Gordon is one of my favorite characters in the franchise, and this custom Gordon looks perfect, in my opinion. I especially like the addition of the nameplate. It seems like something he would have.
I actually really like how Sodor is populated by one-offs, hybrids, and outliers. To me it really gives the island this "rag tag bunch of misfits" vibe. But I love this alternate rebuild headcanon you've thought up to explain this model's looks. I'm never not thinking about Gordon's siblings, so the idea of him actually getting to meet some of his younger brothers and sisters that he wouldn't have in canon really warms my heart.
The fat hatt has been shown to be a very emotional person at times so it's most likely he bought trains that were intended for scrap to keep them alive
Honestly I think it's a headcannon that also gives so much more impact to Gordon's story where he learns diesel power is taking over and his relatives have been scrapped, he got to meet his new sibblings for a brief few years during his rebuild only to learn another few years after that was the last time he'd ever see any of them besides Flying Scotsman.
I think Gordon might've been intended to be an A1 from the start, but since there was no A1/A3 model when Awdry built it, he had to do it with the triang princess, which is hard to convert into a 100% accurate Gresley pacific, specially with the different running plate. So he had to compromise and create the A0 backstory.
Mate youve got a pretty dam good point there mate ,but I have no idea why Awdry didn't just have an A1/A3 photo for the illastraitors to use for gordon, so that why can gordon look like an Actual A1/A3 and when a A1/A3 model would've come out awdry coudlve used that model for gordon with swapping the tender to be accurate to the illastatiouns so yeah and problem solved but hey thats just my opinion
Fun fact, uhh, weirdly enough, Gordon's sloped running board (to some degree) is accurate, since there was an engine, GNR No.461, the Prototype of the LNER/GNR O2's which had the same unique characteristic of a sloped front running board, so, it could be said that the sloped front running board is a characteristic of Gresley prototypes
I don't usually rewatch videos that have been reposted. I tend to only go back and watch a few specific ones I've enjoyed. I'm making an exception in your case, watching most of them as you post them. Post the Toby one next, I want to watch it.
Your Gordon moddel is amazing! This video is interessting. Your Gordon back story is great. If you make a series I think it would be amazing because you understand these chrarictors so well and your back storys for these chrarictors are so interessting. Great video! Hope you have a great day!
Now here is my feelings…Henry is the prototype and Gordon is the first A1/3 built after Henry. Now I have created an entire AU combining the books, Seasons 1-4 of the model series, and my own personal touches. Many people may not like it as I had to add a few of my patriotic details (I’m American so I wanted to mix in the USA somewhere) but with explanation it works and besides in an AU you should enjoy the material.
I wanted to ask Tug, you mentioned the LMS Fowler looked a but small & dinky behind an A3 body. Someone told me there where bigger fowler tenders used that would look good proportionally wise behind a A3 body.
I like your content and videos, your videos make me happy and your edit is very good, keep going and don't give up just like your favourite character, Edward 😉
I’m not sure if you still take suggestions on which train is next, but I’d like to see your take on Lady or Diesel 10. Lady because if this shows anything I’d like to see your headcannon on how you would fit her in the Thomas lore without magic, and Diesel 10 because of the stupid crane
Unlucky tug I have a suggestion since I loved this video, can you old shape Henry? I feel like that could be interesting since it’ll be a cool design. ❤
I remember once, I was with my aunts and uncles, and we were all chatting, and then all of a sudden this video starts and it's just "HAAAAARGGGHHHH!" and I genuinely went "AAAHH!"
Hey Nic, I think I figured it out. Awdry tried to justify Gordon’s design flaws because they were also present on his model of Gordon, his Gordon model was a weird Stanier/Gresley hybrid, he converted a Stanier engine into an A3 for his Gordon model, and I think the models are what should be taken seriously when it comes to visual aspects. Especially the 2 cylinder aspect, he used a 2 cylinder model for Gordon, so he took the lore of the model and put it into the character.
Well, you've already done a Tugs Trains video on Duck and Oliver. I think a Tugs Trains video on both Henry and Toby would be excellent. It really would.
You can try old shape Henry use a A1 with a lot of modifications including a sloped footplate and different tender use the same modified running board use a different body maybe make a C1 body longer and take away the side things on the smoke box on the side.
Hello @ The unlucky Tug I have a question or idea for a video. What’s the Rev Awdry legacy? Since many great authors are being questioned today. Was he a cantankerous person? unpleasant. Or generally a moral man with a passion for railways. Was he as inventive as say Tolkien? As they both go to such detail in their worlds. What would he think of his creation today being a huge commercial enterprise? Is it a good example of life in the past. Being idyllic, nostalgia, or just a rose tinted view? I think although maybe a controversial few questions. It could make a great video as I don’t think many people have produced one like that. As you always put much thought in your videos. Brilliant model! Keep well.
@@Xalerdane well it’s just interesting to hear people’s opinions because no one really asks. No one has really given an in-depth video of his life and maybe challenges with his creation.
I know this is a old video but have gou though of making a Prototype Henry or old shape henry, a LNER A1 mixed with C1 (that's right? I can't remember if it was C1 or V1 or a different engine), i think some people make a Old shape henry, i don't know if they are realistic or aim for a more prop accurate design, but it would be cool
1:14 literally, why would they rebuild Gordon into a 2 cylinder locomotive? Like, is there ANY upside to this? I mean, they're sending Gordon to crewe, just to REMOVE his third cylinder which evenly distributes the pressure between the 2 main cylinders, making him run more smoothly. Who in the right mind would go to the trouble of removing this key feature of the A1?😂
Okay, after actually reading the page, I noticed that his entire chassis was replaced because Gresley's "conjugated" valve gear was causing trouble? Like, what??? Didn't Gresley's locomotives just use regular walshaerts gear? ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR VALVE GEAR TYPES IN ALL OF BRITAIN
Pardon me, Nic. I just wanted to ask you if you're sure deleting this channel if your original channel comes back is a good idea? Since your original channel got taken down because it was involved with your other two channels got strikes by Mattel, you may be risking your channel again.
Can you imagine, how hard it would be, to make some weird, busted A0 with a tiny firebox? It would be impissible if he didn't fully 3D model this whole thing and 3D-print it.

Can't get over how beautiful your models are.
Gordon in primer looks like he's in that game on the Thomas DVDs where you had to match the engine to their right color
Gordon model looks like a classic gold model
Such a beautiful looking model of a realistic take on Gordon.
But what about.........HENRY BEFORE THE FLYING KIPPER CRASH
You are Right🙂
not gonna lie I think that would be pretty hard to do
You mean his old shape. I think, It would be impossible to make a realistic depiction of some weird, busted A0 with a tiny firebox.
@@LetsJustinThe amount of blending between engine designs would be weird. And to be fair, he’d really just be a 3d print.

Ya know, Gordon could use some smoke-detectors, just to add a little more British charm to him.
I like it, but it’s a little pointless. At least with this original A3 shape
4:36 Gordon you're gonna explode without water
Whoosh! The shootingstar is coming through!

The bright side is that Hornby has a new tender coupling system that is used in their P2’s. Hopefully they retool their other models with it soon.

With Gordons name plates you can use the seven vally railway number 600 called Gordon

That was the name of a race horse. A lot of the Gresley A1s and A3s were named after those.
