Inside the mind of white America - BBC News

  • The concept of there being "two Americas" is almost as old as the nation itself. From the outset there were the landowners, the ruling class - the "haves". And then there were the have-nots. That divide has been economic but also racial, with minorities claiming a disproportionately small share of the nation's substantial wealth.
And yet, a 2013 Pew Research Center study showed that half of white Americans surveyed do not feel that African Americans are treated less fairly by the police, employers, doctors and others. Only 13% of blacks felt the same way. Amid the current backdrop of the Black Lives Matter movement and increasing wealth disparity, Clive Myrie from the BBC's This Week's World delves into what white Americans understand - or don't - about race.

Antifa, Anti-Fascists, IWW, NLG are Anarcho Syndicalists which is a Zionists labor theory.
This is opposed to Revolutionary Syndicalism (Sorelianism) which is the basis for Italian Fascism.
Whereas Anarcho Syndicalism is supposed to be made up of INDUSTRIAL SYNDICATES and Revolutionary Syndicalism is, for the most part, organized by identity MYTH.
Whereas in a post industrial economy,, ALL syndicates are formed from identity myth ie. Feminist, LGBT, POC, etc.
Whereas Anarcho-Syndicalists become Revolutionary Syndicalists and/or Sorelian Syndicalists

Joe Biden's 1994 Crime Bill led to an increase in mass incarceration of blacks. The stats shown are for convictions. That matters because a lot of times the person commits a more serious crime and pleads down to a lesser crime. That's why they are convicted and sentenced longer for simple possession or other charges. My children have never seen people by their skin color. I went to a couple of my best frinds with this who are black they were appalled as well but told me that instead of telling my children to not see people for their color that they needed to see people for their skin color and to conversate with them about people's skin color but to teach them that you have to look further past a person's color. This is an extremely racist video. Being white in the United States doesn't give you ANY advantages. If it did, I would have had a much easier life.
What this ideology of blaming all of black people's problems on racism does, is it tells them that it's not their fault that whatever is wrong in their lives is wrong. It defers responsibility and puts the blame on someone else, so that, rather than looking toward themselves to improve the conditions in their own lives, which is the only way to fix any problem in anyone's life, they say it isn't their fault and they look to someone else to fix it for them. Nobody is going to fix your problems for you. Nobody else CAN fix your problems for you. You have to take it upon yourself, it doesn't matter what race you are, and work to fix whatever is wrong with your life. This myth of systemic racism holding black people back is destructive to black communities.
True white privilege is that white people don't have the excuse of systemic racism to avoid taking responsibility for their problems. If white people have a problem in their lives, they are FORCED to look at themselves to solve it because there is nobody else to blame. And that is why white people live in the nice neighborhoods more often.

On a couple occasions, I called the number posted on the signs to tell them they could find their signs sitting next to the polls. Gentrification? Well, some of the whites who could not really afford the redlining that was going on, have finally awoken.

The first ridiculous statement was that Milwaukee has some of the highest priced real estate in the US. Nonsense. A parcel of land on Central Park West in NYC leaves those fancy $3 million dollar mansions in the Washington Highlads in the dust, never mind those converted warehouses along the Milwaukee River which I know has Section 8 units along with the high priced condos. Second is where he points to the Washington Highlands and tells us that this is where white Milwaukeans live while blacks are relegated to those seedy bungalows and duplexes. I guess if you live over in the UK you might get fooled into believing that. He neglected to mention that there are black homeowners in the Highlands too who are lucky enough to afford it. The real laugher was the statement that whites have limitless opportunities because of the color of their skin. Not in Milwaukee, they don't. Not in the Rust Belt where the gutting of our manufacturing industry has left everyone struggling.

remraf44 : The white guy didn’t understand the contextual meaning of “privilege.”
      It can mean three things:
      1) Wealth
      2) Privacy (ex. evidence or corporate files)
      3) *Comparative advantage*
It is the third context, and not the first, in which we are using the term.
A poor white man and a similarly-situated poor black man will experience the world differently due to the white man’s skin color. In many respects, one is better-off being poor and white than middle-class (or even upper-middle-class) and black, as was demonstrated by the citation of lending data in the video.
Hence, we can stay that the white msn is “privileged” by comparison. He is less likely to be harassed by police, even in cases in which he might be breaking the law.
He is more likely to be treated first as a customer in an expensive store, rather than as a potential shoplifter.
He will still be shown a wider spectrum of apartments when shopping for an apartment, thus being given more choices.
He is far more likely to be given the benefit of the doubt by banks in rush analysis, even if an otherwise similarly-situated black man our-earns him.
Employers are more liberal with whites who lack college education or significant experience, meaning an otherwise similarly-situated black man is far more likely to be rejected for jobs due to his lack of experience or education.
Stated “preferred qualifications” - whose absence are not necessarily disqualifying - become “REQUIRED qualifications” when blacks are applying, making the absence of those qualifications disqualifying.
If you’re white, “We will train you.” If you’re black, “I’m sorry but you need ‘XYZ certification’.”
White privilege isn’t the absence of barriers to success. White privilege is knowing that your skin color isn’t going to be one of those barriers.
White privilege is knowing that you can be successful despite your ignorance to these distinctions - as is the white man in the video who mentions Barack Obama and “the race card.”
White privilege is knowing that you don’t even have to think about race or racial disparities, because failure to do so doesn’t result in any penalties.

The U.K. does have race problems as well, or as one commentor called it, "a Muslim problem." In reality it's neither. It's a cultural problem. The "cult" in the cultural problem is from the left. Radical racist renegades on the left do everything they can to cause racial problems so they can say, "See?!!, We TOLD you there was a race problem!!!" Then if you question it they scream " RACIST!" That is exactly what this program is. What it is in fact revealing is cultural differences that cause some people to prosper and others to flounder. Those are the issues we should address.

There is no wow involved. You have to understand most white people have zero idea what to do about any of this. I'm white and I am a hiring manager for a retail store.
I make sure to pull "black sounding names" first from my candidates list, as I heard nornally they are 3x less likely to be chosen. I vote for equality, I stand for equality and I treat others equally. This is what I believe I can do best to help in oppression, since my work takes up a majority of my time, it's where I can make the most impact. But, I ask my BLM friends (they're mostly all white, except a few, oddly enough) what more I can do, they get legit mad at me! Like, "Check your white privilege and read a book". I explain how I think I'm doing my best and it's never good enough. They call me a "fragile white person".
I feel confused. Like, I can't force mortgage lenders to give loans to specific people, I would if I worked in that industry! So, what do you all suggest? I have a busy life, like we all do, I work a ton so time is limited. Am I already "doing enough"?
I won't go to rallies/protests, I'm to afraid they'll turn violent now, they always seem to these days. I've been in jail before, sure as hell not risking that again!
So, this is why people ignore it. They feel overwhelmed in what they're being asked or what is expected. It feels sometimes like BLM supporters or those enthused in that general subject think the rest of us sit around doing nothing and just treat POC like crap. None of that is true based on any white person I know. It's odd that not a single person will give me a straight answer, just call me names.

      @theannas283 4 ปีที่แล้ว +31

As a white person, you are either ignorant or racist. What are we supposed to do? Nothing pleases the crazy on "either side". Trying our best to care about people and yet I still hear stories, everyday, of racial injustice and it breaks my heart! Then I feel attacked because somehow I'm not doing enough. I'm privileged. I'm the majority. I'm the dominant culture. Don't tell me I'm privileged because of my race! You dont know what the heck I've been through. I haven't gotten privileges thrown my way. I had to fight for what I have. I had to plan, oversee, and do my own school. I didn't have the counsilers or teachers really. I was homeschooled by a lazy mom! I wasn't allowed to drive or have a phone or a boyfriend or a life because my mom was too conservative. None of those difficulties were taken away because I'm white! I'm sorry that anyone is being abused or mistreated, but don't blame everyone who looks white for people being racist. Black people's lives do matter...but you shouldn't get so wrapped up in that that you start degrading people who are trying to help.

My father was the son of a penniless European emigrant. My mother was the daughter of a sharecropper. Both of my parents attended college classes but neither of them earned a college degree. Their economic status when I was born (1944) would have been described as “working poor”.
When my siblings and I were little, our parents did what many working poor (regardless of color) did in the United States when we were children - they were very careful about expenditures and each of them worked two jobs in an effort to improve the family’s socio-economic status. They never “ate out”. Dad did all of the maintenance work on his car (a ‘36 Ford) and some of the repair work. Mom wore no jewelry. Mom cut Dad’s hair and Mom used home permanents (sometimes with the help of her mother or Dad’s mother). Mom made most of our clothes - most of the rest came from second-hand stores.
You can argue, if you wish, about whether our parents efforts to be “respectable” were the result of their worldview or whether their worldview was influenced by their desire to be considered respectable but our parents (and many other working poor regardless of color in the United States when we were children) kept “good clothes” that they seldom or never used except to attend worship services. They attended services every week and put a tithe (10%) of their increase in the offering plate.
In the twenty-first century, there are still working poor (of every color) in the United States who think the way our parents did and who work the way our parents did in an attempt to improve their status in society but I think there were very few people (of any color) in the United States in the’40s and ’50s who tried to appear “poor” or “homeless” and who took pride in their poverty.
Maybe it would not be accurate to refer to indigent people in the United States in the twenty-first century as “proud” of their poverty but I believe the reports I’ve heard about places in the big cities where some people take pride in their ignorance and who discriminate against any indigent person who tries to get an education or even get a job. Their “pride” (if you want to call it that) is pride in their victimhood.
Whether that tendency is greater among people whose ancestors were from Africa or among people whose ancestors were from Europe I have no way of ascertaining but those attitudes will continue to keep more people in poverty than lack of opportunities.

Chloe Delaney And your comment highlights one of the main problems of not only white America, but the average American in general. If you didn't learn it in public school, your news station of choice, or from your parents, you're oblivious to it.Try Googling the term "COINTELPRO" a name for the program intelligence agencies like the FBI used to spy (illegally) on American citizens, particularly minority groups and their leaders like (MLK and Malcolm X). Under the umbrella of this program they also recruited agents from within these groups and sent in disrupters to sabotage, and cause violence to destroy them from the inside. That's just one example of how the white establishment has made efforts to sabotage minority progress. This is American history (and present).

Im a white man. I was raised by a black family in the ghetto of our city. I was in the car with my adopted mother and my 12 year old sister and 19 year old brother (who were black because im adopted) and we ended up getting pulled over. The officers pulled ALL of us out of the car and lined us up on the sidewalk and searched everybody... accept me.. even my 12 year old black sister. I was a white 14 year old kid at the time and i wasnt searched, touched, or barley even spoken to. I am still disgusted at the amount of racism in this country. And with me growing up and seeing the things that black people have to deal with EVERY day will forever be in my mind and i stand with every black, mexican, asian, green, or yellow person in this world. I now own a business and i have 237 employees and 188 of them are black or mexican people that lived and grew up in the ghetto that thought they had no future. I am doing my best to hell each and every one of them. I helped nearly 100 of my black or mexican employees buy their first car, and/or rent their first apartment/house. I even have black or mexican employees with kids that I hired as well. The racism MUST come to an end. When given the opportunity, blacks and mexicans are the hardest workers in my facility.

Does America have a race problem? Yes. And a religious problem. And a political problem. I live in the suburbs. The first time I saw a Black person, I was 15. The first time I met a Jewish person, I was 17. I know people, who won't talk to Republicans, and Republicans, who won't talk to Democrats. My mother always told me. "Don't ever speak about politics, or religion. You don't know who your are addressing. I'm over 65 now. I've learned a lot. Tolerance. How to listen, and to speak my mind. It's refreshing, to find you have more in common, with most people, then differences. Try it. Break down those walls. You'll find good neighbors hiding behind them.

I'm 28. I grew up in a mixed middle class suburb. Many of my closest friends were black. I never even thought to look at their skin color. They were good people and that's all that mattered to me. I never had to "learn tolerance" as you phrase it. And neither did my parents, who are about the same age as you. I've never seen this racism he describes. Blacks have no issues buying homes in my neighborhood, nor anything else this man claims. In fact many black families have lived here since the late 60's, when the neighborhood was built. I'm glad you did learn tolerance, but I grew up with it. I don't need to be taught it. White Americans aren't inherently privileged or racist. This whole video is pure bullshit.
