I can not wait either. I am going to try and find some of the white sweet potatoes to grow along with the regular and the purple with white flesh. Great vegetable.
Awesome harvest.very healthy looking sweet potatoes.I harvester my sweet potato yesterday.it was good but not like yours.we had no rain this year.good growing.enjoy.
They would root everywhere if I let them. I keep lifting up the vines and tossing them back on top of themselves to try and control the spreading. Eventually I lose and the vines go everywhere.
Here ,we don't use the tubers to start new plants. We simply coil up a length of the vines and bury it in the ground and boommmmm! We have new vines growing!
are those korean/japanese sweet potato? it is tasty but our 2nd favorite and i'll grow some of those next year. Most asian markets have them all year round for up to $1/lb, even the unorganic one will also sprout.
I bought a bag of 3 organic purple sweet potatoes. Only by scratching could I tell if they were white flesh or purple. 2 were well shaped, 1 was skinny. I used that one to grow slips to plant. I want to try some more kinds next year so I will be checking out some of the Asian grocery stores around NE Atlanta next February.
@@djrramsey The other asian variety you could find there is the one with White Skin but the flesh is slightly purple w/ marbling white, but after cooking all the flesh will turn to deep purple color. This is our number 1 favorite. It is the Okinawan Purple Sweet Potato, also called Hawaiian purple sweet potato. Mostly selling at asian market are shipped from Hawaii so they are irradiated or treated so they are very hard to sprout to get planting. I tried those before but was unsuccess. I couldn't find organic anywhere locally. But you should try it sometime you could get lucky getting the one that missed. At Sprout grocery, they have the Molokai Purple Sweet potato, purple skin purple flesh, unorganic but no problem with sprouting, in case if you want to try it as well.
@@AwesomeK285 Thank you. Great info. I am really going to try and test a bunch of the different sweet potatoes. The ones we picked a month ago we are starting to eat. I like the texture and taste of the white flesh ones more than the normal orange. Happily this year they are both really good.
I think those are Murasaki. Okinawan sweet potatoes. Purple skin with a faintly lime green flesh. More noticable in the middle than the edges. Once you grow them, you won't want anything else! They are delicious! Not too sweet. And flavorful. Creamy texture.
I had 2 slips of the purple flesh ones. Both died out pretty quickly. I will be trying again with them next year. To me they have sort of a cinnamon taste to them. Really different. I was hoping I would get some. Did not know they had died until doing the harvest since the area also had regular sweet potatoes.
@@djrramsey yes you should, after harvesting take the leaf stir fry in a simply way is with lots of garlic, season w/ salt and sugar and (optional mushroom seasoning fish sauce or soy sauce, really yummy)
Jamaica should be great for sweet potatoes. Takes at least 110-120 days to get the potatoes to fill out. If they are skinny potatoes, for me that is not long enough in the ground or not enough water/fertilizer. If the potatoes seem to have all kinds of roots and not much actual potato, then that is lack of water. I had that problem in the some of the container last year. Virtually no potatoes but a whole container of hairy roots. They spent their energy trying to find water.
I am in Lawrenceville, GA. I start slips inside to get a head start. Slips get planted usually in early mid June. Soil has to really warm up or the slips rot. I harvest in October before the first frost or serious cold spell. So they are in the ground 4-5 months. If they do not get plenty of water, that has to drain well, then I get a lot of small roots. Plants spend more time trying to find water that they spend making sweet potatoes.
GM Mr. DAVE, Love Your Video where did you get your sweet potatoes from plz. I'm 1st time growing potatoes want some these potatoes. Can you help me out?
I bought the sweet potatoes at the grocery store. Sprouts, Fresh Market and Whole Foods usually have them. Get organic if you can, they tend to sprout much faster. Good luck!
I stick my fingers in the soil. If dry I water . We had couple of months of severe drought. I was watering almost every day. Stll was not enough water for some of the containers. The ground sweet potatoes were usually once a week .
@@sherlyinmadrid I try to always plant both ways. Depending on the rainfall one way will do better than the other. Just do not know in the beginning which way. If there is really a lot of rain then the containers do better. If there is little rain then the ground hold it in better that the containers.
Planting needs warm soil. For me that is after the squash and beams have been planted. Here in NE Georgia late May or early June. About the same time that I can put out eggplant.
Hello. That's the right sweet potatoes. Congratulations..
Hey Johnny, hand me the sweet potatoes lawnmower. Lol
Yummy looking ! Great harvest for just those few plants!
It's always a great harvest when you have a cheerleader on the sideline. 🙂Great harvest! Beautiful tatars!🙂

This is a great harvest for 4sqft. 😊 Thank you for sharing.
Great harvest! Did they not root throughout your yard from the vines that crawled everywhere? I would think they would have.

A fantastic harvest. I'm going to try and grow them next year.
What make you happy? sweet potatos!!
wow i loved this video.
You can eat sweet potato leaves. Steam them as they can be a slight bit bitter when eaten raw. Double harvest!
Very nice!!!! Mine went crazy like that

So do you bury the leaf and everything?
Wow beautiful potatoes
Great harvest of sweet potatoes...

Does a sweet potato grow just from the root or will it grow from the vine
If the vine touches the ground it will root and make more sweet potatoes.

How many months did you leave them in the soil? I've read 6-10 months and I left my for 6 months in GA and they were overgrown.

Wow, that was a lot potatoes. 😁
23 1/2 pounds. And they were nicely shaped. These are so expensive in the grocery stores around here. If you can find them.
