and as always 💩 on the 🏙
Let's not get to carried away just yet . UTV
Villa’s best midfield 4 of Luiz, Kamara, McGinn and Ramsey that has been successful when all fit, cost the club just £17.5m!
• Douglas Luiz £15m
• John McGinn £2.5m
• Boubacar Kamara free transfer
• Jacob Ramsey academy product
One of the most dominant midfields in the league, for £17.5M. Mental
It was nice while it lasted. 😢
It’s top 5 get cl football this season no?
Isnt top 5 champions league this year ?
I don't like this attention.
Just ignore us. I love going under the radar. Give the other teams the noise
where is 'the fallout'? i don't like this focusing on one club thing. Wolves barely got talked about beforehand then we start doing well and there's no conversation about them or any of the other clubs like everton or palace or anything
Well we’re cursed now
Cheers Jim, seems like Unai Emery is a bit of a genius and unfairly written off after Arsenal. UTV
That easy they have a very good manager who can get a tune out of his players, that showed after you gave us a spanking last weekend, very jealous Hammer here I'm afraid!!!
You’re touching what?
Damn it, you've given us the JLA curse. Loss in Europe and at Luton this week incoming.
Why do you do this to us James. Losing streak in coming 😂
Love how u's put clubs like villa everton on a pedestal and then always ridicule newcastle typical southern bias
Strange they couldn’t score against liverpools terrible defence.
Please stop making villa videos ffs make one on your own team
Ready for the Champions league? They're bottom of their conference league group, Jim.
All 4 teams in the group have 3 points, grow up.
They are also 3rd on form in 2023. Brain dead comment.
Clown comment. Every team has the same amount of points.
@@RenewedRS Ahh yeah, they're really smashing it then.
@@cambodianbreastmilk2980 Is that so? Shit, best get Zrinjski a spot in the Champions league too then.
Yeah Villa are obviously good but lets not forget they've played no one who will pose a threat to them. The two decent sides theyve faced, they got slapped. Brighton are not a threat in my eyes when they have zero defence.
Brighton aren’t a threat yet beat Newcastle? Think before you post fella
Freak result, look at their recent form and their defensive stats, absolutely wank @@JWells-ju6uf
@@JWells-ju6ufhe’s a f*cki*g spazzo this guy 🤪
Brighton battered Newcastle and you lot couldn't even beat West ham
Neither could Brighton, what is your point? @@AK_AVFC
Up the fuckin villa
No where near City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool or even Spurs. They are a good side but all this chat of top 4 for teams like Villa and Brighton is fucking wild. Newcastle were the first team outside the "big 6" other than Leicester for over 20 years to break into the top 4, now whoppers think any fucking team can do it every season.
stop talking about us - we like to be under the radar
Thought this channel was anti-villa? 🥪 done the sandwich as there's no slug emoji. Closest I could find was this 🥒 or this 🦠 can we decide?? WeCanOnlyMoveForwards
